View Full Version : Hows your Intellivision collection?

Cleatis

My collection included the Tandyvision, Intellivoice and about 50 games. Back in the 90's my fathers exgirlfriend ran off with all of it. Ive started round two of my retro collection now. Im just curious as to what you guys have been able to get your hands on. Any sealed items or rarities. I promise to not hit you up for a sale. (Unless its something that really strikes me as a must have but thats rare) ;)

Probably about 20-30 games, tops. Most of em are boxed, with the jewels being my Intellicart, and my copy of Stonix from CGE. I own the intellivision model 1 and the intellivoice(also boxed), as far as hardware goes.

I never had it as a kid, but since my grandma got me one at a church sale years back for 5 bucks (with about 14 boxed games and said voice), I've loved the goofy little thing.

Glad to hear it.

You say you have a complete collection, DigitalPress? ECS, Keyboard Component, Playcable Module, Test Carts and all? What about ultra-rarities? Perhaps an International Intellivoice Module?
I used to have an Intellivision IV Master Component...but then I woke up. :(

Ah, you got me there. I do have the ECS but not the original brown keyboard; we do have a PlayCable Modem - boxed, even - in the CGE Museum. I don't have any of the crazy international stuff, I'm not quite that hardcore. I love the system but like most of the stuff I collect, it's mainly focused on the things that were available via retail back in the day. I do own the democarts and a few prototypes, however.

Yeah getting a hold of those things can be a real pain and it doesnt leave much $$ or time for other collections so I hear you there. You gotta spread the love.

Ive been working on my NES collection. Im hurting for another Intellivision collection though. I think Ill buy a few beaters and renew them. I like the idea of saving the life of a few Intellivisions.

Actually, as a somewhat serious post, I don't collect Intellivision at all but I do love the system for some bizarre reason. Shark! Shark! is one of my favorite games from the golden age, it's so...zenful.

nearly complete, down to the final 10 or so and its slow going now. i'm not the ebay type so i'm depending on finds or trades to carry me the rest of the way. no rush, i've got many collections to feed. got lucky with the rarest game "congo bongo" so i can see it happening some day.

once in a while i gotta play a lil he-man, other than that not much else excites me on that system.

I'm down to 8 more carts to a complete collection I believe - I'm not counting test carts or variations.

I've got all the commercially released carts. I still need some boxes, manuals and some of the test/demo carts. I think I have all the U.S. systems. I have a few Digiplay & CBS carts but not much other international stuff. I have Stonix but not 4Tris. Most of the stuff I don't have everybody else wants too. I'm trying to save money to go to Japan in March so I haven't picked up anything recently.

Intellivision was my first non-pong console, got it when I was about 10. Still have all my games, with boxes and overlays from back then. I think I have just shy of 30 games.

Though after all these years I'm still bitter that I did a swap with a friend for the weekend and on the following Monday went back to his house only to find he moved away to Pittsburgh. With my copy of Truckin'! So I got stuck with Sub Hunt instead. By far not a fair trade.

OK, whew. I was afraid this was gonna be one of those mob extortion things where someone sidles up to me and says "How's your Intellivision collection, huh? It'd be shame if something had to...happen to it. If you know what I mean." *wipes sweat off of forehead* You have no idea how many times that's happened to me.

I don't have anywhere near a complete collection, but I'm going to estimate I have over 50 unique games, a motley combination of boxed and loose. Me, I just like playing 'em. I don't know if I'm enough of an uber collector to go after anything like a Playcable or an ECS. If the price was right, sure, but I'm not gonna take out another mortgage for it.

The way I see it you got the better deal! I'm in that minority that LOVES Sub Hunt. After I got really good at the game I started timing myself to see how fast I could finish it. Of course, the real payoff is the Flight of the Valkyries theme it plays when the game is over - that is an AWESOME piece of Intellivision music right there.

I like Truckin' too. :)

I remember asking for an Atari 2600 for Christmas, & was snooping around for my presents (such a rotten kid!), and underneath an afghan(sp?) in the bottom of my parents' closet was the Intellivision. I was a little bit suprised to see it, since I had cleary stated ATARI!!! But, being somewhat childish hiimself, my father had picked up the 2600 pretty cheap from a friend as well. I also did a little pre-Christmas "investigating" & found the 2600 about a week later. He had seen the Intv displayed at Sears, & thought it was superior. Damn, I think it was priced around $299 at that time!

I've now got an Intv System III boxed, with around 50 completes & another 40 loose carts, over 300 overlays-I.M. if you're needing any as I've got tons of dups, & the voice synth. Great system in despite of the discs!

97 cartridges, 67 of which are complete
That leaves about 26 to go for a complete US collection, I believe.

It's been several months since I've acquired anything new or even had my Intellivision hooked up to play.

Anyway, my Inty collection has been pretty stagnant for the last few months - I had never seen one in the flesh before I found a console w/ the Intellivoice & Golf earlier this year, so I bought it, had a quick go and then shelved it until I had some more games.
Not too long afterwards I found a stash of about 20 boxed games, bought them all and got home to discover my Inty no longer worked. :( I've opened it up and fiddled around but can't get any life out of it. No idea what happened, it had just been sat on a shelf since I had tested it, and it was working fine then. I've been meaning to pick up another so I can try out all these games, but haven't got around to it yet.

