So last week I finally decided to upgrade my game room and get myself a new gaming-only television. What I ended up getting had 16:9 widescreen, component video inputs, and stereo surround sound. I had to get some Gamecube component cables through ebay since they're no longer sold here (thanks Nintendo  ) and they finally arrived earlier today.
I get home, plug the cables in, fire up the tv, and...
Wow.
Just...wow.
The colors, the detail, the sound, the sharpness, the non-blurry text...sights and sounds I had never experienced before. It was like all my games were brand new again.
Let this be a lesson to you all...if you're going to be a serious gamer, make sure your tv was made sometime more recently than 1987. LOL

Now say thank you Kris (as I essentially badgered her into getting that model :P ). And lugged it up the 3 flights of stairs with her father. And set it all up. And connected it together. And finally showed her what she's been missing game wise picture quality and why I always insist on running RGB ;)

Its is a wonderful thing. I'm just starting to use a VGA monitor for all my current gen systems. It does wonders.

Not to bad a price for a non-HDTV 16:9.

Heh, I got a BETTER TV then you! :D
But I'll second the amazing part.
Games played on a large widescreen TV with component cables are nothing short of AMAZING.
ESPECILY if that game has support for widescren mode.
The first game I tried on my new TV last month was Star Ocean 3 and my jaw dropped in amazement.
Check out this site: hdtvarcade.com for a listing of what modes new games support.

Yup, the only thing better for gaming than a big tv is a bigger 7.1 dolby digital setup with big subs!!
Enjoy that TV QOF, everything should look better on it! I'm still trying to figure out a way to hook my Odyssey 300 to my 57" hi-def. I figure the paddle should be about 6 inches tall!! 8-)

Wow, I'm surprised how cheap it is. I was expecting some huge price tag. I ddin't know you could get a TV like that for that price. I think I'm going to be a lame me too AOLer and say, Me Too! Maybe after Christmas I'll treat myself. Thanks for the tip!

Which is pretty much why we went for it. Widescreen component enabled goodness for just over $400? Couldn't resist ;)

I just took a more 'in the future' look and got one that had HDTV support, as more and more programing is coming in that format.
But agreed, for that price it's not bad.
