Do you guys have any regrets about your collecting days gone by? (I noticed there was a thread about real life regrets a couple weeks ago, but this one is just for gaming). I have had this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach for the last few weeks, and just felt like getting rid of it.

I have never been a "real" collector of vintage games and the such (until I found Digital Press, grrrrrr :) ). However when I would get a new system or game, I would ALWAYS keep the box, manuals, baggies, cardboard inserts, receipts, etc. Everything that I have purchased since the SEGA Genesis (1st release) is in perfect condition, totally complete, and without flaw.

A couple years ago while I was in college I was quite into eBay. A good way to pay some bills, get beer and cig money, etc. Anyways, I noticed that complete SNES games were going for a pretty good amount of money. So on my next trip home, I picked up a box of SNES games to bring back to school to auction off on eBay. I beleive I auctioned about 10 of the more expensive games in my collection. I definitely recall the following:

- Legend of Zelda : Link to the past
- Super Punch Out
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Metroid (and official Nintendo strategy guide)
- Secret of Mana
- Super Mario All Stars
- Probably about 4 or 5 more (cant remember the names tho)

Of course back then I made a fair amount of money, but judging by what some of those games bring in complete mint condition these days makes me sick. If I had it to do over, I would have definitely left those games at home! Anyways, does anyone else have any regrets about some decisions they have made with their collections?

selling NES Wacky Races and Rocketeer years ago. Wacky Races is an R4 that I haven't seen since and Rocketeer was a fun game I just gave away by accident.

I also passed on buying a 2nd model SMS system and I haven't seen one of that since either

Well.....it's kind of stupid how I've had various systems and let them go in order to pick up a new system....and then wanted the other systems again. Acquiring in circles. Since joining DP I've since seen the costly errors of my ways and no longer do that.

For instance, I once had a Dreamcast system with a very large library of all-new games, none used. Along came Sony with their new PS2. I dumped my DC and library in exchange for the PS2. Last week I came across a Dreamcast with a brand new drive and ports installed. I bought it and 24 games. Trust me when I say that this one is mine for the long haul. I'm playing Sega Marine Fishing as I type this.

I missed the Dreamcast much more than I realized.

You live....you learn.

Hmm...never following up on a bunch of auctions I'd PAID for under my old account...or rather, not having them sent the right place the first time LOL

Oh man...had a Game.com with the internet pack and a bunch of games for $40, had a sealed Super CV IV. Oh well. I'll get this stuff eventually.

My real regret is that I'd had a fair amount of money in a CD that I'd worked since roughly 1998 to 2000 for went towards...those games, a lot of which I never got. Would've started a good x68K, Super Famicom, or even PC-Engine collection in 1998 (well, maybe not that last one :P)

Well lets see. Ummmmmmm.. selling of alot of R5+ nes games like kickle cubicle to gamestop when I was broke. Not picking up a minty fresh copy of tactics orge: let us cling together I spotted last week at eb. Or most importent, not taking care of my games when I was younger. Ohh the pain in knowing how much some of those games would cost and the total waste of time re-tracing them down again. :(

back in '96-'97 i'd always tag along with my friend when he shopped for NES games. i was always looking for a couple good snes games, but i sure wasn't "collecting" yet. he got so much great stuff back then for super-cheap.

i remember him not knowing the rarities at all and making judgement calls on whether or not to pick up a game called "chiller" and another time not being sure if he should buy "color a dinosaur". (he bought both thankfully). but if i had been collecting back then i'd really be somewhere now.

I don't really have regrets, although I sure wish I would have kept the good old Consumer Distributing catalogs of the mid-to-late 80s...

I remember at WAL MART, there were at least 50 copies of the original NES Final Fantasy for $9.99......

Also, how much does that COLOR A DINOSAUR go for? I saw that probably 7 years ago for $2 and didn't buy it...

Probably not...I suggest you get back in the car and go get them. Every time I think that way, the games always dissappear. ;)

Umm lets see...

Putting my buddy's Neo Geo on ebay for him when he was broke instead of
forking out the cash myself, but the games he owned for it were really shit
titles so it was easy to turn down.

Selling off most of my Colecovision collection in 2000 and then just buying
it all back off ebay a year or two later.

Passing up so much cheap NES goodies the last 5 years because it seemed
so abundant and now its looking dry and more expensive at the thrifts.

Selling my C=64 for peanuts back in 1991 or so. I had many cool games and
rpgs all boxed and mint and the amount of money I got for all of it really
amounted to nothing.

Being stupid as a kid, and selling ym SNES collection with the best game ever (see member title) to Funcoland (now Gamestop). I have most of my old games back, but I still regret ever losing them in the first place.

Once at an arcade auction I passed up the chance to buy a woring, sit-down version of Turbo Out Run. I also passed up the chance to buy a MACH 3 sit-down game at the Kalamazoo warehouse, but I didn't have an easy way to get it home. The guy only wanted 100 for it!

I sold complete NM copies of the following

Lunar: SS for Sega CD
Lunar: EB for Sega CD
Shining Force III

I also never bought Suikoden II when it first came out, even though I had already played through and loved the first one at that point.

Also wich I never sold my Nomad or 32x.
And one last thing, had the chance to get a complete copy of Guardian Heroes off of a friend, but didn't.

Not buying the mint in box used twice top loader with about 3 games, a boxed snes with about 20 complete games from a freind back in 8th grade. I havent talked to him since and he doesn't live there anymore. I even had a dream about getting the stuff once a few months ago but then I woke up and cried. :(

This one is easy. Two come to mind:

1) Selling a mint Magical Drop 3 Neo home cart for $240 shipped. (about 3 years ago).

2) Looking at a SHRINKWRAPPED $49.99 Radiant Silvergun collect dust on the store shelf of a local game shop back when I was in college. Seriously, it sat there for at least 3 to 4 months (next to a sealed D&D Collection at the same price). Apparently I was waiting until it fell in value. Whoops.

Selling off a good number of SNES games in high school for about $5-20 each, including Secret Of Evermore, Mechwarrior 3050, Super Mario RPG, Demon's Crest, Actraiser, Super Star Wars, and Killer Instinct. I own all of those games now, but I wish I hadn't sold them in the first place. I sure must have gotten more enjoyment out of these games than whatever I bought with the money, because I can't even remember what I spent it on.

The only ones I sold that I don't intend to buy again are AD&D: Eye Of The Beholder and Drakken, which I never really liked in the first place.
