I am wondering for those that use a snipping program on ebay, which is the best one out there. I'm thinking about Esnipe, because it is relatively cheap, and seems to be one of the larger companies doing this. Please give some reasons why the answer you give is the best one. Thanks alot

Think I might look into esnipe...Been forgetting a lot of auctions lately and now that I close instead of open they very often are ending when I'm at work and I have to throw in a final bid before I leave =\.

Aw, come on. It's much more fun to do by hand.

I think the best method for sniping is to get a knife and stab yourself in the chest a bunch of times.

sorry but my theory is:
auction sniping sites are for wussies
LOL
I do all my sniping by hand, and if I can't, then well, oh well. I much rather have someone snipe me manually than some stupid computer. But whatever, being sniped is being sniped right? Of course.
I have never succumbed to any auction sniping site, and I never will.

and losing is for losers. if using spining programs saves me games, sleep, money, and time, ill do. and my collection will prosper as a result

The only reason I want a sniping tool, is so I don't always have to be around the computer to bid. I mean... what if a game ends at 3 a.m, I don't want to stay up and watch it, I would much rather have a sniping tool bid for me.
Oh, and thanks alot for whoever told me to stab myself. LOL

Paying to have someone bid on an auction is only for people who bid once a month.
If you bid on more than one item per day, it's just downright stupid.

Please enlighten me on the reasons for sniping. :?
If I want an item I just bid the most I want to spend when I first place a bid. It saves on headaches.

The reason for sniping is to get the item for less. If you bid your max price a day before the auction ends someone will bid until they go over your price. With a snipe they think they are winning until the last few seconds and it is to late to bid again.
I have usee Auctinsniper for years. I had the snipe set for 5 sec before the end and once in a while they would not get the bid in on time. So I changed to 10 sec and it works fine.

If you've listened to any eBay PowerSeller, or read any books on eBay, what do they tell you to do? SNIPE! Everyone else does, so why hurt yourself? For those concerned with paying for software, use Auction Stealer:
http://www.ebaysniper.auctionstealer.com/home.cfm
Completely free. The free version only requires you to log in, and you never, EVER have to pay fees. The problems are that you can only snipe on three auctions simultaneously, and you can't change the time the snipe is sent in. Not a problem for casual eBay users, but you can't change your bid in the last two minutes of the auction. If you're snipe is outbid in that time, you have to bid manually.
EDIT: The snipe is sent in the last ten seconds. However, you cannot change the bid that is being sent within the last two minutes of the auction.

Right. A snipe is exactly the same thing. i.e. It's just a bid that you put in with the most you want to spend on the item.
...The only difference is it's a bid put in as late as possible.
For me, I use Auction Sentry. Runs on my pc and unless something happens like my connection goes out.. it's 100% perfect.

1. You dont drive the price up. If you bid early, someone will attempt to outbid you. Therefor driving the bid up.
2. It "saves on headaches"
I use Auction Sniper. Its never let me down.

Two minutes is a snipe!?
I have to agree with this. I place most o my bids within a 10 minutes period of bids closing anyway....So to hell with your Snipe techniques

25 seconds? You could have beat that with a 3 second snipe. Conform, my friend.

2 minutes a snipe?
In the words of basketball analysts, 2 minutes is an ENTERNITY!
So is 25 seconds.
For the record, my best snipe was with 2 seconds to go. Other guy must have been pissed

Well it could of been 15 seconds im not too sure, But when I did get outbidded, I panicked big time! I think I tried to outbid the sniper but it wasnt high enough, or maybe I didnt have enough time. I was so upset, all I could think about was that auction for a few days and I was positive I had won it, since Ebay Australia usually dont have many snipers...or so I thought :(

The best snipes are those last-second ones where you're desperately trying to guess what fraction of a dollar the previous bidder used so you can outbid him by a penny. ;)

So if you were willing to bid more to win the auction, why didn't you just bid that amount in the first place?
Some people complain about sniping, but if you bid the most you are willing to pay and still lose, sniping had nothing to do with it.

