Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who deep down inside feels that it was a disappointment. Agree? Disagree?

I've never really been a big fan of Halo as it is. But I tried it out, and it was OK I guess. Nothing all that special.

My favorite is "stupid noobs ruining my hobby"

Although Halo 2 is a great game, there's several things that could've, I think, been done better, which would have propelled it into the realm of a "GREAT" game. The ending is the most obvious part. Still, considering how damn fun the multiplayer is, I'm not bitching.

hmm... It seems to me like alot of people here dont like Halo very much. I fail to see reason why, i mean unless you just dont like fps games then i dont think there is anything wrong with the game. what im guessing is most people got tired of all the talk about how awesome halo was, and then when they tried they were dissapointed maybe? i personally LOVE both games, but im not one of those guys who play it all the time and say that both are the greatest games ever...

While it is fun when playing online... it's just no where as near as good at the first. A BIG disappointment for me. No way I'm spending 50 bucks on this game, when I already have my Halo. That's enough for me.

LiquidX01
12-10-2004, 10:54 PM
Yeah I agree that the ending was hacked up, but if it was done with intentions of making a Halo 3, then Im all for it.

To me its like seeing a good movie and getting all into to it just to have it end suddenly and leaving you with a ton of questions... usually a sequel follows.

I beat Halo on all 4 difficulties on my profile. All 4 difficulties on a second profile and just beat it to beat it probably a good 5 or 6 times.

I haven't played the 2nd one, so I don't know if they changed it, but there are two reasons why I hate Halo

1) Not many weapons, you can only hold 2 weapons at once, no dual wielding. I like FPS like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Unreal Tournament, ect. Where you can hold every gun at once. It may not be as l33t, but I find it to be funner.

2) A big whopping ONE charcter model to choose from, with palette swap! can you say BOOOORING!

Those are my big beefs, and the reason I think Halo is just a mediocre title.

There is no question the game is overrated. I was expecting much more. I have gone through the original game a good 5 times with my friends etc..The original had a better story, better graphics, and better weapons...I do love the multiplayer aspect of the game, but I don't think it totally makes up for the other problems/weaknesses.

They appear to have taken it out of Halo 2, but in Halo, it shows the symbols below the levels, when you've beaten them on that difficulty.

I do know that it does profile save it when your starting the new difficulty levels for Halo 2 and when you beat it on Heroic and Legendary its suppose to give you new multi levels (and that shows that you beat it on those difficulty levels)

I havent played Halo 2, but I played Halo 1 for the 1st time a few days ago, and I bet one level. I thought it was a pretty good game but is it overrated, HELL YES! I mean it's got nothing on Goldeneye or many other FPS's.

i am not a huge fan of FPS games or anything, but i dont see how people can be so hard on halo 2.
i had halo for about a month... never beat it, but i played it a little-
i think this sequel is quite good, and quite fun- i honestly dont see anything wrong or bad about it, except that the xbox controller takes a lot of getting used to for FPSer's.

I like how people who don't like FPSs or only played the first one, or played either game for like 10 minutes are the bulk of the people who post in here.

Halo 2 has both dual weilding and 2 character models to choose from (although most people online seem to stick with the spartan model from halo 1), but to give you the magic FPS bag of all guns would just kind of go against the Halo way.

i thought Halo was meh at most, until I read the book series. The books are outstanding and enhance the game immensely.

Single player Halo 2 is good nothing amazing, multiplayer is great fun and is the best part of the game

I can't stand the control in Halo for some reason (all modern FPS control, honestly), and I didn't much care for it. I own the Xbox game, and I gave up playing after about an hour.

That having been said, I can completely see why people love the game. The production quality is extremely high. The enemies are interesting, and the storyline (from what I've seen / read) is great. And the multiplayer is very strategic.

I haven't played H2 yet, but I figure I'll end up thinking the same thing.

I just wanted to note this now:

Doom 3 was declared as many people as being overrated, although I adored it. I thought that the storyline was excellent (well... most of it), the scare tactics were horrifying and the gameplay was really solid. That having been said, I can also completely see why people didn't like it:

It wasn't the "classic" Doom style of run fast and shoot everything. Instead, you had all this other stuff to worry about too, and the pacing, especially with changing the flashlight was the opposite of what most people expected from the follow up to such a fast-paced game.

I think that depending on what you were looking for, either game can be over or underrated.

*sigh*

I found the first Halo game to be very well done and a joy to play. It brought several new things to the table and was a sensory feast.

