I used to always write it as XBox, but now I have defaulted to writing Xbox. I have seen a lot of people write it in different ways, and I'm just curious to see what is the most popular.

I used to write it xBox, but after a few flames, I righted my wrong & began writing it Xbox.

I think the correct writing is Xbox...

I will end all speculation on this and say "The clue is on the box"
FFS, it doesn't take a genius to take a glance at the box to see that it is referred to as "Xbox"
Take a look at the side where it lists all the relevant trademarks blah blah blah...
It will say something like "Microsoft, Xbox, Xbox Live, and the Xbox logo Etc... are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation..."
The only other acceptable way of writing it would be "XBOX" as that is how the Xbox logo appears.

Where is the vote for does it really matter ? I know you are just asking , but I have seen people get flamed over this and other trivial things. Depends on what mood I am in I guess. Sometimes its XBOX (because its so big anyways) and others its just Xbox.

You didn't include any of the hyphen variants.

Xbox, of course. That's the way it should be. Just as it's PlayStation (in one word, with a capital S) and GameCube (one word, capital C). On the other hand, it's Game Boy Advance (Game Boy was always spelled as two words).

I usually type it as XBox, because I'm a bit slow on letting up the shift key!

I used to type XBox because it just seemed right, but after I saw how Microsoft spelled it I corrected it. If Microsoft spells it Xbox there is no question about it - Xbox is the correct way to spell it. Not that I care if people "break the rules" :P

I'm not trying to start any flame wars or anything stupid like that, but I'm just curious about it. Think about it -- what other system in history can be written in so many different ways?
Dreamcast vs. DreamCast
Playstation vs. PlayStation vs. Play Station
It's just interesting to me to see who does it different ways. Quite frankly, I don't care beyond just wondering about it.
I'll go add another option for "hypened" varations.

goatdan I know you werent trying to start any flame wars. Its just I find it laughable that people will start flame wars over such a pathetic issue. I use both XBOX and Xbox equally so I really couldnt vote for one or the other. :/

Like I said, look at the console's packaging - You will see there in plain English that it's:
Xbox
DreamCast
PlayStation / PlayStation 2
PSone / PStwo
GameCube
Game Boy
Now if you wanted a proper debate, then why not question the PAL and Japanese way of presenting the name of the Genesis - Is it Mega Drive or Megadrive?
It has been used in both forms by Sega themselves, yet if you look on eBay.co.uk you will see that one way is a lot more popular than the other... Hence why a lot of people put both "Mega Drive" and "Megadrive" in their listing titles...

Doesn't the PStwo packaging just say PlayStation 2 on it? The only mention of "two" is in the bottom corner of the box.
Even the stand for it says on the packaging...
Vertical Stand for PlayStation 2 (SPCH-70000 Series) or something like that...
XboX.
Why? Because one day I got an e-mail from Bill Gates, threatening to lay the smackdown on me unless I did so.

XboX, not because it's right, not because I'm wrong, just because I like it that way.

Who actually gives a shit how you spell the console? O_O That really is sad when people feel the need to troll someone over the internet over something so inane. Anyways back on topic, I always have typed Xbox myself.

I agree with you on all of the other points except this one. Sega used it as "Dreamcast" on *most* of their releases. Their internal documents also spell it like that. :) Not saying you're wrong, just that you could debate that name too...
XboX is just a weird one, because even if you see it written as XBOX or Xbox somewhere, it just still seems like there is so many more fun ways to spell it!
