Hockey is one of my fave sports. Now that the NHL lockout seems to continue till the end of the season, I'm thinking of following G4TechTV Canada's example and play virtual hockey instead.
Now, of the currently published games (not past editions), which ones do you recommend? I know there's EA's NHL 2005, Sega's ESPN NHL 2k5 and SCEA's Gretzky NHL 2005.
If you've played any (or all) of the above games, let me know what you think! It'd be for either GameCube or PS2.

My favorite this year is ESPN's.
My all-time favorite for this generation of consoles is NHL Hitz 20-03 (I know you said no past editions :), but I can't help myself).

NHL 2005 on the PC is great, but I'd pick nhl '98 on the genesis any day...

I'd pick NHL 98 on the SNES over the GENESIS one :D
Early NHL games on the SNES were slooooow but by 98 I swear it is not only equal in play but visually superior by far.

I still play Hitz 20-02 because of the arcade style gameplay. When they overhauled Hitz last year, they ruined it.

Early NHL games on the SNES were slooooow but by 98 I swear it is not only equal in play but visually superior by far.
That's why NHL 94 is soooooo much better than 98: realistic movement. 98 is ridiculously fast. The only snes era NHL worse than 98 is 95. And if 94 had a season mode, it would be the undisputed king of all hockey games.
Im no sports fan but I did enjoy Sega's ESPN NHL 2k5. I played the Xbox version by the way!

ESPN 2k5 Hockey on Xbox is the best hockey game ever. In fact, I would say its my favorite game of all time. It completley kills EA NHL 2005. Plus I have seen it new for $20Cdn! Best game ever is $20 new, cant beat that!

Seriously, though, I started to wonder how come I own three modern baseball games (All-Star Baseball 2002, Homerun Kings and MVP Baseball 2004, all for GameCube), while having no recent hockey game whatsoever...
Anyway, thanks for the advice, guys! I think I'll go for ESPN NHL 2K5.
