I've been playing this game a while now, thought I'd comment on it in a new thread. I have played the original countless times and I've also played Origins.

This is my first time so far, and I've gotten to the airship. My party makeup is fighter/monk/monk/cleric.

When you start off the cleric seems to be better at attacking. Also you go by a spell point pool and not the classic D&D spell system, which is nice. The levels seem to go faster, but I assume the level cap is higher than 50 because I'm 27 now and just beat Lich, by 27 you were smacking Chaos around in the original. You can finally buy potions more than 1 at a time now, which started with orgins, YAY! The bosses have a LOT higher damage reduction now, by the time I got to Lich my monks were pulling 8 hits and doing 400+ damage to imps, but to Lich they were doing 8 hits and 40 damage. More of a challenge now. Also there is no silver sword in Elfland anymore, which is kinda a shock, but this makes the weresword and runesword actually usefull at the point you get them. The amount of creatures in the ocean have been drasticly reduced, from teh beginning of the game untill the point I met Lich I had only encountered one sea enemy. Oh, and combat is much smoother now that your chars will auto retarget when the enemy you targeted originally is killed.

I went into one of the new dungeons, the earth shrine, getting down to the last floor was tricky. Once I got there I fought 4 bosses harder than Chaos, needles to say I got spanked. One casted any spell, another was just straight melee, and the others, well, I didn't last long enough to see what they really did. This is only the first of what I assume to be 4 shrines. I did get a nice elven cloak which equips like a shield and the cleric can use it, making him much more resiliant. Oh, btw, every char now has 5 slots for equipment. (Bracelets still take the place of armor though) Oh, and they made axes actually usefull for a fighter, first time I've ever used one in FF. Also the ingame map is excelent now.

All in all its a great remake, they didn't do too much to ruin the classic feel. The level changes throws me off, but all in all the game feels much easier than the original. And the name changes on items/spells throws me off too. I have yet to play FF2 though. Well now you see just how sad of a FF geek I am, sorry for going on and on. But the FF fans will appreciate it ;)

Best of all, the bats still say "Kee kee".
*edit* Oh, I should add all the new higher potions should trivialize the high end game, but we'll see.
