A few things I'm curious about...

1. Any link play support? I notice there's no cable jack. Can it be done wirelessly? How about GBA Wireless Adapter games?

2. Button mapping: is it just A=A, B=B, and X and Y do nothing? Or do X and Y double as additional A and B buttons?

3. Do GBA games play in stereo over the built in twin speakers? I would assume so, but you never know. Heh.

1. No link play, no multiplayer, no wireless - single-player only on GBA games.

2. A=A, B=B, X and Y are not used. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you can adjust the control scheme. Shame though, because it's nowhere near as comfortable as the GBA B and A buttons. The layout is pretty far off.

3. Yes they do.

Aside from my minor complaint over the button layout, GBA games play wonderfully on the DS. I did a side by side with a few games, and the difference in color and brightness is @_@

It's neat too, as you can choose which screen you want to use. If you use the bottom screen, it feels more like an original GBA. If you choose the top screen, it feels more like an SP. Works great either way though.

Okay, that's kind of what I was expecting about the link play. And it's sort of disappointing about the button layout. But the improved screen and sound quality should make it plenty fine for my single-player needs.

The button layout isn't the worst thing in the world - it feels strange (or at least it did to me) when you first boot up a GBA game, but once you start playing, you adjust to it like you do any other controller. It's still a bit silly that you can't change the config to suit yourself, but it is nice to be able to play both GBA and DS games on the same system - and the quality of the GBA games is superb on the DS screens.

Yeah, that's for sure. I just tried out my GBA movie player to run a few NES games on the DS, and it absolutely blew the SP out of the water in terms of color quality and contrast. I was definitely not expecting it to look that stunning.

Yeah, it really caught me off guard too. I had to switch back and forth between my SP and my DS just to check several games to see just how different they were - and now that I have the DS, my wife has taken over the SP - so aside from the issue with the buttons, I really can't see myself using the SP too much in the future, unless it's for the rare Gamecube connection, or the even more rare GBA multiplayer session.

thats just too bad the buttons were mapped that way. id better prefer it if it were A = B and B = Y

and thats really stupid if you cant change it, i mean even the super gameboy had 2 settings
