Sorry for being so cryptic Perkar.
When can DS owners expect to be wowed when they hit wifi hot spots?

Any information that I have read regarding the greater wifi capabilities/network for the DS has come from the forums at www.n-sider.com & the forums over at WarpPipe.
I made a topic about this a while ago when the whole project was being hinted at by the staff at N-sider as well as the warppipe team. I guess that they started to hype it all on the net so EARLY in order to drive up sales of the DS. Apparently, and this has not been confirmed, but the Warp Pipe team will be officially working with Nintendo on the wifi network - that's speculation gathered from the forums of those two sites.
The whole thing has been given the cryptic name of "DemaSked." And the only other thing that I learned last week was that IT was delayed to 2005. The beans were originally promised to be spilled before the release of the DS. Who knows, but I think that they knew it would not be ready until '05 and simply started the net hype to drive up DS sales.
But the box and manual for the DS specifically say (oh and the website says it to) that "in the future" you'll be able to connect at WiFi hot spots to connect with an infinite amount of players.
Frankly, I'm just getting frustrated over this. This is the top reason why MANY people bought the DS, and the have not even unvailed it yet. If it takes more than one month into '05, then I'll be super pissed. That's like releaseding a new medium, like a DVD player without any DVDs.
on a side note, my little bro got a DS and I tested out the multiplayer games on Metroid Prime Hunters (demo) and Mario 64. LOTS of fun. This WiFi thing would be great, because I could continue to whip his ass even after I've left from visiting the fam for thanksgiving or whatever.

Thanks for the info. I'll refer to those sites for pertinent info as it unfolds. I'll also wait PATIENTLY for my DS internets. :hmm:

Just a quick note..
Nintendo has said it is up to the developers to make any WiFi enabled games.
As for Warp HYPE Pipe, I don't think thier work has anything to do with Tunneling the DS or taking the DS online.
For the information I've seen it looks to be more of a service to help identify people and possibly track thier information (stats, games, etc.) online.

Ahh, the Internets... LOL
Nintendo needs to release some browser stuff, and fast. Quick like a bunny now.

I've got a feeling they'll keep things under wraps until the Easter - a traditional time for releasing lots of games. As far as the analogy regarding the DVD player and DVDs goes, that's not really fair - the fact is you can still play new DS games and old GBA games on it until the Wi-fi thing takes off. Be patient, I think it'll all be worth the wait (I hope!) :)

Uh, these roll outs take forever to orchestrate. Nintendo never hurrys into anything, particularly IT stuff- look at GCN and it's network 'games.'
I wouldn't expect connectivity to Wifi hotspots until 2006. And I wouldn't expect it to be free. So you bustling no income high schools students (which I always feel comprise a disproportionate number of Nintendophiles) will need to find a way to pay for connectivity.

I don't mind being patient. The DS is an interesting system and provides a fine source of time wasting, however I feel its wireless connectivity will be its main thrust. DS WiFi just seems to be the excitement spreading around the forums. I just think a WiFi arrangement before the PSP rolls out would help make for a healthier portable gaming race.

Only idiots bought it thinking it was online ready, and that the service was available... Did anyone buy their Xboxs expecting to be on Live within Minutes???

That's a bit harsh there. I bought hoping that it would be unvailed soon thereafter. The fact that this was a big deal with the Cube is why I'm so interested to see what N does here.

I bought my xbox and was onlione within minutes... as for the DS, I bought it expecting that it could somehow (even not officially) get online within the next 2 weeks. I was also hoping that a way would be found to connect it to a wireless LAN.

yeah... But this year is probably the most ready a gamer could be for purchasing anything new and / or big. I'd say 95% of the DS purchasers where either on the show floor or downloading videos at their computers from... E3 2k4. and then probably 90% of them have been following it since then.
The DS got spread like crazy, and the only mention of wifi was how it would work (or better, how Nintendo would like it to work...), and when... "sometime in the near future". Nintendo never promised out of the box wifi internet support. In fact they even said no launch title would even support future wifi play. People can't complain because they didn't keep themselves informed on something they would end up paying 150+ for.

Well sure, you didn't get your Xbox at launch... or you probably think System Link is "Online" (Was Xbox Connect available for Halo on Launch??)
