View Full Version : $200 brag: SNES & CV & 2600

Is it possible to brag after spending a huge amount? Usually, brags are about finding games for a nickel, or finding very rare items for a few bucks. Anyway, a woman answered an ad I had running and I picked up the stuff this afternoon. I only collect NES, CV, and TG16, so the value of the SNES and 2600 games were/are mostly unknown to me. But sensing all those boxed RPG's were worth something, I just gave her everything in my wallet: $200. She also said she has a duffle bag full of NES games, and will give me a call when she gets them back from her daughter. She loves RPG's so Dragon Warrior IV and Final Fantasy are probably there. btw- this woman is over 60 and into the Playstation 2 right now. I want to find the Kingdom Hearts strategy guide for her.

So... did I spend too much? Was it a fair deal both ways? Or do I have something to brag about? I'm pretty sure it's the third option, but want some reassurance. :-)

Jeff D

P.S. - The only CV game I needed was Mr. Do's Castle.

P.P.S. - I may keep a few of the better 2600 games. What are the 5-star games in the lot (i.e. Adventure)?

You got yourself a great deal, and you didn't rip the lady off that bad. I personally would feel back giving her very little for all those rare titles.

Ooh damn... LMK if you want to get rid of that Mario RPG box :-P

Great Deal. Hell, the boxed SNES games are worth over $200 bucks by themselves. Let alone all the guides and other goodies. Nice snag!

If you want, you can buy the Kingdom Hearts guide from Amazon for cheap and give it to her with some more money. ;) I'd say that lot is worth at least twice what you paid for it.

Insane great find on your part. That DW4 strategy guide goes for nearly $50 by itself....and I want it. :(

All you neo-gamers out there love this kind of score for the SNES part. But even this cob web bedraggled classic gamer can see that the lot was worth quite alot more. Nice work!

My question is, what were you doing with $200 in your wallet, big spender? I never hit a market with much more than $100.

Overall, a good deal, it seems. Several of those CV games are uncommon.

Thanks everyone for the assurances. :-)

From youruglyclone:
Any interest in parting with some of that snes swag?

Answer:
Probably. I normally follow tsr's advice ("If it's over 8 bits, don't touch it"). This is the first time I've ever touched an SNES, and don't want to fall into my compulsive pattern of collecting every game for every system I own. But being an RPG fan, and recognizing some of the names in the lot, I'll hold off for awhile before trading or selling.
------------
From imanerd0011:
I personally would feel back giving her very little for all those rare titles

Response:
Ditto. When she calls me about her NES stash, I'll intentionally overpay in order to even things out a bit. Like everyone else, I like a good deal. But taking advantage of a really nice individual isn't cool.
------------
From Querjek:
LMK if you want to get rid of that Mario RPG box

Response:
Just the box? No problem. Got any CV, NES, TG16 for trade? Or maybe some of the SNES stuff that would make my loose carts complete?
------------
From The Manimal:
That DW4 strategy guide goes for nearly $50 by itself....and I want it.

Response:
Consider it yours, as I already have one. It's not mint. Got anything for trade? I'm not looking for anything close to $50.
------------
From ianoid:
What were you doing with $200 in your wallet, big spender? I never hit a market with much more than $10

Response:
Normally, I'm lucky to carry $20 around. But she couldn't give me any definite answers about the lot, only that there were many RPG games for Nintendo, and a bunch of Coleco games as well. So to be on the safe side, I stopped by the ATM before heading out of town (she lives 45 miles away). $200 is the max that can be withdrawn at a time.

Initially, I was disappointed when I saw the SNES box, as the NES is my thing. She never said "Super Nintendo" on the phone. If she had, I might not have checked it out. But when she opened the box (there were five boxes in all), to show all those boxed RPGs, I knew I'd give her everything in my wallet and hope it was enough.

-----------------------

As for trading and selling, all the Atari and Coleco games are available (except for Mr Do's Castle), as well as the boxed CV. There's also an extra CV base unit (no power supply or RF) that I forgot to mention in the first post. Some of the older games are a bit ragged... at least three Atari games don't have end labels. Also, I have yet to test anything.

The magazines, books, miscellaneous stuff, and Nintendo Player's Guides are up for grabs, too. For now, I'll hold onto the strategy guides that go with the SNES games. Email me if interested.

Thanks,

Jeff

I normally hate jumping in on threads with stuff like this, but I could really use the maps and manual for FFIII... if you end up parting out the non-cart items, I'd be very interested :-D

Definitely a good deal. That many boxed SNES games alone is worth a good chunk of cash, and that's not considering everything else (those strategy guides!!). I definitely would pay $200 for that lot (if I had the money around at once, lol).

I was thinking the same. Shit, that CV haul alone was "worth" a lot more than $200.

Heh, neo-gamers...come to think of it, that Congo Bongo w/manual alone should fetch in the neighborhood of $80...nice.
