When a video game mag gets a copy of a game for review purposes; what happens to the game after they're done with it? Do they have to send it back to the developer, or do they keep and archive it?

I think they normally get to keep it.

I think they have to...send it back? :?

I dunno. I think it depends on the developer.

I remember in one of my old EGM mags they said they will keep them for archive purposes, unless the developer requests they send it back.

Well if they do get to keep them then mags like Gamepro, Nintendo Power, and EGM must have insane collections.

My little site (http://www.vgf.com) doesn't get a copy of every game or anything, but we've always gotten to keep the ones we get.

There were a few pics of their vault of games, I saw on the net a few years ago. I bookmarked it, now Im going to try and find it.I will post here if I found it.

Game magazines get sooo much cool crap. Like these slides. Do they still use slides like this?

Unless they request that we return it I've always kept the games. THough sadly I'm no loinger in a position to be on the receiving end of that gaming goodness anymore.

I've got a couple for some game called "The Legend of Zelda 64," whatever that was.

No, nobody uses slides anymore, but I suppose PowerPoint slides are nice, too... :o

When my friend ran FunXbox.com, (R.I.P. Sold for $1600. Turned into XboxAdvanced. Refugees from FXB now live at GeekPub (http://www.geekpub.com). Designed by me. End shameless plug.) he got games all the time. Even a copy of Blinx: The Time Sweeper packaged and shipped in a cat carrier.

He got to keep both. Sometimes I wish I ran a game review site so I could get free stuff. But I don't think I'd like the work attached to it. So I can buy my games.

You get to keep them. They oftentimes don't come in finished final packaging. Nintendo used to ask for stuff back once in a while, if it was a piece of hardware. However, my first Cube was totally free, as was my XboX. I own quite a few pre-release Cube games, all in blank clear plastic cases, no graphics on the discs. Maybe they'll be worth something someday. LOL

I've never had to send a review copy of anything back.
