View Full Version : Websites Dedicated to a Single Game

Our database supports a field for every game where we can direct visitors to sites that we feel well represent the game. You can find this on some titles like Super Mario Bros and Burgertime.

Are there any sites that you either maintain, visit or can recommend that are dedicated to a single game?

Found these at Dire 51's OPCFG (www.geocities.com/opcfg)

http://www.classicgaming.com/gunstarheroes/
http://www.jhughson.freeserve.co.uk/alisiadragoon/main.htm

It's hard to find great sites dedicated to a single game because so many great games have sequels or quasi-sequels. He also has links to great sites about Space Harrier and OutRun but they don't really count because they cover all the sequels as well, if minimally.

Shrines! Shrines rock...good ones show true dedication and effort by gamers for the love of a single game. There's a few shrines I've been meaning to make..Solstice and Rygar mostly.

The Metroid Database, is always a good one...

http://www.classicgaming.com/mdb/

The Castlevania Dungeon is pretty good too:

http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania/

Those, and many others hosted on classicgaming.com are pretty good.

Oh wait, I guess I pointed out links dedicated to a series. That's OK, I believe there's still some on Classicgaming.com that are for 1 and only 1 game.

Actually series are good too. Those were good examples and I've already plugged 'em in!

Thanks for the free plug, Yash. :D

Well, if we're discussing shrines devoted to game series, then by all means let me bring up West Mansion: The Splatterhouse Homepage

http://www.classicgaming.com/splatterhouse

Run by yours truly, of course. ;)

Then there's the Gradius Base:

Here is a good one for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. Complete maps for the entire game and words of wisdom from Vanilla Ice himself. Word to your mother. ;) This is one to visit when you are stuck on the game.

A page (section) at my site has links to dozens of NES game-specific sites. I haven't checked them out lately, so who knows if they're still good.

http://nestral.topcities.com/

The free hosting service sometimes suspends my site if traffic is too heavy. If that happens, just email me and I'll send the static web page with the links.

How silly of me to forget this one: The Contra Headquarters

http://www.classicgaming.com/contra

Kurt Kalata, who runs the Contra HQ and Castlevania Dungeon (and was instrumental in helping me get the OPCFG off the ground), also runs a site called Hardcore Gaming 101 (formerly the Classic Review Archive) that's dedicated to some of the lesser known/forgotten games and game series. Check it out here: http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews

I know it's terribly modern, but for Steel Battalion and its sequel SB: Line of Contact you can visit

www.steelbattalion.org

A site devoted specifically to SB:LOC is

www.lineofcontact.net

Both sites are the bee's knees in my bonnet. The second one is still a bit of a work in progress, but what's there already is gold.

What about official sites? Some of them are really nice.

I don't know if this counts since there's content about other Konami games on it, but this is the best site on the net for the TwinBee series, in my opinion:

I see smbhq listed for SMB and rbudrick mentioned ClassicGaming.com and I have to put a serious vote out for TMK. Both great sites, but I think TMK is better! just my opinion though :)

HarvestMoon:
http://www.hmfarm.com/ used to be kick ass but it seems to be down now.
http://www.hmotaku.net/ looks ok though.

Lunar:

And I'll plug this because it's a friend's site, but he does multiple Shrines for different games.

I love the Double Dragon Dojo. I loved the DD games when I was younger, although DDIII was very disappointing due to the difficulty.

Wow, great stuff so far. I didn't even know many of these existed. There's some very well done sites on this list; I'm adding as many as possible to the database. Keep 'em coming if you know of any that haven't already been mentioned.

Blurgh... I used to have a lot more to share until my friggin' games folder in my Favorites section was accidentally cleaned... >_<

But let's see what I can come up with. First off, for your Wolfenstein 3D needs: http://www.mac-archive.com/wolfenstein/index.html

Let's admit it, Darius has awesome bosses: http://www.geocities.com/hugedb/

Classic Metal Gear...: http://www.classicgaming.com/metalgear/

... and modern MG: http://www.metalgearsolid.org/

Okay, so far, I haven't done a good job at finding those just dedicated to one single solitary game. What Yashiro said is oh so very true, and if one game is completely awesome, 90% of the time, a sequel is made of it. But as for that rare 10%, those games that were never sequelized but should have damn well been...

Abadox (primarily a sprite gallery, but that's good enough for me): http://www.bogleech.com/nes-abadox.html

Monster Party (same as above): http://www.bogleech.com/nes-mp.html

Shatterhand: http://www.geocities.com/shatterhandweb/index2.htm

Alien Soldier: http://www.classicgaming.com/shmups/reviews/aliensoldier/index.html

Actraiser: http://www.flyingomelette.com/actraisershrine.html

And finally, the uber-great Bionic Commando: http://www.elitecoder.com/bionic/

Granted, Actraiser had a sequel, but it removes the RPG elements and made for merely an average platformer. I accept no substitutes other than the original. Bionic Commando also had more than one game in the series, but the NES game is undoubtedly the most recognized, and this site is primarily dedicated to the NES game anyway.
