Hi,
I am trying to see whehter a person age/birthdate can be used to predict a certain era of video gaming CONSOLE nostalgia.
For me, I was born in 1982 and i am most nostalgic of the Saturn/Playstation/N64 era, even though i was actively involed in gaming for the previous 3 generations.
So i want to hear from all of you to see when you were born and what era of gaming your are most fond of. I have attempted to break gaming consoles up into their generations so here goes.
Xbox/Gamecube/PS2/GBA
Saturn/PSone/N64/Dreamcast
Jaguar/3do/CD32
Genesis/SNES/TG16/Neo Geo/Cdi/Gameboy/16bit Computers
Famicom/Sega Mark III/Master System/Atari 7800/8 bit Computers
Atari 2600/Atari 5200/Pre 8bit
If anybody would like to make a suggestion about my console generations the please do. I think that this will be a very interesting experiment.
So if you could format your answers like...
(year of birth)(console generation)
Once i get a few results then ill run a statistical analysis
EDIT...
Woops! forgot to add the DC. I have added it to the PSOne era though. to me PS2 signalled the start of a new generation

It appears 3 years can make all the difference.
I was born in 1979, and I'm most nostalgic of the NES era myself.

I was born in 1978 and my nostalgic era is the NES era. It was the first console i owned, Sega wasn't relevant in my area. We talked about "playing Nintendo" and not "playing videogames".

Born in 1965. I have nostalgia for almost all of those eras. My FIRST gaming era from your list was the Atari one, but I spent as much time if not more in the 16-bit era. And currently of all the older systems I spend the most time with my Dreamcast. So I'm not sure where I fit in!

1975. I'm borderline Atari 2600 and NES. Got into the Atari 2600 in 1985, but actually got my own console in 1987. Soon afterwards, my best friend got a NES, so the logged hours on both consoles are pretty much the same.

1968. The 2600 first then the NES. That's console, my FIRST introduction to video games was the Coleco Electronic Quarterback. My friends and I all had those and other LED games long before any of us had a TV game console. Those things carry the most nostalgia for me.
Still have my original by the way.

Born in 1981 and my main nostalgia system is the NES. I had a 2600,but I don't remember it as fondly as the NES. It was also called "playing Nintendo" as opposed to "playing videogames" in my area.

I was born in 1970, and fondly remember the Great Console Wars of 1980!
It was all about what was the best, and who had playground bragging rights.
To simplify it for you young'uns:
The Atari 2600 was the PS2.
The IntelliVision was the GameCube.
The ColecoVision was the Xbox (graphics powerhouse).
We all won. Including todays generation. You reap the benefits today.

1989/1990.
I was still trying to beat Phantasy Star on SMS, just gotten my TurboGrafx-16 with Legendary Axe and Alien Crush, and was introduced to the Neo Geo in the arcades.
My 3 favorite systems... 8-)

Born in '78. My most nostalgic era is the beginning of 16-bit. I was big on the NES in its heyday, but the explosion of shmups in the late '80's early '90's is my personal golden age.

Technically it'd be for the 2600/Inty/CV, but my main love is for the Classic Arcade quarter-sucking beasts. If offered 3 Arcade games of my choice in exchange for my entire collection, I might just do it.
MY collecting specialy is/was obtaing obscrure arcade translations for the Classic home systems: 2600 Rampage, Inty DK Jr. and Commando, the HES translations for C64, ect.

1975. Age 30 is right around the corner. :eek 2:
Despite my O2 handle, I'm pretty much evenly split between Odyssey2, Atari 2600, and NES. The O2 and 2600 were my childhood systems... NES was the system of my teen years.

I too refered to gaming as "playing Nintendo" never "playing videogames". I was born in 1975, but the first system I could save up for and get was the NES. Seems odd now but I am most partial to the SNES. I think I have just as many SNES memories as NES memories, but I have to go with the SNES.

Born in 1974.
In particular it's the Arcade, 2600 day's on through to the NES/SMS era that I'm still quite fond of. I was a hardcore SMS freak till I played Super Mario Bros. ;) But in anycase the Arcades and 2600 days of long ago that remain surpreme for me.
Of course I also enjoyed the 3DO, and the TG16 quite a bit also. And the SNES...

