My saturn refuses to retain saves on the console or the memory card. I do know the internal battery needs replaced, but since the console stays plugged in, what would that have to do with the console retaining it, or the memory card retaining it? Even if the console's memory solely depends on the battery, the Interact Memory Card should retain the save, correct?

firstly Saturn's internal memory depends on the battery so if it goes down so is your save on the internal memory...

on the other hand if you are using direct save backup RAM cart yes it will retain the save indefinately... so long as you save to the cart not the internal memory :D

cheers

That's just it, the cart didn't retain it :(

Most games you have to TELL it to save to the cart, or it will not, and will default to system memory. Invest a solid $4 and put a battery in your Saturn.

yep
unfortunately you can't set global setting to save to the cart.
you will have to save to cart from each game...

get RC232(?) battery from local camera shop and replace

I've had one of those memory cards die on me in the past. It might possible of happened to you as well? All I remember is if gave me a message saying all the data was corrupted and I was never able to use the cart to save data ever again

PM me your address and I'll send you one for free - I've got a stack of them here.

I attempted to tell it to save it to the cart, but it never appeared there. It never said corrupted or anything like that, it was just gone. The only thing it would do is retain the save on the system as long as the console was on.

Don't care about shipping?

I think I can cover the 30 whatever cents it is to send a battery :)

What kind of battery is needed, where can I get one and how do I install it?

go to local supermarket/hardware store/camera shops and tell them you need RC232 battery.

cr2032, or in a pinch, a 2028. Not an rc232 tho, no such battery.

on the back of the Saturn, on your left you will see a 'door' - this is where the VCD card goes, open the door and you will find the battery holder.

you sort-of push the battery towards the front of the system then lift up.

take your new battery and installit the same way you took it out.

here is a picture, pay no attention to the system being dissasembled, or the wires hanging out the back (this is a picture of a region mod in progress)

you can see the battery in the lower left of the picture (next to the wires)
