I know there has to be fans of this game here. I just got a laptop and I can finally really get into it (the first one, not the sequels).
What strategies do you guys have? Anything I should know? How bad is it to drown ticked off guests and bad employees? ;) I've found that I'm not a fan of building the coasters. The interface is kind of clunky and I just enjoying making the space and laying stuff down. Too much other stuff to do and watch.

Depends on if it's 1-2 or 3. Also, it depends on if you are looking to make a kick ass park or just make the goals.
Personally 1 and 2 are pretty easy. Each death ride later in the game gets it's own repairman pathed to that ride and every main ride gets a janitor at the exit. No gardens
no mowing just used the land tool to "mow" while paused.
listen to the people.
RCT 3 the best stratagy is to just throw in as much crap as you can and raise the price 3x as high for rollercoasters then just fire staff every few months because they get bored and lazy.

Actually, I just had a question. How do you reopen a ride after it crashes (first game)? I reset it, renamed it, then opened it, but the poeple just stood in the line and couldn't get on.
Is cutting the grass a big deal? I've never had anyone complain and usally just have one guy cutting if need be. It's a bit much to keep up on.
Also, what additons did RCT 2 make? Is it mostly the same? I don't think I can run 3, but I might look into 2 depending on the features.

You can probably run three if you can run 2.
The original had Loopy Landscapes expansion and Corkscrew Follies expansion.
I am currently download...err....getting my purchase key for RCT3 now.
I dont know, you kinda mentioned the interface being clunky, and I thought that was part of the appeal of the game. I'm currently playing Zoo Tycoon and about to crush the daylights out of it. It's been a while since RCT, but I do remember a few similarities. Like how after a while the attractions are no longer appealing to the customers. After you open a new attraction, the amount of visitors will skyrocket. So when you are dwindling in numbers, tear down an old attraction, and put in something new....
Same as stated above with the employess, watch what they do. I have been firing people constantly due to their incessant need to "patrol the park". Stop patrolling, pick up some trash, and move out!
Also, build a long pathway from the entranceway to the back of the park.... Build the entrance to the rides as close to the entrance to the park....That's where the largest number of people congregate, and they give those rides the highest ratings....and then concessions and gift shops of course.
 Happy Tycooning. And we'll have a drink when you are a big wig ;)

heh, i played the hell out of the first one, but it's been a few years.
first off, if you don't like building coasters...um...i just don't know what to say to that. to me that is the game.
but anways, if you want to make money, charge per ride. if you want visitors, charge per entrance.
a good first ride to build is go karts. go karts raise alot of money for cheap (high excitement), and their pretty easy to build. the trick to building is to increase excitement without too much intensity, which isn't a problem for karts. just make a tunnel, and put some trees in, and overlap the track a few times. they'll pay a good $8-10 a pop for the ride.
don't spread out your park too much, peeps start getting lost. on some of the scenerios, i actually recommend 'cutting off' some of the trails untill you are ready to build alongside them.
don't worry about souveniers/food if you are charging per ride, it won't help much.
put lots of trash cans in,and seats in, and the staff is important, imo. you can designate where and what the staff do, so do that. older rides will need a mechanic for that ride specifically. put clean up guys outside of the rides that create alot of puke, and cleanup guys around your food areas (anywhere you see puke/trash). i never used the entertainers that much, just a few here and there.
people like water parks.
you should really work on your coaster skills :) start off with go karts, wooden coasters, and mouse coasters to get you started, then move onto the (more expensive) steel coasters , loop coasters, etc. they are harder to build. you get lots of excitement for drops, scenery, tunnels, and looping through the coaster/other rides (and dual coasters). you get intensity from sharp turns, insane speeds, and other sudden movements. intensity is good to a certain point, but not too much.
but the best advice i can give you is...think of the theme parks YOU"VE been to, and try to emulate what they do, and not just necessarily what you like about them (ie, i love roller coasters, dislike kiddy rides, but not everybody does)