Tough to pick just one! I can understand why you put 8-bit computers in the group that you did, but it makes it hard for me since i don't really like any of the other systems in that group. Aside from 8-bit comps which are my favorite, I prefer either early 8-bit (2600/Intellivision/Colecovision), 16-bit or 32-bit (when it's 2-D).

I was born in 83, and the systems from my childhood are NES, Genesis, GameGear and PlayStation. I dabbled in the Atari at the age of 4 but thre's no nostalgia there. Too old a system for me I suppose.
Anything after that I bought as a collector/adult and while I enjoy newer games, it's just not the same as going back and playing a childhood favorite. Course the same can be applied to "new" PSX games I pick up. It's also fun to go through my collection and pick out which games are my "originals". You can always spot em from the fucked up manuals. :P

I was born in 1982, and I'd say I'm most nostalgic about the NES and SNES eras (back then I only had Nintendo consoles). I'm finding myself becoming more and more fond of the N64 and PlayStation era, but I don't really feel much nostalgia for that time.

I was born 86, but i love the consoles released before my birth. I guess that means I love 8 bit the most( isnt the Intelly 16 bit)
Our first system was an intellivision, then NES and i have strong nostalgia for both, but I love the Vectrex in a special, unhealthy way.
Mabey its becauase I wasnt allowed to play with my grahmpahs Vectrex, and it sat atop a high shelf out of reach for all the little kiddies to wonder up at.
Perhaps its the machines uniqueness, or its rarity, or its interesting history ( well they are all interesting historicly) NES / VECTREX RULE :P

I was born in 78. We got an atar1 2600 when i was probably 4. So, I hold that pretty close to me for the earliest years. The NES, takes the cake, no doubt. I think I got this when I was 8 or 9. The Genesis+NES pwn3d my teenage years, along with SNES running a very close 3rd to these two.

Born in 1988. I guess im the youngin' so far.
Have the most fond memories for Genesis after that the eras start to bland SNES DC and XBox are all in there too.
And of course the odd love for the NES which i never played all that much and never owned until recently but it makes up 1/2 my collection.

The Atari 2600 was the PS2.
The IntelliVision was the GameCube.
The ColecoVision was the Xbox (graphics powerhouse).
That's a good analogy! Excuse me, but I want to run with it a little!
Could the Vetrex have been the Nintendo DS?
The Atari 400/800s could be the iMacs.
The C64 could be the PC platform.
Okay, enough of that, my brain hurts.
I was born in Dec, 1967 and feel the most nostalgia for the Atari 2600.
It should be noted that I feel the most *curiosity* about Atari's contemporaries, I really want to play what I was missing out on regarding the 5200, Intellivision, Colecovision, Vectrex and even the Odyssey^2 and Bally Astrocade. Unfortunately there's no nostalgia fix in playing an old system you didn't own or play "back in the day". There's only raw primal fellings of "mm, good game", "ugh, bad game" and "the graphics make my eyes bleed so jagged are the pixels!".

The only system I really have any nostalgia about is the NES. I have no idea why, because I played SNES a good deal when it came out, but the NES is the only system that gives me that sweet feeling. Although , Zelda LTTP gives me a very nostalgic feeling as well.
Great topic by the way .

^^Ditto. That is, almost word for word, the exact same post I was going to make.
My friend had a 2600 that we played quite a lot in our early years. But when I got a NES for Christmas in '87, Whoa boy! I'll never forget those years (Late '87 to late '91).
NES: the perfect blend of graphics and gameplay. Pre NES consoles had all the gameplay you could ever need, but the graphics were lacking. Post NES consoles have all the graphics you could ever dream of wanting, but somehow the gameplay got lost in the shuffle.

1971 and Atari as a company is 'most nostalgic' for me. Although I nostalge actively about my Apple II pirating days. My NES days in my college dorm room. My return to modern gaming with the Dreamcast around a year after it came out. Gaming = fond memories.