I'm still about 10 releases short of an entire North American collection. I just refuse to spend more than $30 on any cart, no matter how rare, so that's about where I'm stuck at.

I still love the Intellivision. It's got personality, and personality goes a long way. It's too bad that many people can't look past the controllers to see that.

I don't have that many Intellivision games. Actually, I own one INTV2 in box with controllers, plus a handful of games, my most prized game in the lot being Diner.

However, I do have Intellivision Rocks! and Intellivision Lives! for the Mac, so my goal in getting the console itself was to play some of the licensed games that couldn't be included on the CD-ROM for copyright reasons.

I also wanted an Atari 2600 for christmas but got an Intellivsion. I'm glad I did though my friends and I spent hours and hours playing it in the early 80's. It broke in the mid-80's (the wires got pulled out of the controllers) and I didn't get another one until 1997. I still have my original console but I gave the games away long ago. The only hard to find game I had back in the day was Safecracker. I bought it from K-B Toy for $.99.

While Atari 2600 was the first real console I had growing up I wasn't old enough to really enjoy it, so the Intellivision is the one that holds "that special place" in my memory. I used to collect EVERYTHING for it. I had at least 8 different console variations, probably more. I had both versions of the ECS and music synth. I was close to a complete collection... maybe 15 titles away. Then my priorities changed. When I got mnarried, i realized I don't have the money or space to have everything, so I'm just keeping what I'l play, for all of my systems. Surprisingly, I still don't regret getting rid of a lot of my gaming related stuff.

I'm 13 short of a complete collection. A few years back, I went on a major Inty Trading spree, and I STILL didn't get Tutunkham or Super Cobra, Congo Bongo or Stadium Mud Buggies. I did end up with complete runs of Coleco and Activision for the system, though.

P.S. Inty Smurf doesn't exist; try as we want, it doesn't exist.

I think I say this in every Inty thread, but I still belive it: Diner alone is reason enough to get the system. Also pursue Thunder Castle and Thin Ice.

Surprisingly good, considering that I don't go out of my way to collect for the system. I've just had some lucky finds. Started when I bought a friend's Intellivision III and game collection. Sold that console when I picked up a Super Video Arcade, in box, for $2.

I don't have an exact count of my games, but it has to be around 75. About half are boxed. Don't have many of the major rarities but I do have Dig Dug, Diner and Chip Shot Super Pro Golf. My system and loose carts are in a nifty woodgrain/plastic storage case; these things are dirt common for the Atari 2600, but you don't often see the ones made specifically for the Inty. Found it at a thrift store for $1.

I also picked up a system with two Stickler add-on joysticks and two slip-on gizmos that increase the size of the fire buttons. Sticklers aren't all that rare but I've never heard much about the fire button doohickey, so I assume it's tough to find.

Found a System Changer once. Sold it.

But my most interesting Inty find has to be the subject of >this thread< (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45415).

Complete cart collection (including Stonix). Took a weird approach though, only tried to get CIB for games with overlays. Most of my white label intv corp releases (no overlays) are loose.

Also a system changer and ECS. Plus adapter circuits to plays with genesis or jaguar controllers. Still need to improve the video mod for better performance. Joe Zibicek (sp?) sent me a better circuit

Aha! I knew I'd read it was possible to build a Jag adapter. How difficult is that project? It's kind of my Intellivision "holy grail," since I dislike the regular controllers so much.

Maybe about six hours of cutting wires and soldering if you know what you're doing. Gathering components and drilling holes in the project box takes awhile too.
I published plans, but AFAIK, no one besides Jay Tilton has built one:

Good considering that I have only picked up things in the wild. Here is what I can remember systems wise:

Intellivision I
Intellivision II
Intelivision II keyboard
Intelivoice
Tandyvision
Super Video Arcade (Sears)

I think I also have about 30 games but don't have a good count.

Today I added, Math Fun and Checkers.

Two loose INTV 1s, 45 games (half complete, half loose), 2 voice modules. I've also got the 10-in-1 and 25-in-1 handhelds. Intellivision, along with the 2600, are the only two systems for which I'll snatch up anything regardless of condition and only slightly regarding cost.

Back in the 2600 vs Intellivision heyday I was squarely in the Atari camp. But now that that particular war is over I have come to appreciate the many fine virtues of the INTV. The sports games in particular are pretty great; Baseball and Boxing being my favorite standouts. The controllers can be a headache, but one of these days I'll probably get around to doing something about replacing them with something else.

I really enjoyed meeting that group of INTV programmers at CGE. They were a really nice bunch of folks. Once my Rooma Dooma gets organized I'll be proudly displaying the poster they were kind enough to autograph.

Once you compare...you'll know

Whats a WICO adapter?

WICO was a manufacturer of high-quality arcade parts that also made joysticks and adapters for home consoles back in the '80s. Their home products were usually marketed under the name "Command Control." WICO's adapters typically allowed Atari 2600 joysticks to function on other machines. They made adapters for the TI, 5200, Odyssey2, etc.

