Every thanksgiving my extended family meet at my father's farm house, a house located in the middle of a field in north florida. While there, we do the usual family/ Thanksgiving stuff. My dad also enjoys deer hunting as do many of my relatives.
Well, it was raining Thursday evening so my dad went into his closet to get hats for everyone. I wasn't going hunting, but my cousin walked out of the bedroom with something VERY awesome on his head...
... my NINTENDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 1990 hat that I won when I was 11 years old!! :)
The badge is totally intact and the hat is in perfect shape. I nearly flipped out. I didn't win one of the cartridges, but I won this hat somehow and have been looking for it for 15 years. Turn out my dad snarfed it for his hunting closet years ago! LOL So happy to have found it. I don't collect NES, but this is probably the oldest gaming memento I have kept around. I kind of want a NWC cart to go with it though! :)
Just had to share the story with you guys - thought you might appreciate it. Won it at the Tampa tour stop, BTW. Got a free game boy for placing fifth (still have the Game Boy).
... and on the way home on Friday, I scored a CIB *MINT!!* Fire N Ice for NES for $10. That too. :P

That reminds me of when I when to the nationals for the blockbuster video game championships and got a bunch of nintendo play it loud hats and other random stuffs, I still have a couple of the hats but my grandpa ended up with one. It was very odd to see a 70 year old man wearing a hat with "play it loud" written over the front in neon green.

I won that same exact hat and have not seen it since. :(
Looked all over my house and have no idea where it could have gone. Well, maybe since you found you'rs, I'm next for a little luck.

John, I had no idea you were the gaming giant that you are. Were you in The Wizard too? Do you still have your Power Glove? :P
Very nice find slick. Better than the turkey?

Hehe.
No, I wasn't in the Wizard, but I sure felt like it at the time. I went to the show with a friend of mine and during the third round, when my little buzzer went off and my best friend's didn't, he wound up crying with his dad, and I wound up on the stage.
The wierdest thing about my NWC story is this.
One of the 4 or 5 kids who placed above me was a kid named Jordan. He did well enough to win a power pad along with the gameboy and other stuff. About 4 years after the NWC, I went on a Hawaiian cruise with my family. I kid you not - I walk into the paltry "arcade" on the ship and that same kid Jordan was there! I spent the whole cruise going at it with him on an old Pole Position stand up cab they had on the boat.
It was probably one of the most random crossing-of-paths I've ever experienced. I didn't know this kid and Hawaii is halfway across the earth.

I knew it was a Gameboy we won as Semi Finalists! Thanks for helping me clear that up. Ironically, I was also 11 when we hit the PowerFest. I won my hat/gameboy in Denver for what it's worth.
After the contest, I wore my hat to school proudly the next day. Some kids thought it was cool because it had N.W.C. on it and they thought it was somehow connected to N.W.A.
On another note, didn't that stage rock? I was at the bottom row of monitors; sure wish I could have played from the "Throne of Power". My brother was pretty peeved too since he bombed early and didn't make it to the semi round (he stinks at Tetris).
My hat, sadly, is also long gone (I suspect). I still have the program though, so who knows, it may still be around. Maybe it's time to search the attic when I head back home for Christmas... hum...

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed my crazy story.
Check back tomorrow and I'll post pics of the hat, after I have the chance to snag my camera from home.

I like the hat :-P May I get your permission to use the picture on an article I wrote about the NWC contest? Maybe you want to write in a brief story for me too?
Thanks.

Geddon_jt, that rocks! Thanks for the pic. I love seeing stuff like this. So, to understand this correctly, the folks from Nintendo gave you this hat with your Game Boy (it wasn't something you could buy at the NWC, right?)?
Oh yeah, nice score on the Fire and Ice. I've only seen one in the wild once (well, I used to see them at the game store when it was new, but that doesn't count! :-) and the guy awanted like 70 dollars or something for it.

TRM:
Yeah, go right ahead. Would be glad to write out my story for you - what sort of publication is your article for? PM me with the details, I might be able to send you better pic if you need it.
Rbudrick:
Hmm... let me think REALLY hard. I know I didn't pay for it. It was given to me at some stage in the competition, but I can't tell you when exactly. Now that I think about it, my brother got to the third (but not final) round and I don't remember him ever getting a hat, or seeing another hat around the house.
Based on this thread, it kind of seems like a lot of people around here haven't seen this hat before. I figured a lot of people probably had one, but I did a search and couldn't find any discussion or pics of it. The coolest part about it is how the logo matches the logo on the NWC carts. Wish I had one of those to go along with it!

The hat that I received (and I'm trying hard to remember) was a white hat with "N.W.C." in bold black letters on the front and I think it had a Nintendo logo on the back. Quite a bit different from the hat you have. I'm going to be even more determined to find mine over the holidays.

I take it your hat was like the onese these kids are wearing?

Oh man...now there's two kinds of NWC hats. Besides the NWC carts and the NWC pamphlet, what other NWC paraphernalia (sp?) is out there?
