View Full Version : Are you a lonely gamer?

Just curious. Do you play games usually alone, or with other people? How often do you play with others?

Well, I usually play alone, but over the weekend my cousins came over and we had a nice little Saturn brew-ha-ha. While I think I like to take in my hobby alone, the multiplayer experience is nice, too. When you have a lot of games, it's hard to pick which one to play. It's a lot easier to ask your guest to pick a game (coz I guarantee you he almost always will pick one game in a snap)... and then it's up to you to get into that game's mood, which I think is surprisingly easy to do because your friend showed interest in it.

While I consider myself a lone gamer, it's nice having others to play with once in a while. I think the bigger your collection, the more nice it becomes to have gamer people around. Games are like knowledge IMHO, and to borrow a quote from the movie "Antitrust"...

"Knowledge should be open to all"

And so should our games. Just of course, make sure you do all the handling. ;)

I play mostly single player RPGs...so I'm a lonely gamer. I have a few fighters, but no one ever plays them with me. Eep.

I'm a lone gamer, I rarely have company, maybe 7 times out of the year, so it's more of a "TV Dinner for one" usually around my place

I'm a lone gamer for the most part. Once in a while my girlfriend will play a fighting game with me, or I'll have a Goldeneye/Mario Kart fest with a few of my friends, but that hardly ever happens.

I just don't know that many gamers/collectors in my area, so I play solo. Sometimes I also play football games with people I know at school.

I usually play alone. That way I can hit restart whenever I'm about to lose...

I would say I am mostly a lonely gamer. I play by myself for like 30 minutes - and hour a day, but sometimes my friends come over sometimes and play the usual games with me (SMB 1,3 , Mike Tysons Punch Out, TMNT 2).

Nope, I'll even drive four hours away to game with friends -- why, like I did this past weekend! :)

I'm pretty much the lone wolf when it comes to gaming, but that's ok. But I'm always ready to bring out the extra controller for my friends if they want to join in...

Well, I've bee the lone gamer for almost 8 years... the last two boyfriends were decidely anti-game.

The current one enjoys Quake, Unreal, and fighting games, so I've been teaching him. He's getting very close to beating me in Dreamcast Quake III...

It's nice to be around a gamer again.

Cheers

I am more so than I'd like to be.

Girlfriend prefers to either play herself or WATCH then to play two player most the time, dunno why. Only stuff I can get her to play multi most the time are RTSs or Unreal. If I wanna play zombies ate my neighbors or gunstar heroes, I'll have an audience but no partner most the time. Hell, even at the arcade she'll play gun games akimbo, heh.

However, her brother has an awesome place for parties, and party-gaming. Just the other day they got karaoke revolution, and that got most the group going. He plays games, so does his girlfriend, so we have a group of 4 if we want it, just I have yet to talk us into playing through gauntlet together or anything. Ah well.

I play by my self 75% percent of the time. And the rest with family or friends. Mostly fighters, and beatem ups.

Except for the 3 or so times a year that the NECG meets I am a solitary gamer. Kind of sad when you consider that my brother, also a gamer, lives right next door.

I've gone back to gaming by myself ever since DDR died around here. But that's not always the case. Got frenz on the boards an hour away from me, and more frenz that are more like 5 hours but drove here anyway.

I play alone...but I wouldn't call myself lonely. I've gotten used to that. None of my friends game anymore. I have a nephew who, when he was young and his family came to visit, would always bug me to play until I gave in. He kept saying "'Tari"...Now when I go to his family's house, he spends all his time in his room and doesn't even invite me in to play a game...

I try really hard to play games with my friends/girlfriend. Doesn't seem to be too effective though. I spend most of my gaming time alone. Occasionally one of my friends will visit (once a month?) and we'll pull out a Fighter du jour.

My girlfriend is cool to play racing games and Mario party and such. She'll occasinally play a fighter, but would rather watch sitcoms.

Gah, what's wrong with me, I read that as: "Girlfriend prefers to either play with herself or WATCH then to play two player most the time, dunno why." o_O

.... yeah.....

To try to get back on topic, despite that I'm constantly around my boyfriend, I most often play games by myself. Of course, a big part of that is that I'm usually playing RPGs or single-player adventure games or platformers.

I am a lone Gamer :(

There used to be a time when Goldeneye 007 would be the only game I would play and I would play it with people and throw a can of whoop ass on them LOL

Now I just play multiplayers with a friend and my cousin and I play FPS with some regulars on the net.

