Just got my copy of Growlanser I ordered directly from WD. As always, the packaging is just BEAUTIFUL! The extra stuff is just over the top, with watches and all kinds of crap. For ordering straight from WD they give you a bonus mini-card deck and two pewter pins. Lemee just say the mini-card deck is REALLY REALLY mini, about the size of a matchbox. Just wish I could play it today, but the semsters about to end so It's no fun for me today :( .

Hopefully the deluxe packs will still be around in a few months when I have the money to get it. If not I'll have to settle for the disc only version. Oh well, I'm sure it'll rule either way.

If you've ordered directly from Working Designs like I did, don't freak out cussing up a storm when you don't find those pins and that mini deck of cards in your package. Dig down around in the peanuts, thats where you'll find it. And you might want to check and see if your watch is running. Mine was. Nice stuff though. I gotta admit, they do make nice looking stuff. Mines even nicer now that I've peeled off all the 'Made in China' stickers. LOL

Nah I knew WD would come through eventually. I just hope the game sells well enough to keep them alive for their next release.

Anyone play the game yet? I noticed something odd when you go up a level...
When you can choose tabs of what type of skills you want to improve... and then what skill you want to improve.
Well, the music playing dips very low when selecting the skill, while it jumps back up when selecting the type of skill.
Just wondering if it's only me.

Speaking of Duke Nukem Forever (Sorry for going off topic) But when is it going to be released.
Also going on topic if it would take a decade to release it WD would be out of business.

I saw this at gamestop today but I don't know if all the extras justify the extra $40....89.99 just sounds a bit pricey for this. I have to decide weather I want the 49.99 or spend the $40 extra bucks...Really I just want the soundtrack from the special edition.

They announced their pick for physics SDK just a while back, so hopefully 2 years?

Mine arrived today as well in the mail.
For those who care, WD is back at the cover variants.... (after taking a break for Silpheed and GunGriffon Blaze even though those are numbered for variants, ive yet to see a variant for either of them)
Regular Growlsancer releases appear to have the "A" cover (itll show after the SLUS#, and the collectors edition is "B" from what ive seen and been told so far.
/me goes to buy the other variant.

I've only played through about 3 battles, but i've enjoyed it so far :)
The battles were a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it.. it's peachy.
I haven't looked too much into the ring system though.

Both games are solid. The semi-real-time battle system is good stuff. It's not very complicated (you can't even use items in G2), and it doesn't try for any Nippon Ichi-esque elements beyond tag-team spellcasting, but it moves quickly. The ring system isn't very deep, either--you just slap on a ring and equip it with one to three skill gems.
G2 looks and sounds like a PS1 or even a Sega CD game, but G3 is a little better. I very much doubt that Sony would have allowed G2 to ship as a premium-priced SKU even if Victor's guardian angel was still there. It's just way too raw.
The translation is typical Vic, veering wildly between very funny and embarrassingly melodramatic. The game will hum along for a while without laying it on too thick, then unleash a howler of a sentence. "Eat steel, you disgusting freak of nature!" "I didn't mean to paint the moment black." "Why have you fallen to your knees?!" "I will crush you to your very marrow!" Uff da. To misquote Harrison Ford's comment to George Lucas on the set of Star Wars, "You can write this shit, Vic, but you sure can't say it."
The grown-up voice actors are mostly fine, but the many teenagers are mostly awful. I confidently assume they worked for cheap or for nothing, and Vic got what he paid for. Fanboy fave Jenny Stigile voices a couple of characters in G3, and she's always good. I'm pretty sure I've heard John "Ghaleon" Truitt as well, but I haven't reached the end credits yet. :)
It's a helluva lot of S/RPG for the money (if you buy the $50 version), and that's the best thing about it. Ironic, then, that Vic was essentially forced into making a double-pack.
