ok so i was just wondering, can anyone tell me what program the neo uses to write games, and if anyone has any experience with the program is it a rather easy or pretty hard program to deal with.

i had heard a while back it was possible to purchase a dev unit from SNK, and was just wondering if anyone has any info on how someone could make there own ghetto dev unit for fun.

just a question that had been bugging me, any info would be nice .

don't know personally, but I'd love to see specs on a homebrew dev system if you pull it off

Your best chance would be www.neo-geo.com.

NeoPong was a homebrew project, maybe you could contact their team?

The Neo Geo probably doesn't use anything that you can't replace with today's emulators and 68K + Z80 compilers/debuggers. Sure, there'd be a lot of work finding everything and making sure the emulation environment worked...not to mention trying to find somebody who can make some sort of devcart for the system...but using an original SNK system can't be easy, either.

On the other hand, some guy compiled some source code for an unreleased Asteroids clone (Apocalypse? From Psygnosis) without even knowing how to write SNES code...apparently he had a good compiler laying around. He'd just been given that code by one of the original programmers. I'd expect Nintendo's docs to be easier to follow though.