I have a small group of friends I get together with every few months and play multiplayer games - Goldeneye/Mario Kart 64 last generation and Halo co-op/Mario Kart: DD!! this one. I also play on Xbox Live from time to time (probably not enough to justify the subscription though) and with the wife on rare occasions (Wheel of Fortune, Animal Crossing, etc.), but most of the time I'm a lone gamer.

Hell no. I live with five gamer friends and my girlfriend, also a gamer. I almost never play alone, though I do manage to squeeze in a full sonic 2 completion every day...

I play NES sports games with my college roommate all the time (like on a daily basis). We even have a big scoreboard that records wins/losses for every game. But outside of him, there is narry an old school gamer around (unless a girl is around and I pull out my..... Tetris ;) )

Since March I've spent over 75% of my gaming time on Xbox Live with Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. Which is kind of like playing alone, but not really, since it really requires good communication and teamwork to keep from getting "pwned".

Every couple of months I break out Virtua Fighter 4 and have a throwdown with my wife.

I have been mostly a lone gamer ever since I was a youngin'. I have one friend who plays games with me but I don't get a chance to hang out with him too much. My wife doesn't like playing games at all. So, I'm usually stuck playing them all alone. My wife likes to watch me play sometimes though, so I guess that makes up a little :/

It depends. I like to game with others, but my wife usually isn't willing to sit down and play for a while. My schedule has been crazy lately, which means I game only a few times a week. On weekends, I'll get together and play some stuff with friends when I can.

I used to have a game night that consisted of Perfect Dark, GoldenEye and Bust-A-Move, but that was before I got married. Once I get a house instead of this tiny apartment, I think I'll be starting that type of thing back up. Its fun to play different types of games with friends.

I'd say about 95% of the time I play solitary games. I rarely play anything with more than one player, and I don't play online games at all. My wife occasionally plays a game here or there with me, but I almost ALWAYS kick her ass so she gets tired of it, and she only likes a handful of games two player. It also helps that about 70-80% of my game collection consists of single player games.

At least I'm not a lonely gamer that plays one-handed.... LOL

Most of the time I play alone. It's really only during the holiday's that family comes over and wants to play games. Other then that most of my friends are not that big on games anymore save for few. And they always want to play a different game then I do. Better this way though. :)

The only game I play with others is Ultima Online; I'm still alone, but there are others around technically. But even then I'm out soloing dragons in destard or hunting down paragons. Which reminds me I need to buy some tailoring repair deeds.

Yeah, only having one arm and being a gamer would suck. :( (JK, I know what you meant. Heh.)

I AM a lonely gamer. I really LIKE playing games with my son, it's just that his prime gaming time is when I'm trying to clean the house and make dinner. So we generally end up soloing, except on weekends when we have a weekly session during my daughter's nap time.

Since I think about this stuff all the time, what I really need is someone else who wants to talk about this stuff all the time, and that just isn't realistic.

The only thing that keeps me relatively sane in this hobby (aside from really, really enjoying it) is coming here and seeing all you people who are in some cases even further gone than I am! :) Yay for gaming Otakus!

Playing alone here as well, on a rare occasion I'm playing a round of Re-Volt with my brother. Also, from time to time some guys I know organize a LAN party in town, that's where I bring some consoles and homecomputers and organize the "retro-area". It's usually really crowded there, and we have tourneys of Conquest for the Crown or Speedball 2 ^^

Yup i am, nobody here plays nes anymore, and doesn't understand why i collect it, so i'm doomed to play alone, sometimes i play with a homie, but that's like once in 3 months orso!

I do both-I play a number of games by myself, and I play with my buddies quite a bit too. We tend to get together at least once a week, and play all sorts of stuff, from mario kart, to pac-man vs, to powerstone 2, to frogs n flies, to halo, to (on emulation) the original PDP Spacewar. That's not including all the people I met through fighting games, and as such, play with on fighters like KOF, matrimelee, smash bros, samurai shodown, and street fighter.

And of course, there's certain people here who can wipe the floor with me in bust a move, but perhaps I've said too much...

I'm a lone gamer for the most part, especially since most of my friends just plain suck at them. I have a couple of gamer friends, but the only one who REALLY likes playing video games just wants to play Guardian Heroes and nothing else when he's at my place. I guess I can't really complain about that, but still. ;)

Yep...I'm mainly a lonely gamer. I detest split-screen gaming. Abhor it. If it's online gaming, I'm all for it. If it's single-screen multiplayer gaming ala Baldur's Gate, count me in. System link like TOCA with two TVs and two systems, sure. Split screen? Don't waste my time.

Our 19 yr old son absolutely LOVES split screen multi. He's got friends over for multi player Halo2 sessions several times a week. I don't see how they can stand it.
