I know for certain my 2600 wasn't, still have the box with clear taped ends. I know the first Gen I bought wasn't, but that was when they only had 6 games for it. Several 2600 and NES were not wrapped either especially if there was a hanger punched out of the box. I bought most of my games at toys r us and they had all their stuff in the cage and they OPENED EVERYTHING and logged contents and serial #s. That's why most of games I bought have a copy of the receipt in the box. I know why cuz the NES I bought took a dump I bought another one and stuck the broken one back in the box and returned it for cash. Target did the same thing - You guys need to watch it b/c I know over half of the sealed claims are bogus. You don't even need a machine to it.You can do it with a hair dryer. It's one of the oldest tricks in the city, Brand new TV's in brand new sealed boxes only with a brick duct taped to the bottom or the painted gold chain with a 24k clasp. Oh yeah one more thing about toys r us and target, they had to have been doing at least 50-70% of total sales here on the west coast, Computer xoftwear stores charged way too much and vid games stores were not prevelant like they are now. Even places like Blockbuster were controlled by areligious group and they used to censor their own movies, until ppl started noticing.
It's a grrat scam who in the hell is going to open up a box they spent $200 or $300 more than one that is loose??? Every grocery store and about half of the retail stores not to mention every warehouse that ships anything has a shrink wrapper. And all it is - is a couple of metal rods to holp the plastic and a rod that heats up to pinch it off, and something that blows hot air on it to get it to tighten up. Few more things to look for scattered dots, standard printing is countinuous tone if there was a halftone generally between 55-85 dpi the ink stays wet and blends, printers have drying methods so they don't stick together coming off the press. I can go out right now and buy the same exact boxes and throw it through my thermal printer and nobody would know b/c technology is affordable especially if i WAS SELLING $3 games @ a 300% mark up. And do you remember getting toys or something that was wrapped??Do you remember those little holes that made it really easy to tear the plastic off?? The FBI now estimates that anywhere between 40 - 80% of all autographed items are forgeries, and that takes SKILL.
