I know the latest Activision Anthology (PS2) shames the original PSX version, but a cool feature of the first is the ability to play your own CDs while playing rather than built-in music. That said, what 80s tunes go well w/ the classic Activision games? I got a few:

HERO- "Hero" by Bonnie Tyler
Plaque Attack- "Eat It" by Wierd Al
Fishing Derby- "Maneater" by Hall & Oates
Dolphin- "The Tide is High" by Blondie
Enduro, Grand Prix- an appropriate "driving" song

They don't necessarily have to "match", but some just fit well together. Any ideas?

What are you talking about? The PS2 doesn't have the Xbox's ability to store data on the hard drive, so you can't directly add your own soundtrack into the game. :hmm:

Of course, if you mean listening to your own 80s music while playing games, well that's nothing new. I even wrote a thread about that not too long ago.

I think he's refering to the PSX version, not the PS2 version...

I think he means that the games are loaded up into the PSX's RAM, so you can take the disc out, pop in your own cd, and listen to that while you play. You could do the same thing with Ridge Racer.

Yep.And you could do that with a couple other games too.I think RR,the original, was one of them. :D :hmm: @_@

I think you're ALL missing the "spirit of the thread". So let me try to get back to it.

How about "Danger Zone" while playing F14 Tomcat? or even River Raid!

Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur" for Enduro, definitely. Preferably an extended remix.

I'm sorry but the majority of the songs on this cd pretty much suck ass. They just bring back bad memories. :/ It's sort of like in 20 years if someone makes a gb/xbox/ps2 compilation and decides to put in the wonderful sounds of Shaggy - "It wasn't me" and the timeless music of Nsynch, Brittney, and J - Lo. LOL

For purely nostalgic purposes, Black Sabbath, early Metallica, Hellhammer, Venom, Exodus, early Slayer, and a scattering of the various hardcore of that era oddly seem to fit in with every 2600 game I've ever played :P

digitalpress & Phosphor Dot have the right idea...this has to do w/ the PSX Activision collection, not the PS2 version!

I thought I was clear in the original post...:/ I listed some ideas to help...
I'm thinking up a music CD of '80s tunes to play on the PSX version. I know I could just use ANOTHER CD player but I like the built-in music player feature.

C'mon folks- I know you've got some good ideas!

Well, I thought we'd have some fun w/ this topic, but I guess it's gone stale...everyone's too busy or just plain uninterested. All I got was a few confused responses...

Enduro, Grand Prix- an appropriate "driving" song

If you go back a little, "Radar Love" by Golden Earring; if you want 80s for sure, then how about "Driver's Seat" by Sniff 'n The Tears?

Low-Tech Solution: A separate stand-alone CD player, a Y-adapter, and timelife.com's 15-CD "Sounds of the 80s" set. Let's you hear both the CD music and the PS2 sounds at the same time and you have unlimited choices in music.

Barnstorming: Pink FLoyd - "Learning to Fly"
Boxing: Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger"
Enduro: The Cars - "Drive"
Freeway: Arethra Franklin - "Freeway of Love"
Frostbite: Metallica - "Trapped Under Ice"
H.E.R.O.: Tina Turner - "We Don't Need Another Hero"
Kaboom!: Kix - "Blow My Fuse"

OK, that's enough for now. :-D

Plaque Attack- "Eat It" by Wierd Al

I think the "Dentist" song from "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986) would be better for Plaque Attack. I'd probably use "Eat It" for Pressure Cooker. It's just too bad Metal Church didn't write "In Due Time" until 1991.

"I am trapped in a pressure cooker, when will I ever learn, while my world has reached the boiling point of no return."

Frostbite: Metallica - "Trapped Under Ice"

Or Slayer - "Crionics", if you're going that route...

YES!!! There we go! Keep it going! :D
I think "Pressure" by Billy Joel would be good for "Pressure Cooker".
I'm burning this CD today...here are the 80s songs I got:

"Danger Zone" Chopper Command, River Raid/2
"Electric Avenue" Enduro, Grand Prix
"Maneater" Fishing Derby, Dolphin
"Holding Out for a Hero" HERO
"Welcome to the Jungle" Pitfall
"Eat It" Plaque Attack
"Wild Wild West" Stampede
"Down Under" Seaquest

I hope to find "Major Tom" (artist?) for Starmaster. I don't play some games much (Barnstorming, Laser Blast, Sky Jinks, Dragster) so I didn't give them songs.

"Cars" by Gary Neuman for Enduro, Grand Prix, etc.

Personally, I see "Pressure" as a great song for Freeway, for some reason....

Well, unfortunately, I had trouble burning the soundtrack CD & killed no less than 5 CD-R discs! I never had any problems before doing this...rotten source CDs? Crummy CD-Rs? I'm using an hp-cd writer 9300 series, recording at 1x speed (to preserve sound quality)if anyone can help...

Maybe I'll just use the original CDs in my carousel. :/

BTW, I chose "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith/Run DMC) for Freeway!
