Shipping for this has to be about a dollar tops in a bubble mailer.

I sometimes wonder how people find auctions like this. I mean, are people actively searching for bootleg "82 in 1" GameBoy games?

I wonder which shipping cost is the enforcable one? From my experience, the auction text overrides any of the built-in Ebay stuff, but I couldn't find anything about it in Ebay's policies. It would be funny to see this guy try to enforce his $24.95 shipping cost. The $4.95 shipping cost is fair, though.

If you send it by Priorty Mail using the USPS envelope (the one I allways buy there cause of the thick padding) and factor in tracking and insurance, like I always use, yeah, it can come close to $5.

Factor in time/gas, packaging, postage, insurance, and tracking and $5 bucks is a good price. It just seems worse on this auction because it's a gameboy game, but I think there wouldn't really be that much difference in shipping cost between a gameboy game and an NES cart.

Factor in Ebay/Paypal fees, which if his item goes for 3.99, will eat 90 percent of his proft. Believe it or not people, us sellers don't sell things on ebay for run, we are trying to make MONEY. Now, I totally agree the 24.00 shipping fee is insane and wrong, but the 5.00 one isn't. I charge 5.00 shipping on all my smaller items.

He must be smoking some good weed or something for that price. $24.95 my ass. He's probably hoping just to get one bid...to save on some ebay fees.

If I remember correctly, the minimum charge for sending something via Priority mail is like $3.85. Delivery confirmation (which is a must w/ Paypal nowadays) is an additional $.40.

So basically this guy is "profiting" a whole $.75 before you consider optional insurance, his time, packing materials, gas, etc...

Wow, he should be able to retire in no time.

LOL LOL

Actually it's $.45 for DC on Priority and $.55 on all other forms of shipping.

So he may have to hold off on his retirement for a while. :-P

Yea, some seller do charge alot for shipping. But, they charge alot so the hig bid is less which means less Ebay fees.

The ones that charge alot, I just stay away from.

I've bought about 30 GB games in the last 8 months or so and I'd say the average shipping is 2-3$ for 1-2 games, loose, in an envelope. 4.95$ is the highest "regular" rate that I see on a regular basis, and more often then not its only for complete copies. If they charge me that much I pretty much expect it to come in a box though (and generally it does).

So don't send it pritority. Get a plain manilla envelope ($.10), wrap in newspaper (which you likely have), and write an address on it. Wow, real expensive.

1) A padded envelope is about $.50

2) 1st class mail is about $2.00

2) Delivery confirmation is $.55 for standard mail.

3) Insurance is about $1.20 for up to $100 insurance.

So without insurance we're up to $3.05

So now lets talk about insurance. I'm assuming that you generally decline the optional insurance since saving a buck is so important to you. So what happens in the rare case that your package DOES get lost or damaged in the mail? It does actually happen from time to time and not only is this the post office's busy time of the year but being the cheapskate that you are, you had the seller ship the game in the thinest, cheapest envelope that he was able to find. I suppose that you'd expect your seller to absorb the entire loss himself and issue you a full refund? And hey, even if he isn't willing to do so we all know that you'll get your full refund anyways since Paypal is uber liberal with seller's funds.

Sorry to be harsh but this scenario isn't as uncommon as I would like it to be. So yeah, while sometimes I do make an extra buck or so profit on shipping it all evens out when a customer who wants it all claims that he never got his item.

Awesome post. You summed it up perfectly.