I had thought they made an adapter for the Inty, but after some quick research, I can only find references to the Command Control joystick. I was able to dig up a photo of it here (http://members.tripod.com/classic-videogames/intellivision/hardware.htm) (well, its box, anyway). Rare goodies, they are. Naturally, they only work on Inty consoles that have joystick ports, like the Intellivision II. I'd still like to have one.

And thank you, RedEye, for getting to the smart ass replies before I have the chance.

Mine's complete except for the two Euro releases - all US releases and homebrews accounted for (of course they're not all pretty and boxed like yours ;))

I've got the white ECS and music keyboard, and the original Mattel release INTVs (plus an original 2609 with a serial number so low it could have been one of the test market ones). I never bothered picking up the Tandyvision or Sears one. I still need to grab the Sears released games boxed (since some of the time its the only way of knowing if you have a Sears one - INTV released whitelabels too).

The whole reason I got into this crazy hobby in the first place was due to the Intellivision.

I am a huge Intellivision fan, but sadly I have yet to complete the collection.

I'm close, I'm only missing the rarest titles now, like learning fun, spiker etc..

It's funny that after all this time, the reason I got into doing this is still unfulfilled, to complete my Intellivision collection.

I'm going to have to make that a priority and go hard after the ones I'm missing, then my Colecovision will be next.

For not collecting it as my focal point, I have done pretty well collecting it in the shadows. I have 71 Boxed games and 37 carts...including many of the white label rarities. I have a boxed I, II, III(still stapled and sealed). I do have one crazy rarity R10...The Intellivision Basic Cassette and Cartritge Boxed complete with instructions. I also have a "Brown Whale" Keyboard Component Owners Book #2792. Another wierd thing I have is a mail in offer for the Printer 40 Thermal Printer. I consider this of all the non game things that I collect to be the rarest.

I love seeing old threads like this bumped.

I've got all the carts for the Intellivision. I'm still missing about 30-40 boxes, though. Unfortunately, most of the hard ones like Spiker!, Congo, Stadium Mud Buggies, Learning Funs, etc..

I'll get them eventually. If I were actively collecting for it, I'd have it done a long time ago. Its just that I spend so much of my time/effort/funds on NES.

I'm nowhere close to a complete collection. But since I don't use eBay, it makes finding rates in the wild that much harder. I've got mostly what I grew up with, though I have been slowly adding lately. About 40 games (mostly loose, through I do have instructions & inserts for the vast majority). I have an Inty 2 and a CIB Intellivoice. My family's original Intellivision died, but we replaced it with an Inty 2 back in the day - I'd like to get an original model again, as I never liked the 2's keypad.

Still have the Sears console from my childhood, plus 11 boxed games and 27 loose titles with a couple duplicate carts. There used to be a couple dozen more boxed games, but I think one of my sisters ended up with those. And she had an Inty II and I think a voice module.

I have 33 games and 2 model 1s. Fortunately, I have several of the rarer games (Congo Bongo, Dig Dug, Super Pro Wrestling). Unfortunately, I don't really like the system. I've tried on several occasions to give it some attention, but I can't stick with it. The only games I really liked were Utopia and Snafu.

There probably is something to be said for game systems that predate your introduction to gaming. I started with the Atari 2600, but never had an INTV until I started collecting. If there isn't that connection it may be harder to open up to a classic system.

Well, since my 1st post in this thread from 2004(!), I'm up to around 70 games now. My policy with Intv (and all pre-NES consoles, for that matter) is to buy titles I don't have indiscriminately. Every blue moon a box of them will show up in the thrifts and if I'm lucky I'll usually find one or two new titles amid the mound of MLB's and Astrosmashes. For a while Intv was my second largest collection of titles, but it has since fallen to 3rd place, eclipsed by Genesis. The only thing worthy of note in the cart collection is that I now have all the speech module compatible titles CIB.

About 18 months ago I got a hold of an INTV 2, which is nice for space conservation purposes. And I learned the hard way about the compatibility issues with this machine and the early runs of titles like Donkey Kong and Venture. So there's still an Intv I sitting in the garage in case I need it.

I also got a hold of a set of those Wico joystick controllers for the Intv 2, but I'm not so sure they're working correctly. Probably nothing a little clean-up wouldn't fix.

There probably is something to be said for game systems that predate your introduction to gaming. I started with the Atari 2600, but never had an INTV until I started collecting. If there isn't that connection it may be harder to open up to a classic system.

I had an Atari 2600, and a neighbor had an Intellivision. I used to love going over to his house and play it. So I had a good desire for one from the beginning. In the late '80s, a co-worker sold me his old Intellivision II with the controllers shot to hell and five games. More importantly, I also got his INTV mailing list they sent him, which is how I bought stuff like Stadium Mud Buggies and Super Pro Wrestling. I was into the Intellivision pretty early, but not so with other consoles. I picked up a Sega Master System around 1998, never having played one before. I didn't like it at all. The same with the Odyssey 2 that I bought at the Oklahoma Videogame Expo three years ago. Without an early interest in a machine, it's hard to get into it years later.