So if you were willing to bid more to win the auction, why didn't you just bid that amount in the first place?
Because the Snipe bids with only seconds to go. Wheras if we both put in our highest bid, then I would be able to bid more to outbid your highest bid. Not able to do that when you snipe because I wouldn't know unless I was there for the last thirty seconds of the bid. And using the same way of thinking that you mentioned, why not just blace your highest bid instead of sniping? Huh? Or were you just making a hypocritical statement?

Sniping is quite exillerating in those last few seconds and while some people may not like it, it's just the way to go. Every time I've bid early with the max amount I've wanted to pay it's just driven the item up way too high. I usually snipe auctions around the last 15-20 seconds then pray ;D.

i -always- snipe.
It doesn't make SENSE to me to bid before then. I'll just get outbid. I've had items in my watch list, from 9 days, 23 hours, 50 minutes to go, all the way down to the last 25 seconds when i bid. actually i've sharpened it, i rarely bid before 17 now..
Anyone who needs a sniping program is clearly a rookie. I used to suck at sniping. when i started, 2 minutes WAS a snipe. now i laugh at that. I used to freak out while sniping but now i have a technique.....

Well, yeah. The sniping programs is what upset Thwomp, not the people that do it by hand. If you do it by hand, then I am all for it. As mentioned in my first post regarding this thread.

"I am the sniper" really means "I am the guy who is always at my computer with a good memory" or "I am the guy who is always logged onto eBay," which excludes the rest of us whimpy snipe program using fools.
We can explain the arcane logic for why it is true BUT this is a fact:
Sniping increases your chances of winning an item, and sniping increases your odds of doing it at a lower price.
Of course, the only guarantee to win something is having the highest bid.

No sniping programs for me.
Sniping only works if
1. there aren't too many people looking at the auction
2. the current price of it is still quite low
3. highest bidder put in a fairly low bid - meaning, they really didn't want the item that much.
How many times have you snipers tried to beat another bidder, only to find that they have set their max bid higher than you would be willing to go? If that's the case, they are welcome to it. On the other hand, if you are the high bidder being sniped on... If you lose out, it meant that either you set your bid too low, or they were willing to pay more than you were anyhow.
I can see the utility of those programs for auctions ending at inconvenient times (work, sleep, etc.). But in truth, if I want something badly enough, why not just bid the most I am willing to go? If you lose, just means someone is willing to pay more than you.
On the other hand, it is often beneficial to wait until as late as possible before putting in your bid. Whether it be 5 seconds, an hour, or 2-3 days (I've done this on things before leaving town, and have had some reasonable success).
To each their own. However, bidding is always easier when you know exactly how much you are willing to pay for an item. You don't get caught up in the heat of the moment while sniping and pay more than you originally intended.

I use a sniping program for several reasons;
1) It is just good strategy. Why drive the price up? There is more to ebay then just price for many of the bidders out there - they think of it as winning and losing. They *need* to be the highest current bidder for some reason - they will pay more then they want to to beat you. Auctions are like distance running - the inexperienced runners sprint out take the lead early, only to get passed in the last few laps.
In a 7 day auction the first 6 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes are completly meaningless.
2) It keeps you out of bidding wars. For the same reason listed above, you can force yourself not to get involved in "winning" - put down exactly the amount you were willing to pay - the only way you lose is if you were outbid.
3) I don't want to be tied to the computer more then I currently am. If an auction ends at night, when I am at work, or out of the house - the program will snipe for me.
Also I have a hard time remembering exactly what time things end sometime. Rather then having to convert pacific 24 hour time to est, then remember that on tuesday at 10:39 pm i must be at the computer....
4) the computer is more accurate then I am. It can get the bid timing to + or - 1 second.
5) The program I use is freeware.
Thwomp can cry all he wants, but I am going to win auctions for cheaper...

Sniping works, and is necessary for certain items, as a quick perusal of eBay's own forums will prove to anyone who bothers to check. I use a sniping program because for the love of Christ I have a life and don't want to run to my f'ing computer in the middle of the Simpsons to bid on an Astro Boy trade paperback. Thank god for that conveinence.
