its interesting but I'm not that impressed I've seen better efforts on portables for the 2600, DC, NES, SNES, PlayStation. Somebody has tried to make a portable out of almost every system and most of them look alot better than this one. Although I can imagine the N64 hardware was hard to condense into a smaller package.

That Ben Hack guy could probably school this guy on the design but not everyone is the evil genius Ben Hack is LOL

Not the best console to handheld job I have seen... The PSone guy's efforts are a lot better!

And the guy who did the DreamCast Portable made a better effort!

It just looks like he just replaced the shell and added some buttons to it - Which is in fact exactly what he has done!

I reckon Nintendo could quite easially make a Game Gear sized portable N64 these days...

This just makes me want to see Ben Heckendorn make a proper N64 portable. Oh, the possibilities ...

For the case of a portable N64, everyone should look into Nintendo iQues and start reverse engineering them. I don't think they emulate N64 games. I'm qute sure they contain an actual N64 compatible core.

Agreed.

While this is pretty nice, I know someone can do a better job.

The games are on flash carts that you download for a fee on the internet.

Interesting idea, very interesting and a valiant effort! Although I agree with a few of the others that the unit itself isn't super pretty, I think what you did was give those that thought a project like this to be toooo technical, some motivation to try it.

I love seeing inginuity at work! if you manage to shrink this puppy contact me, there could be a nice little market for portable "classics!"

It's a shame Nintendo didn't downsize the N64 like they did the SNES and NES. It would probably have made this thing smaller and less hot.

That being said, I have to give mad props to the guy who did this!

I am glad they didn't....given I'd then have to decide which one I would want to hook up and which one would stay in storage :)

I pulled out my SNES 2 and it is the same size as the original SNES MINUS that back section after the 'raised' cartridge port area. I decided I can allow 2 1/2 inches or whatever of additional depth...it is not that much, and worth it for S-Video.

Now the NES thing, it's a matter of whether or not...granted I modded my NES 2 for A/V outputs, whether I find vertical lines OR getting games to work after a million tries more annoying.

Then I'll make one using a piece of gum, an egg carton and a paper towel roll! God that McGuyver was something else!

While it may not be IMPRESSIVE physical wise...it works. AND..the average guy without access to a machine shop and a CNC machine can make it. :P.

While case mods are always cool, that one pushes the word "portable" ... it's portable like the old 25lb laptops were portable. Cool project, but I doubt yer gonna head out with that in your back pocket anytime soon.
