sounds impossible, but there are examples of games released on multiple generations, where the version on the lesser console was infact the better game

one glaring example

California Games SMS vs Genesis

The SMS version had bright graphics and crisp sound (especially since the SMS had crap sound 90% of the time), the Genesis version only had 5 events instead of 6, the graphics and sound were plain. and extra little touches like sponsors, surfing judges and the minigame for breaking records are nowhere to be found. CG was one of the best games on the SMS, while the Genesis version is a curious footnote in the pre-sonic era of the genny.

other examples?

i'm gonna vote for NES mighty final fight over SNES final fight. although there's no 2-player co-op in the NES version it's a much better 1-player game, with emphasis on experience building, and infinitly better control. final fight guy might give mighty final fight a run for it's money, but not the original SNES release.

i think i prefer the 8 bit version of Outrun over the 16 bit version as well. the music on the 16 bit version sounded like lounge or elevator music, while the 8 bit music rocked. gameplay wise, the 8 bit version held up very well, except for the tunnel screens.

SMS/GG Castle Of Illusion beats the MD one by miles IMO, i dotn know why, i guess its probably cause i grew up playing that version on my cousins game gear

MK2 on the SNES was far and away better than the version on the 32X. I suppose it's debateable that the 32x was a better system, but the SNES looked better, sounded better, and the normal controller was far better.

Battle Toads/Double Dragon for the NES is far better and nicer looking then either of its GEN or SNES counter parts.

And Double Dragon was better on the NES and SMS vs. the Genesis version.

I have to disagree with FlufflePuff's assessment of MK2, though - in my opinion, the 32x version blows the SNES game out of the water. I've always felt that the SNES versions of the MK games were too slow in the gameplay department. The 32x version retains the speed of the Genesis version and features nearly arcade perfect graphics and sound.

Double Dragon SMS Vs. NES...imho I had more fun with SMS because of the co-op mode which the NES verison did not.

I agree with it290 about the 32X verison of MK2...it was downright perfect in graphic sprites and backgrounds...improved music and sound effects. Even included the original Arcade epilogue which wasn't in SNES or Genesis.
Have you played Primal Rage on 32X? It's actually pretty damn good and much better then SNES or Genesis by far

Rocket Knight Adventures Genesis Vs. SNES. I Liked it better on Genesis for some reason...I think it was the fact that control setup felt better over SNES.

Donkey Kong NES vs. 7800. Nes verison hands down...the 7800 comes so close, but the sound effects is where it falls down a bit.

ah yes, Double Dragon. I agree with that one as well. The Genesis version looks arcade perfect, but is not playable whatsoever

32X Mortal Kombat II was a toss up with the SNES version. The sprites were more arcade authentic on the 32X, but the sound was missing a lot of the voice clips. Control wise, the Genesis had the better controller, (assuming you used a six button), and a true 8 way d pad. But i truly dont consider the 32X to be that big of a step over the SNES

Micro Machines on the NES was better than the SNES version. speed was forsaken on the SNES and MM is a racing game, hence speed helps the gameplay just a bit :P (though the Genesis version is better than both)

The PS2 version of Grandia 2 isn't even worth playing.

The Dreamcast version of the same game is one of my favorite RPGs.

I beg to differ. The 32x version was the best translation of those 2.

The GBA ports of Earthworm Jim 1&2 are terrible compared to originals on GEN/SNES. Don't even waste your time.
