I have yet to see any real pics of RE4 running on the PS2 hardware so Im wondering if it will be comparable to the Gamecube version when its released?

The PS2 is no where near as gaphically graceful as the 'Cube. Jaggies, bad antialiasing and flickering textures ahoy methinks...

yeah I can't see the ps2 version looking very good, what I can see..is if capcom ports over the version, it will have some issues, but if they build it from ground up it may turn out ok...but will they do that? no

Has it even been announced for the PS2?

Comparable, yes; as good, no. That's just the way it goes. I've yet to see a multiply platform game look better on PlayStation 2 than GameCube or XBox. Take Tales of Symphonia for instance. When ported to the PS2, its graphics got worse, the frame rate isn't as fast, and the loading got longer.

It's funny how Sony trumpeted how powerful the PS2 was going to be with its "Emotion Engine" and such. It can't do textures quite as well as the Dreamcast, and the Cube and X-Box have better (sometimes FAR better) graphics.
I'm not knocking the PS2... it has the most games, and therefore more of the BEST games. It's just funny how the hype machine worked.
Cheers

I wish you guys would stop assuming so much on a game that hasn't even been released, every single time a game is announced for PS2 we always have to hear the same exact thing. Prime example when Viewtiful Joe was announced for PS2..."No...it won't be as good as GameCube"...Well guess what? IT WAS GOOD! I'd like to see those who talked trash about PS2 VJ now.
As many of you complain about PS2's hardware. Why are some games running on PS2 currently? Silent Hill 4, Resident Evil Outbreak especially.
For a system that is "Outdated" in hardware by a mere year compared to Cube and Xbox. It somehow pulls a miracle out of it's ass.
I'm sorry, but I'm the kind of person who won't judge a game unless it's sitting at the store.

"No...it won't be as good as GameCube"...Well guess what? IT WAS GOOD!*
*Maybe not AS GOOD
Besides, you're talking about a port that is basically an updated version of the GC original...more time to develop for it.
If nothing else, the PS2 version might be able to take advantage of the larger disc format...if it's got prerendered movies. With the director leaving so soon, though, I don't think any more work will be done, artwise.
If it plays the same, people should be happy, right?

Well if you think about..the time gap between the release of Cube and PS2 verisons. Could well lead to an upgraded verison of RE4 as well

I've read a multitude of reviews from Gamespot and IGN where the Xbox and PS2 versions trumped the GC version graphically. No links, just go over and start reading ...

hehe, funny you say that.
I've had a beta on my hands for about a month, and played the preview version, and believe me, it ain't easy to make comparisons, but, it won't look the same.
Also, the emotion engine on the ps2 is #$$#ing awesome, it can handle particle effects in 3d with a very very high number of polygons, the problem is that it can't be used for everything at every moment. Also it is very very hard to program for it, so particles, dust, and all the tiny effects you rarely notice is what it can do best.

I don't get why all you SONY bashers out there think its not going to be as good?? Since when did PS2 have bad graphics? Come on, lets be realistic here folks. They are going to be workin on it for a year, I am sure it will be beautiful.

why don't YOU be realistic. sure its not gonna look like a NES game, but its not gonna look as good as the gamecube version either! SO WHAT!? deal with it, it will still be a good game, but OMG TEH GRAFICS ARENT AS GOOD NOOOO!!!! LOL

Ok, the Gamecube is so wonderful, thats why it is 3rd in sales behind ps2 and xbox.
As for Resident Evil 4 for PS2, I am sure it wil out-sell the Gamecube version, after all, Resident Evil started with the Playstation, and still has LOTS of fans, like myself. Go ahead, keep talkin :-P

and im supposed to give a shit that it wont sell as much, i could care less if the gamecube and PS2 copies sell a number of 5 copies total between them, what the hell does that have to do with graphics?? not a thing! that statement was irrelevant and proved nothing as to the graphic comparisons between the two.

Not being a basher of the Gamecube or PS2, for I own both systems, I just think they will both be just as good, especially knowing that they have a year to transfer the GC version to the PS2. It will look stunning, I am sure of it.

it probably won't look as good as the Gamecube one but who cares. I'll be getting it for gamecube though...yep

Yeah, I'm sure. I've read it the other way around as well. Certain types of games benefit from what each console has to offer.

I doubt the PS2 version will look as good as the GCN version for one simple reason, the GC hardware is more powerfull than the PS2's. The graphics might look very close to the GCN, but in the end because the Cube has a better processor and graphics chip that version will run smoother than it's ported brother.
Though the PS2 uses a bigger disk format so the PS2 version may have a 1-up on the GC one in terms of added content.

RE4 on PS2 will be close but not as pretty as the cube version. It will also sell more copies than the cube version.

No seriously, I don't think the PS2 can handle the graphics the gamecube can put out. It may look CLOSE but not perfect. I love good gameplay, but I'm also a graphics whore. I LOVE great realistic graphics and RE4 for gamecube is pretty damn sweet.

It's going to be a far bit behind the cube version. The game was SPECIFICALLY designed to take advantage of every inch of the cube's hardware, and it's going to be an absolutely amazing challenge to rework the entire game around the obviously inferior PS2 hardware.
It'll definitely still be a good game, but it's not gonna feel right a year later on a different system.

Funny you should mention Emotion Engine in this thread. I remember before the PS2 came out. An example of how Emotion Engine would change our gaming was something about ripping your shirt on a brick wall in RE, the rip would remain for the rest of the game.
As for the topic...Im going to have to say the following;
Yes. The PS2 version will definatly look better than the GC version. Without a doubt! Thats assuming you like jaggies though. ;)

I dont understand why Capcom wont port to Xbox as well. I am sure it would look alot better then the PS2 port will.

yes an Xbox port would make soooo much more sense at least as far as the graphics capabilities of each individual machine.
an Xbox version would look just as good with a possibility of even better lighting effects (spotlights etc) and could very easily include any "extras" that Capcom may be planning for the PS2 release.
I dont understand why all these game companies think it to be a necessaty to port games from the Xbox or Gamecube to the far less powerful PS2 just to sell a few more units.I could understand if it was a guaranteed million seller but that rarely happens.
take a look at Veiwtiful Joe the PS2 version didnt sell near as many units as Capcom thought it would and yes there is some slowdown issues and the graphics look much "darker" to me.
I just think that many a PS2 fan will be very dissapointed in the port of RE4 to the PS2.
I do see a PS3 "special edition" in the future though if it doesnt turn out on PS2 you know that Sony or even Capcom wont let this one go as a Gamecube only exclusive like originally planned even if it means hacking the game to death with incredibly long load times and diluted textures or even worse
