View Full Version : Will future GBA games use both screens on a DS?

Anyone know if there are any upcoming GBA releases that will use both screens on the DS? Is it even technically possible for a GBA cart to do that? It'd seem like a good idea if they could since it'd give DS owners an incentive to still buy GBA games and extend the life of the system. Kind of like how Nintendo made special "enhanced" GB games for the Super Game Boy.

I think it's "Technically" possible as the DS slot and the GBA slot are connected. So basically, a GBA game creator has to just detect which system it is.

The question is whether they'll decide to do this. I foresee simple features. Like how GBA games can detect they're in a GameBoy Player and turn on new features. It could quite possibly be possible. And it would be pretty cool. But only if GBA game makers start using the cool plastic DS cases. Damn those cardboard boxes.

I've got a feeling that the GBA slot may be used for more than GBA games. Perhaps some sort of cartridge that can boost the wifi capabilities of the DS could be used there.

Without being very intimate with the system, I'm still inclined to say no. Booting a GBA game probably initiates some legacy hardware mode, kind of like how the Gameboy Advance itself accesses a secondary CPU to play Gameboy Color and Original titles.

Well, we don't know the hardware. But a poster at AtariAge has mentioned the slots are connected and all that implies. And I wouldn't pass it by Nintendo to implement it in there. We'll have to see.

I just don't see that happening. Because if a GBA game uses both screens, it becomes a DS game. Then again, those Super Game Boy enhanced games look a little better on a GBC or Super Game Boy. Perhaps there will be GBA enhanced games with something unessential but nice on the 2nd screen.

I can deffinately see them using both screens to display an image... Even if is just a picture of Mario with his Victory Pose, sort of like SGB borders but instead just a little picture on the bottom / top screen.

I doubt there will ever be any use of the Touch Screen in a GBA designed game.
