View Full Version : My horror story of the day.

So I finally open my PSOne LCD combo and I am playing Raiden Project on it. I decide to switch to Tekken. I am sitting at my computer desk with the Raiden case on my desk and the Tekken case on my lap. Then a sequence of events that can only be described as horrifying begins. As I go to grab the Tekken disc, the case slips out of my lap. Somehow the Raiden case goes with it. Both of these are the longbox jewel cases. Crash! Bits of plastic are flying. I sit there in disbelief for a minute. Nooooooooooo!

Luckily, only the tabs that connect the front of the cases to the back are broken off. I get down on my knees and manage to find all the bits except one very large chunk from the Tekken case. I spend over an hour trying to find this last part. I am moving desks and shelves, crawling around in spiderwebs and dust bunnies with a flashlight, looking for the glimmer of beautiful plastic. I scour the entire computer room floor with no luck. I give up and go to bed.

I wake up today and start checking areas above floor level. I have canvassed every surface in the room. Maybe I should just end my life now. Then I remember the trash can. I take the can and start carefully sorting through it, putting the garbage that I check into another can. I am almost to the bottom and about to give up when I hear a familiar *clink* sound coming from a wad of paper I just tossed into the other can. I look back... there it is. The holy grail!

I lovingly take each chunk of plastic and super glue them back to their respective cases. I am still mad at myself for letting this happen, but at least they are whole again. Looking back, it wasn't that bad, but I am obsessive about the condition of my games, and I would have hated to have the cases crack in half or something. It could have been a lot worse, especially if my PSOne had taken a dive. X_x

LOL

Glad to see your sense of humor stayed with you. Oh boy, that can't have been fun :o

I was cleaning my copy of San Francisco Rush 2049 for DC. It was a PAL version with the infamous PAL CD case.

*snap*

Tears were had.

Fortunately I managed to glue the top hinge mount on the front cover. It's stayed together for over a year now.

Is there something I'm missing? Jewel cases are a dime a dozen to worry about a broken one.

He's referring to the Longbox versions.

just fold the manuals/inserts in half so they fit in regular jewel cases...that's what i do to mine, then i just throw out all the longboxes. i like my psx games and saturn games to be all equal height on the shelf.

Yeah, there's no way in hell I could fold my manuals/inserts. That would kill me inside.

That kind of talk got people burned at the stake in centuries past, Procrustes.

I mean, I know you're not expecting the DP Inquisition. But then, who does?

Incidentally, the non-super-glue cure for broken plastic PS longboxes for expensive games is: unbroken plastic Saturn longboxes for cheap sports games. It's not heresy if it's Madden '97.

send the long boxes to me! i need some!

as for the story, i expected that when you reached down to catch the falling raiden and tekken you caught the cord and smashed the ps1 and screen...THAT would be horrible.

Two comments:

1. Great story: I relate most to the "somehow a second thing fell along with the first". Gravity is my greatest enemy. Well, physics in general, really. Anytime I flub something, it's double-flubbed. Always.

2. To the person who suggested folding and using a standard jewelcase: those who do not collect longboxes are either not PSX collectors or will later regret it.

That is all. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, the original post had me seeing it in sloooooow mooootion, with Zing going "OOOOOOH NOOOOOOES!!" as it happened. LOL

Also, when I break the hinge tabs off of my plastic longbox games, I find that one way to reinforce the superglue repair is to take a single-edged razor blade, snap off the sharp edge with a pair of pliers, and use the remaining less-lethal metal piece as a bridge across the break. Since I've already destroyed the value of the plastic piece by breaking it, at that point I'm just interested in prolonging its useful life.

Also, I found that the PSone LCD is pretty decent for playing shmups--much better than I thought it would be.

Had similar experiences with my Pet Shop Boys CD's. Other PSB fans will know which two CD's I'm talking about... :beaten:

Sega CD cases work fine, too. Certainly there's numerous Sega CD FMV games just begging to be put out of their misery. I'm sure one of them would sacrifice their case for the almighty Raiden Project.

Cheers

yeah thats brutal especially with saturn....my collection is in pristine condition and more than once ive dropped/broken cases and had to run to a game store and buy a sports game for 99 cents so i can switch the case...which is usually dirty and scratched and has sticky residue all over the place
