"APPROXIMATELY 43,000 VIDEO GAME CARTRIDGES and/or DISKS TO BE SOLD IN LARGE WHOLESALE QUANTITIES"
Does anyone else see a load of Acclaim crap on eBay in the near future?

It's kind of sad to see it all going like that. They definitely weren't the best, but they had some franchises I really liked.
Anyone know if the Turok license has been picked up by the way?
It would be interesting to see what they end up with in those 43,000 copies of stuff. From what I've seen from other recently closed places, a lot of that is probably DOS-based games, which aren't useful or valuable, but are kinda cool.
I would love to see some of those development consoles though.
:( Goodbye Acclaim. You really sucked at the end, but you left us with some great memories.

Anyone know if the Turok license has been picked up by the way?
I read in the latest Game Informer that one of the European executive was trying to buy any of the licences that still had some worth (like Turok) and reform/make an offshoot of the company (I think it was going to be named Xclaim or something like that) but was blocked due to the bankruptcy proceedings.

The Turok license wasn't held by Acclaim anymore...so that won't be up for grabs. Go talk to Classic Media or whoever it is that owns the license.
As for the rest, "OMG."
I'm wondering what happened to some of those (pretty lousy looking) games that were finished or very close to it when they closed.
Could go for millions I suppose. Would love to get all the carts/dev stuff for free by telling some corporate buyer I'd clear it out for free LOL

I know there's a PS2 store demo out there that has a demo of "The Red Star" on it... that could be worth something in the future...
Ed Oscuro
12-02-2004, 04:01 PM
If it's a halfway decent game, perhaps. It does have the Acclaim mythos surrounding it, I suppose.
On another note, though, I recall there being TONS of demo discs for an unreleased PlayStation game (based on some cartoon movie based in space...forgetting the name right now) on eBay...you could literally buy hundreds of them for $40. It all depends on how much hype surrounds this title...if people market the discs right there could be a surge in interest, but otherwise forget it.

Juiced was picked up by THQ with plans for a Summer 2005 release.
Those arcade cabs look nice. I noticed a bookshelf too - I wonder what those books are.
I think I'll pass at the chance to own an Acclaim conference table, though. LOL

Man, that's a lot of stuff. Plus the actual building itself, minimum bid starts at a cool $9.5 mil. Even just to register to bid for the regular auction it's $500. A lot of money is going to be changing hands here pretty soon.

Ed...it's Titan AE for Playstation. I have the demo, which I got sealed for 2.75 shipped. You can get them anywhere.
As far as I know, there are quite a few proto copies of some of the unreleased Acclaim games. You can get The Red Star for 100 bucks or so (final version, not a demo) if you look in the right places.
I'd be interested to see what dev equipment they put up.

How far along was 100 Bullets before the hammer fell on Acclaim? Anyone know?
And is there going to be anyone seriously picking up the Red Star license so those of us who actually buy their software could get a legit copy? I'm quite a fan of the comics the game is based on.

Actually Zach, while you're here, let me repeat a question from earlier in the thread. Is anyone planning on a legit release for the Red Star and 100 Bullets games Acclaim was working on? By most accounts, Red Star at least was complete. Just curious if you'd heard anything.

I've heard nothing beyond what's already been reported on the web, particularly the English chap trying to form "Exclaim" (ugh). But I've been out of the gossip loop and in deadline hell for the past week and a half. In short, I suck.
I'll don my Speculator Boy beanie and declare that I'd be very surprised if The Red Star doesn't get picked up by somebody. It was the best game in Acclaim's E3 booth, and got lots of good buzz. 100 Bullets was less impressive and less complete. No big loss if that one joins Rattlesnake Red in Limbo.

There will no doubt be some cart protos, and there will no doubt be some unreleased ones. If I'm finding eprom/demo carts at flea markets, the company has to have a few dozen, at least.
I'm amazed at some of the garbage they have at these companies. It's alot like someone's basement with crap shoved into every corner. I want to hit that up for some TVs or whatever. I'm sure it's an absolute fire sale.

Also i'm not lookin for any fights i come here just to enjoy this forum, and to learn something new everyday! :D Alittle jumpy as always! i guess, but in your own words (Not mine?)
In short, I suck
Now i'm being genuine here, you mention deadlines alot, and how your a journo! which is all cool, but i'v never seen or read any of your work? And i'd like to too, are there any links you can point me to?
I'm not being funny or sarcastic, just a genuine question.. i hope maybe you can help.
(( Now back on the topic ))
Is it me? or does it seem that Acclaim, had a huge amount of fairly mediocre games, why didn't they let them go on the cheap say $4 or $5 each? I'm sure there would have been many Video game stores and outlets that would have bought in bulk? Although i'm sure there debt was many millions, it might have helped? who knows?
I never really took much interest, in the whole acclaim saga, i heard they were in trouble, next thing they went bump! O_O
Gaming wise its a shame that a big name like acclaim has gone, since i remember them more for Snes games like Mortal Kombat (1,2,3 etc) and NBA Jam (and TE), and quiet a few other games on both the Genesis and Snes.
But from what i can gather, there quality of games was going down hill fast.. I guess at some point it all had to come down?

I became a loyal Acclaim supporter back when they first released WWF Warzone for the psx a few years ago. I kept buying all of their wrestling games up until their newest one, Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. Man, what a bad game. It was sure evident that they were looking for a bunch of money quick, because it didn't even seem like they had testers for the game because of how many bugs and glitches were in it, it just seemed that they just wanted to release it half done and get as much money as they could from it. Also, there was barely anything to do at all in the game. I beat the game in like 1 hour and then that was it. Nothing else to do. It was also about 1 month after this game came out that they filed for bankrupcy. If any of you have played this game you probably know what I mean about how bad the game is. Honestly, a lot of their wrestling were never that good, but Showdown took the lead as the worst. It had the greatest roster ever, but that's all. Sad too, because it could have turned out to be one of the best wrestling games ever. Oh well, maybe another company will buy the series one day :(

When the fall of Acclaim was made public, rumors had it that Atlus and Majesco were gunning for The Red Star. However, I've heard nothing about it since then.
It'd be a shame if The Red Star never saw a legitimate release. I really liked the demo.

Thanks for the tip Weasel, since it was a cursory post (i made) i don't think it really mattered, since it was a two worded reply. (which was to close to the dreaded +1 LOL)
