First of all, I'm a loooong time gamer. When I was younger and for many years I enjoyed playing and completing various titles. Unfortunately for a long time now between work, friends, wife etc, I just don't have time to play very long. I still love the idea of sitting down with say a Adventure or Survival horror title and just playing bit by bit until I complete it but also I have collected hundreds of games between emulators and consoles, PC etc. Now that I have so little time nowadys though I noticed that most games genres like racing/fighting/shoot'em up's etc I just seem to sneak in a little play time here and there, as much as I would LIKE to complete them it's not likely I ever will. Because of this though I have gained a new appreciation for game demos. I have many Demo disks from various Playstation and Xbox game magazines as well as some PC game demos. I know find these are great for a quick game fix because not only can I sample a variety of games I get to try many titles, see what I like as well as what I won't bother wasting time and money on.
As well I figure if I can't at least finish a demo then I most likely won't ever finish the full title either. Basicly my point is at one time I had no interest in demos but have an awakened appreciation for them as they allow me to sample many titles, rate them and save some money. What do you think? :)

I love them because (1) they're free, (2) they allow me to try games before I decide whether to kick out for them, and (3) they're free.

Demos are sexy. Some demos merely allow you to get an impression of a game before you play it. Others are works of art in and of themselves (Xenogears Demo, Bart and Elly "hop in" to say hello to Fei 4 hours before they were scheduled to appear in the game, and the characters aknowledge this fact). Ones you have to watch out for is stuff like MGS2's demo. In cases like that, the Demo ends up being vastly surperior to the end product videogame. :eek 2:

No, I absolutely don't LOVE them. They're nice to fool around with for 20-30 minutes the first time I get it though.

I'm probably in the very small minority here...

I hate demos. If I'm going to play a game, I want to get the full version so I don't suddenly get "cut off." If I want to experience for a little while, I'll probably rent it, although I usually wait until most games are cheap enough to just purchase.

I don't know what it is... I have a bunch of DC demos I got from a friend when I had first purchased the system and I have never played them... I only had two games at the time, and I bought other titles that were demoed on there.

*shrug*

The Xbox probably eliminates this problem though -- I assume you can save your demo progress to start at the same part in most titles, no?

I have been very tempted to grab the Xbox Xhibition disks at Best Buy...

there are people who collect demo disc and I was one of them till recently...
I have fair number of demo disc and some of them demand fair amount of money to "right" people... :)

and then there was beta disc as well as sample disc which isn't demo but full size retail game packages differently... and usually never offered for sale...

Got an OXM subscription just for the Demos. What a crappy magazine... :puke:

I tend to dislike demos. I'd rather rent the game. In the case of games I'm looking forward to buying on release day, I don't want the first couple hours to be a repeat.

I love demo discs.

I like to sit down and watch all of the trailers for upcoming games. It's very rare that I'll sit and play all of the playable demos. I like the interviews on the OPM discs and I've really been enjoying the Gran Turismo 4 monthly updates.

Speaking of....the new Conkers XBOX demo is great! LOL

Whoa...

Where is that from? That's one demo that I actually want. I want to compare the game to the N64 version before I get it...

I do have a certain fascination with demo discs. I wouldn't have discovered such treasures as Frequency or Viewtiful Joe otherwise. It's a nice way to find out if a game is secretly awesome without gambling money on it to find out.
