View Full Version : Weekend finds...

There doesn't seem to be a topic header yet so I'll start. This was a mid week find, but I really hit some nice pirates this week. Pirates are quite uncommon in Japan, but there are a couple stores in Kyoto and Osaka where you can find 'interesting' merchandise if you've got your eyes open.

Picked up a Famicom clone for $20. The system is housed in an N64 style controller, the game plugs into the back where the memory card would go. The stupid part? The big green and blue buttons on the controller are used for START and SELECT! WTF? A and B are mapped to the tiny C buttons, and the other two C buttons are turbo fire.

So why buy this? Well, unlike other Fami clones of the same type, this one came with an optional second controller (in the shape of a PS1 pad) and a lightgun in the shape and coloring of a real handgun! I don't think it will plug into a regular Famicom, though - the plugs are Atari 2600 shaped. Wonder if it'll work on the 7800...

Later in the week, I hit a store in Osaka that usually has a few bad pirate carts (you know, Super 128 In 1 where the '128' games are just eight games repeated over and over)... and they had a Somari for $35! Score - I've always wanted one of these. They also had a pirate of "Super Mario World" for the Famicom, with Peach's head on Mario's body. But they wouldn't let me try it out in the store, and it was $50, so I passed. Not really worth it.

Saw a Blockbuster (the last Nintendo 'pong' system that I need) in box for $35 too, but passed - they're not THAT rare and I need the money more!

I found a Sega Saturn bare console for $4, it was in good cosmetic shape but dusty as hell, there was also a loose Madden 98 cd inside it. I had a Saturn 3d controller in my joystick junk pile and luckily my PSX power cord and universal RF worked with the Saturn so it works great and can't wait to try some other games with it. Very lucky day.

Also found a couple 2600 carts for .50cents, Space Attack and Dragster.

I saw a number of games at a Goodwill but didn't get anything. 5 common Atari games (3 combats) and 3 common Inty games all for $4.99 each. Loose only and they are as-is, no return or refund.

I also found Sega CD Ecco game, no manual for $8.99 (first time I saw a Sega CD in years) and a few XBox game GC games starting at $24.99 and up. I checked 3 GC games, all the disc had huge concentric scratch yet the price tag labeled it as brand new. I guess they were store returns and no one bothered to check the disc. :P

Spotted a toaster NES with 1 controller, no AC adapter or RF switch, $24.99, as-is. A good bet that one doesn't work.

Nothing new added to my collection this month (or last month for that matter) and I'm pretty sure my finds are really dry because there's too many sumguys around.

sense the 1st landed on a Sunday the flee markets all got pushed back so I headed over to Sheveport for the moarket there. It's open every weekend and there is a game seller there in a small house type thing who sells only on Sat. and Sunday. He is overpriced for sure but not overly so.. He also ebays all the money makers so his stuff is always lame.. But for once he had some cool NES games.. R5 to R7's for $5 that I couldn't pass up.. Lots of cool unlicensed stuff.

NES all w/dust covers

Wurms
Micromachines
Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy w/dox
Quatro Adventure (last Quatro needed)
Chiller (this was 7.00 but I've been wanting the game for a long time and it is in nice shape.)
Silent Assault
Captain Comic
Crystal Mines
Raid 2020 w/dox

Got some boxed SMS from him..
Spy vs. Spy..
Galaxy Force
Casino Games
Shanghai

they were 4-6..

From another vendor, some old old lady I didn't care for at all, I got Lolo 1
Soloman's Key
Klax
for 3 each..

She had a mint R.O.B. (everything is there) with mint boxed Gyromite game that I was conficted about.. I broke down and baught it for $20.00 she wanted $35.00 for it.. She had a boxed 6'er with 6 common as dirt boxed 2600 games for, get this, $180.00. I mocked her a bit as she seemed to be kinda snooty, she was pretty cocky and was just , "Oh, I'll get that for it, trust me.. I'll get that for it today."

Some SNES games:

Loose
Breakthru!
Frantic Flea
Ren & Stimpy Veediots

Boxed
Pushover
Lester the Unlikely

Also picket up 5 Commodore 128 PSU's for $5.00.. 2 say dead, so he just threw them in to get rid of em.. no biggie, I can fix em.

The only thing I 've found so far this weekend was a "Power Joy" famicom pirate clone for $2. It looks like a N64 controller but it also has a built in lightgun, 60 odd pin Famicom cartridge port on the bottom, and "9999" built in games. Of course, all 9999 are all the same 5 games: Galaxian, Duck Hunt, Hogans Alley, Adventure Island and some other light gun shooter with different names attached.

Interesting to find it at a Salvation Army!

My only notable find was Giga Wing 2, the last title I needed for my Dreamcast collection. It was $20, but at least I can set my DC-related scavenging to rest.

Picked up an Aquarius
Atari Linx with Xybots and Xenophobe
And a Game.com with Duke Nukem 3d (wtf)

The game.com is a pretty funny little device. I can see why it died so quickly.

Nothing special, but overall it was a pretty good weekend.

Anyone know anything about the Aquarius system? I assume it was made in the early 80's as a cheap TI994a ripoff.

I might pay $30 for that if it was mint, with foam insert, ALL docs, and it's pack in which is SMB/DH/Track Meet. Does it have the Zapper gun too? If not, the set may not have had a zapper gun included.

$50 is top top dollar. For that, it should have a NEW 72 pin connector in it IMO, or at the very least, it should never blink.

Good deal, when i get over there i will take a look again, the price will probably drop by then anyways. now that i got it in my head i will have to look inside the system and see if there are any surprises. i think they also had a boxed SMS and genisis cd. eh oh well nothing i really wnated anyways.

I see these boxed NES sets for $30-35 all the time at flee's.. on Ebay they go from 60-100+ for some reason.. I guess people have more money then smarts.

It's funny how things like this go for more on Ebay, but I can sell a loose Genesis at a flee for $25 but try and get someone to bid on a 9.99 Genesis is futility.