I found Halo 2 to be very disappointing. The game had been delayed forever, which usually brings up a red flag. To have the bugs that Halo 2 shipped with after the delays that it had been under is something that is very hard to overlook. In my opinion, if the target for Bungie in the sequel WAS to create the ultimate Live Halo experience then they should have released an online-only Halo 2 package and scrapped the offline component of the game. This is where the game falters.

It isn't very difficult to walk into any video game store and find self-proclaimed Halo fans that ARE disappointed with Halo 2. When you talk to these people there seems to be a common thread. None of them have XboX Live.

I finally played Halo 2 the other day. Never had played it before in my life... seems like pretty much every other first person shooter out there. I suppose what draws people to it is mainly the vehicles. I'm not a big fan of FPS games, but Time Splitters and Red Faction are much better IMO.

If by better you mean, you can snipe with a tommy gun in time splitters. Seriously, after I saw that, I questioned why anyone would even bother with a game that...well...ridiculous.

Halo 2 is a very good game but all in all it was overhyped and I was dissapointed in the fact that for some reason i enjoyed the first more
What I am surprised about is all the negative reviews that KILLZONE got in the mags and on the net. after reading a few reviews I wasnt even going to bother to check the game out but since I ended up with a demo of it I popped it in my PS2 and BAM! I thought the game had great graphics and was a very enjoyable experience overall yes very different from Halo but Im sure thats what the developers were aiming for.
While far from perfect KILLZONE was the one out of the two that impressed me more: greatly detailed graphics good control and excellent animation.
I hope to see Killzone2 on PS3

OK, I can understand the hype around "retro" games.

But the gaming industry has grown alot since, and it seems that the hype that is put on games is way beyond reasonable expectations nowadays IMO.

So who's to blame for overhyped/overrated games? The publishers? The consumers? The websites that review them? Combination of all?

Allow me to be the first person in this whole thread to say that I am loving every second of the Halo 2 experience. I think the offline portion is 100% awesome... the sense of scale that they have integrated into this game is really blowing me away.

And yes, yes, the multiplayer is awesome too.
It's everything I expected and more - can't wait for Halo 3.

Just my two cents, from a retro gamer who gets bored with most games pretty easily these days. I love it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who deep down inside feels that it was a disappointment. Agree? Disagree?

To me Halo is totaly stupid. Th single player aspects are the stupidest in any action game.
1. All the chapters in single player mode, you have to jump in circles and kill the aleins. You have the vehicles too but they don't change much.
2. Same online, the jumping is the just not good.

Now some people hate FPS games, I don't necessarily hate FPS games, I played Soldier of Fortune, Half life 1, Kill Zone.

Spottedkitty

I have to say that while I'm really enjoying Halo2 and it's online play (well, mostly) it's just not the Halo I knew and loved. Not that that's a bad thing but there are a few minor issues that are spoling it for me overall.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a *huge* Halo fan, it was what brought me back to gaming after a long drought, however I think H2 has really become "just another" FPS. There's still the storyline (which along with the books and community is really quite interesting) and the online play is really quite good but...just...well...there's something missing.

The thing that caught me in the original was the whole "30 seconds" philosophy. The hook that got me was the fact there were so many little moments that stood out when I was playing it. The Elites flanking you when you go to ground, anytime you ran into the Grunts (Ahh, the Grunts!), the music and numerous other things. I just didn't get the same feeling from Halo2. The set pices felt more of a slog and less fun, especially on the higher difficulty settings. ***spoiler*** There was a section late in the game where you're on the High Charity that if I'd played through one more time I was gonna break the TV. That never happened in the original no matter how many times I had to re-play a section ***end spoiler***

The "popups" (where textures and even whole models just appear) in the cut-scenes and stuff really put me off as well. I'd rather have the loading screens, thanks. Just makes the whole shebang look unprofessional. Nice idea, but it didn't work in practice.

And, lastly, the online play. Oh the online play. I'll start off by saying that I'm having a blast in online stuff. So far the ranking system has given me some good games. There still remains the fact you cannot have a public un-ranked custom game. I could live with this fact if the reason given for not putting one in wasn't so, well, arrogant. The basic reason given for not putting on in is the fact they had the nice new spangly ranking/matchmaking system and were afraid noone would use it and therefor decided not to give people the choice. If I'd try to say to some of my customers they couldn't have something because I didn't want to give it to them I'd have zero customers in a very short space of time. I'm also dissapointed that *none* of the H2 reviews out there ever picked up on this.

So, all in all, great game and one I'll be playing for ages yet (I still have PoP2 on my shelf wiating to be played) but not really the game I was expecting when it comes down to it.
