I keep hearing people on forums absolutely loving donkey konga, and thanking nintendo for doing something different etc. I own a cube and am looking forward to the new donkey kong platform game using the bongos, but to me at the moment donkey konga is just like a dance mat game isnt it? Or am I missing something?

Cheers

i tried it in a store once or twice, thats what it seemed like to me too, i wasnt really impressed, it bored me in like 30 seconds because i couldnt stand the music selection.

Its "like" a dance-mat game in that it is music based. Other than being the same genre, I don't think there's much in common. Its closer to Taiko Drum Master on the PS2 than anything. I played the crap out of Donkey Konga for two weeks or so... if you are at all musically inclined, or have a decent sense of rythm, this game is cake. I was only challenged hard by a few songs. Still, it is a blast to play, and whenever people come over, this is the first thing that gets brought out. I'd recommend it.

i own both this and ddr ultramix

i have to say that donkey konga is a much better game
i cant play ddr for shit and always get like a D or F ranking
donkey konga on the other hand is fun because it is not as hard, there is less to do, and you dont look like a complete fool playing it

i highly recommend donkey konga before i would ever recomend DDR

The music selection does get better though...and its not too bad game wise, and i love it but hey...not everyone does! :0

I'll warn you that all the tracks in Donkey Konga are cover versions and not the original artists. They have been recorded specially for this game.

The PAL version also has a better selection of music than the US and Japanny versions.

And Donkey Konga gets really hard when you have to guess the notes!!!

I do like Donkey Konga, but it's most fun in multiplayer.

As for the comparison with Taiko Drum Master, well, Donkey Konga is actually based on Taiko Drum Master (both games were made by the same Namco team).

I've enjoyed it so much, I'm actually considering importing the Jap and PAL versions, just to get different songs!

I do!
I really like Donkey Konga, but DKJB looks so much better.

I guess you could say any rythm game is like DDR. Rythm games have no control scheme, or twist plot, you follow the beat! If you don't like this game then your probably just not a rythm player, you preffer action or RPG's.

Its pretty much that simple. This game is alot of fun if you like rythm games, especially in multiplayer. It does tend to get boring in one player mode after a little while.

Meh.

I am still thoroughly unimpressed by Donkey Konga. I have it, Taiko, and DDR. Taiko is great, DDR is awesome, but Donkey Konga is just bland, and has by far the worst song selection out of any rhythm and groove game I have ever played (Itsy Bitsy Spider? Bingo? On the Road Again?)

If it weren't for Jungle Beat coming soon, I would have sold Donkey Konga immediately.
