I am not even going to mention the Lunar games since every single person who responds will do it for me.

Dark Wizard was one of my favorites.

The reason you can't find anything great is because anything good is semi-rare and very expensive. Sonic CD is probably the least expensive, good game on the system. Like the Saturn, all the best games are RPGS and they don't run for less than $30 bucks anywhere.

Depends what you like. Many of the games are not really great per se, but they are unique. Which makes them well worth playing, IMHO.

here are my favorite action games:

Batman Returns CD -- the driving game is excellent. hard, too. The gameplay and music and sounds all gel.

Silpheed -- not the best shooter but the use of vector graphics and polygon structures (streamed as FMV) and the CD sound makes it a cool game.

Spider-Man vs Kingpin -- better than the Genesis version -- bigger, longer, better animation.

Eternal Champions CD -- way better than the Genesis version , full of many combo's and hidden secrets and a cool sci-fi storyline and great rave music. Use a FAQ to figure out the secrets. 24 characters in all and no clones!

Terminator CD -- better than the Genesis version again, with bigger levels, way better animation and one excellent Tommy Tallarico soundtrack.

Heart Of The Alien (Out Of This World 1 & 2) and Panic.

It's all you need. Maybe a little Time Gal too if you're into FMV's...

Actually, I just got a Sega CD recently along with a some games. I would recommend:

Sonic CD
Eternal Champions CD
Final Fight CD
Robo Aleste

Snatcher (I haven't played the SegaCD version but I'm sure its great. And its the only option, albeit a pricey one, if you can't read Japanese. I got the PCE version because I can)

I like Rise of the Dragon personally, though the arcade sequences can be somewhat irritating.

If you don't have a PCE/TG16 CD/Duo and don't intend on getting one you could also pick up Lords of Thunder and Gate of Thunder (again I have never played the SegaCD versions pesonally)

Shining Force CD is nice.

KeioFS and Popful mail are amusing, if not the greatest thing ever.

ah this thread reminds me of a time long ago...

i saw vay and popful mail at my local used shop where they know nothing...sadly at this time i knew nothing either. the clerk said 'buy these, theyre really rare and great' and i took that to mean 'these are priced high so buy them before you know the difference'...how little i knew then!

so i left to research these games. on ebay, my source of knowledge at the time. so i called them to get them on hold. but theyd been sold already, naturally. and i missed out on both. for $10 each.

still dont have either, but im much more knowledgable now and much less of a cheap ass....

kids, learn from my mistakes!

I don't own a sega CD, but I really want one, just for Sonic CD. God, I've gone far too many years without owing that. I've also heard Snatcher is really awesome, though very pricey.

Never mind about the PCE Duo thing. I am half asleep and didn't notice who was asking. Didn't see the awesome DracX pics, username etc. Didn't mean to offend. I usually write about every game I think of just to help the occasional person who might have the same question anyway.

PC Engine is my favorite system ever and a major focus of my collection by the way. I have named a number of network servers after characters from DracX and other Castlevania games. Sitting next to Alucard as we speak! :)

BTW you can still find most SegaCD games for relatively decent prices if you take the time to look. (Though admittedly not Vay and Popful Mail for $10)

I agree on Terminator its much better than any of the Genesis versions and very different than the others. Flashback for Sega CD is probably the best version to get. Also another thumbs up for Silpheed and Sonic CD, very affordable and yet very fun.

i hate any form of time consuming game, being a person whos only managed to sit through 1 RPG ever...
but snatcher is one of the best games ive ever played, im already like 6 hours into it, its amazing, best story ive ever seen in a game... and like i said that means alot from me because generally if its not a schmup or a neo geo game, im not playing it. i know snatcher is expensive but its worth every penny.

Road Avenger and Revenge of the Ninja. They may be FMV games, but they are very good ones. Road Avenger is especially awesome and almost feels like you're really in control of something.

Sonic CD.. Why it wasn't on the GC collection is beyond me as it's one of the few Sonic games that people haven't played.

Lunar 1 and 2

I loved Popful Mail but many do not like that Zelda 2 Action RPG style.

As everyone has said, RPGs.

Now I'm about to say something crazy...

The Make My Video games are interesting and very cheap. I would suggest picking up one if you haven't already to check it out. You won't play with it for long, but I can honestly say that there is nothing else like it that I can think of. An interesting concept, and one that I think could be done with some more success with the power of a modern system.

Wild Woody is a fun platformer.

Batman Returns is great.

MegaRace is decent.

memory is now further jogged.

I'm surprised I did not recommend Sonic CD and especially Robo Aleste up above. Robo Aleste is one really fine shooter, made by Compile (who made Genesis MUSHA).

Everyone loves the Sega CD RPGs but I cannot enjoy RPG's as they take too much time and I usually lose interest/forget the plot and quit. But Lunar was really cool in the day, it did a good job of using the CD medium for voices & music.

I don't recommend the FMV titles, none of them, unless they are really cheap and you want to experience unique but crappy gameplay. I'm glad that experiment failed & gaming moved on.

So I guess it should be called "Oy Vay!"?

Vay was a huge disappointment. I was looking forward to it after playing through Lunar Silver Star a few times. What a let down. I found it a boring, below average game.
