Hi,
whilst browsing earlier this week, I happened to come across a Commodore Max System for about the equivalent of 250 USD; I've found tech specs for this machine and I know that it had a Japan release only, but does anyone have any info about what games / how many were released for it, original price of system, etc...
Has anyone actually used one of these?

It's a really cut down computer, that I do know, it's been labeled a "Vic 10" which tells you everything you need to know.. I know it's a rare item in the US, being that it was never released here; but no one here would pay $250 US for one.. It just didn't have enough games that interest people. If you got one in the US it would have to be boxed, it would have to be mint, and it would have to have 10 pictures showing every corner of the machine along with the history and etc. to get anywhere near $250 on ebay.
Me I'd pay up to $50 for one just to put in my collection.

Ehh, $250?? I haven't followed the prices on this this one for a few months. But when I sold mine (NM with a VG box + two boxed games) I got 600 Euro for it (approx. $600) And the ones that were sold about the same time I sold mine, I never saw one go under $400.

The first one that got put up on eBay some time back (2 years or so) that I saw went for $4,700. Yes you read that right. It was complete at least! :P
Since then more have been found and sold, the price has lowered. Expect to pay $300-500 for a complete setup and around $100-150 for a loose one (with all connections etc).
All the games for it work perfectly okay with a regular C64 so you don't actually need it except for part of your collection (this is mine heh http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/photos28.htm ) or as a curiosity thing. Sadly I can't use it as it is RF output only and NTSC doesn't go through that very well to PAL TVs!
Games wise some of the games were released worldwide, a couple have slightly different versions, and some were exclusive to Japan only. Have a look at what I have so far http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/commodoremax.htm
A very funky little machine...!
