Hmm.. Looks interesting. I'll have to try it later.

I remember all the hype.. then the painful disappointment. Hell, I was even looking into getting it at one point. I mean, this was John Romero! The guy responsible for DOOM! How bad could it be?? LOL

Yeah, I know. Funny. if a game so hyped that took 3 years turned out so bad. What about a game that's been hyped and in development for almost 9 (http://www.3drealms.com/duke4/)? ;) LOL

"And yes, we know the game has taken a long time. There's no possible joke you could make about the game's development time that we haven't already heard. :)"

Oh, I beg to differ, I'm sure there are still PLENTY that people will be coming up with for years, lol.

I think the new Earthbound game has been in development even longer than Duke 4...from N64 to 64DD to ?? Cancelled? Gamecube? Who knows...

Intersting. I have the game listed as a European relase yet the page claims it was never produced. Any Euro GB collectors able to verify it's existance?

Weird...I bet it gets canned because of the DS....but what the heck happens to all of the code/scenes we saw of the 3D n64/dd we saw. Hmmm...

Sorry...I'm leading a threadjack.

As I understand it, the team kept that code for whatever reason(probably for emotional reasons), and the GBA game is pretty much supposed to be the exact same game they had goin for the N64, just, in 2d format.

Considering Mother 1 &2 came out last year for the gba in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised to see this one come to fruition finally. Which works for me-the 3rd one certainly seemed to have the same sense of humor, even if the demo's character was a sweet cowboy rather then a kid.

Beat it. This game is a decent Zelda clone, but it's short as hell...

On topic: I have always been interested in Diakatana. So interested, I bought the game used recently, but haven't yet played it. Since I don't get many PC games, that's probably pretty good.

Off topic: How I understand it, Earthbound 64 was being headed by a different team and was dropped because the people that had done the original two weren't on board for that version of it. Earthbound 3 is well into development for the GBA and should actually be making its way over here, as even though the first games sales were disappointing, someone from Nintendo acknowledged there is a large fanbase that has warmed to it since then.

Actually, the latest semi-official word was that they supposedly started over again with a new storyline. I don't feel like digging up the story right now, though.

You can actually find some of the music they were planning to use. (I think it's on Itoi's website.)

Back to the topic at hand, it's a pity Romero decided not to write a book, as Knee Deep in a Dream (http://www.gamespot.com/features/btg-daikatana/) is still relevant in these days of overworked EA employees.

At present you can download Daikatana from Underdogs, but it should be replaced with a buylink soon. This ROM sounds much more intriguing anyway. (Yes, it might be a crappy GBC port, but Romero helped make this one. Check it out, Gamespot actually has a review (http://www.gamespot.com/gbc/adventure/daikatana/review.html).)

So what's this about an N64 version of Daikatana?

The best account I've heard (secondhand of course) was that the team wasn't familiar working in 3D and everything suffered as a result...and what is a game besides art assets and game code? :]= They could've kept the "shell" concepts but they'd still be starting essentially from scratch.

As for the game...hmm...super-deformed characters...dungeon crawler...HEY, why wasn't the FPS like this? Oh yeah. :>

By the way, I thought that "If it wasn't for Jon Jon ROME.RO there wouldn't have been no Di...wait, that's if there wasn't no Big Ass Katana there wouldn't have been no Ion Storm!!!11 LOL" was a bit gratuitous...somehow.

Just a little more info on Mother 3 (which will HOPEFULLY HOPEFULLY HOPEFULLY BE Earthbound 2). Last word from the creator, the game was about 60-70 percent done. The game will have the same story as the N64 game would have. Mother is an extremely popular series in Japan (why do you think Ness is a character in Super Smash Bros / Melee?), so the chances of it being cancelled are next to nil. We can only hope it makes its way over here. If not, the fan translation will pop up not too long after release....
