Retroputing is a section of Particles! and is now officially live! :) It was created specifically to fill a void - there isn't much in the way of "centralized" classic computers forums on the net as there are classic consoles. We're hoping to fill that void by introducing our classic computer dedicated forums.
Come check us out :) http://www.particles.org/forum (or you can hit www.particles.org and click the top bar link).

Just wondering how do people collect old computers... I know that they buy them duh, but what do they do with them? Some people actually have a lot of old computers hooked up to play different games on? I agree some of them look cool, which is why I will eventually try to get a couple, but what do you guys do with them? (I just signed up, #6 below Flack) :/

Eventually, I may take the fish tank route :embarrassed:
Atari 8 bit emulation and the Stelladaptor really give me no reason to play my actual 1200XL anymore. I'd love to hear what others do with their classic computers, it may give me some good ideas...

I think for me personally, it's that I enjoy collecting computers that I used to own or that I knew people that owned. I personally owned Commodore 64, Apple II, TRS-80s and PCs growing up, so those are the machines that most interest me. Since I had a 64, I'll check out the Commodore 16, Plus 4, and 128, for example, but I really don't have any interest in buying or collecting for computers I didn't own or don't have any reason to own.

My old computers sit next to the classic consoles in my game room, in some cases side-by-side. It's all old silicon, but some of it just has a few more buttons.

Hey, it's like an old console, but with software dongles and its own (usually matching) monitor! Plays in RGB (-alike) all the time! How can you not like that? LOL
Yeah, I've got a good number of Macs right now. I've been trying to get a copy of the Marathon trilogy but the latest one is much more expensive than the last which itself wasn't cheap (current one is over $93 last time I checked...with over three days left...)

I like having old computers just so I can make them do weird tasks. It's also fun to mess around with old paint programs and do retro graphics stuff. But yeah, I can't see myself actually _using_ anything older than an Amiga... systems without HDs are just too painful to use. I wouldn't mind having a C64 so I could hook it up to the TV and watch demos and stuff, though. You can do that with emulation, but it just doesn't look/sound the same, plus compatibility is generally much more of an issue when emulating computers than it is with consoles.

Cool, best of luck, hope your old computer section flourishes! Personally, computers bore me to death, both old and new, one reason I could never be a programmer or whatever. That and the computer field iis crowded as hell.

Heh, signed up as well ^^
I still use my Amigas and C64 to play games and watch demos. There are so many great games available, the game libraries are larger than any console's library, so it never gets boring :) I'd eventually like to own all the different Amiga models, but it's really a space problem D:

Thanks for the great response guys! I'm in the process of adding some FAQs on how to make original disks from disk images found on the net - I'm not a fan of emulation, I like to use the real equipment ;) I could use some help on TI, TRS80 and Atari computers if anyone has that knowledge handy.

Bumping an old post - figured it would be a better idea than starting a new post on this topic to tell more people about it :)
