View Full Version : Does anyone else here try to keep this site a secret?

I would never tell anyone, except for the people I know and trust, about this site. I don't want people coming in here ruining this site by posting off topic topics, posting their stupid randomness, or being dishonest traders.

I think of this site as a secret island. The island is full of peace and harmony and only those who have proven that they are worthy of living on the island get to. If an intruder gets in, the island just may be ruined and be no more.

I know its great to have even more members here but you can't invite everyone.

Nice fantasy, but I'm sad to say it ain't true.

Though I agree with you, I try not to tell known lamers about the site LOL Thankfully, I don't know that many...most people are good; the flame wars just arise out of a little ignorance now and then.

I know there are a few bad people here every now and then but you know what I mean. It isn't like GameFAQs. I love GameFAQs so much (it may even be my favorite site) but it sure is filled with a bunch of stupid people.

I know what you mean. Like posting this topic in the Video Game Forum.

Peace? Harmony? Well, maybe lately, I guess.

Hmm, that is kind of ironic.

Me embarrassed :embarrassed:

I'll keep that a secret if you can..."Hey remember that time you put the wrong thread in the wrong forum section?" shhhh ;)

If I meet somebody who I feel is legitimately interested in classic games, I recommend this site to them. I kind of surfed on in by accident--I had never heard of it before I came here. This site is the best resource I can think of. There is a lot of combined knowledge of all types of games on this board--moreso than just about any other community online.

Iam inviting other people from my other forums to come here and see the retro goodness. Ive told people about this site and plus I know some members here already that are on my other site. So yah...tis good. Some need to know...

When I'm looking at this site at high school the common responce is...
"Whats that?"
"Learn to read, and you can figure it out."
"Shut up, faggot! It must be a homo site!"
and if I do tell someone, they are like
"Do you guys talk about Halo and XBox and good games like that?"
"Mostly retro games, Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis."
"Videogames didn't exist before Halo!"

So yeah, because everyone here is a 'Faggot' and the games we talk about dont exist, I dont have to worry about it.
:-P

I got here through someone on another forum mentioning the "Rooms of Doom".

I invited some other fellow gamers to this site after we wallowed in a wasteland in the wasteland that was another crappy game site.

Would i keep this place a secret? No. But i am aware of the type of gamer to recommend this place to.

Right on, brothers.

Keep it a secret, or tell everyone you know - doesn't really matter, because we've got a tremendous core of people who CARE. And that is the REAL secret to a fab gaming community.

Thanks for posting here.

I don't mention it all that often, as I don't run into a lot of people who would be interested.

This site is, however, something of a haven. While there's the occassional person who has yet to discover the joys of grammar, the vast majority are refreshingly articulate.

I, too, am protective of who I inform of this site, this is a really great community (by in large) I agree that it is as digitalpress put it, because people "care". These are my favorite forums on the web.

...I am much more protective of who I tell about the books. Whenever I go into those VG shops that have all their old games at the same rather high price, and as a result of which have a huge selection because people don't want to spend $ 8-10 on (mostly) generic SNES games, I'll take the old trusty advance guide and pick up every R7 or "valuable" game. I have had clerks ask about the book and have tried to sidestep whether it was a price guide, one guy when he found out wanted to charge me the price that was in the book (copy of Snatcher that was listed at $5), flipantly I responded, "Sure, then I'd love to buy all your games that are in the book at $1-3 (which he was selling for more like $10)." Silently he rang up Snatcher (for $5).

Many people I talk to don't know about this site. It's one of the best places on the 'net to discuss retro gaming and is probably the place most dedicated to preserving it.

Anywhere there's Genesis love is alright by me. :)

You've hit the nail right on the head, at least for the majority of Halo nuts.

I usually only mention the site to other people I meet that have an apreciation of games and the history of games. I'd think that this site wouldn't hold joe smo gamer's attention for very long. I mean we have a lot of topics here about obscure video games that only niche markets appriciate, or random genesis game topics that only big Genny fans would appreciate. I doubt that the Casual Gamer would really find much of interest here. I mean yes we have say a halo 2 topic, but thats like one topic, not 60 threads on Halo 2. Although we ackknowlege and talk about some of the mainstream games here, I'd same the majority of threads on this site cater to the more hardcore gamer interest.

Heh.. It's had its moments.. There was the guy who said he wanted to cut a little girl.. Jet was a good one, think she threatened to kill Joe at CGE 2k3.. That guy who only made 5 "top 50" posts a day. All the people who complained about the semi-naked women and console pictures...

Nah, I just like to point out Ironies when I see them. And of course, that was one. To be honest, I expected the topic to be locked because it was offpost. But after seeing the big man himself posted in the topic, I must have been mistaken. I always like the site because off-topics got moved instead of locked.... though not always

Yeah, but only the stupid ones get locked.

Heh, I stumbled across that post during a search...Blake Stone I believe his name was. "If I were invisible I'd slit a 9 year old girl's throat!!!@"

Well...interesting.

But yeah, DP's a great community and vastly knowledgeable, I've never had trouble finding an answer to something here. I can't recall recommending the site to anyone but a lot of people I close with now are into collecting retro stuff so maybe I'll bring it up next time.

Hey hellvin, I'm sure you will know the answer to this. I can't seem to get a straight answer from people.

Why did the person shoot the band member (Dimebag) and was the killer killed himself? Sometimes I hear the a policeman killed the killer and sometimes I hear that the killer is going to court.

The killer shot Dimebag because he tought him responsable for Pantera's break up. As for the actual killer himself, he is dead for sure. He was gunned down by an officer moments after the crime.

I tell everybody I like about this site. Honestly, the way I see it is like this:

I really like the DP book. That's actually the main reason why I come here. If the book sucked, regardless of discussion quality, sales opportunities, making contacts, even making some friends, I'd say the hell with this place and post somewhere else.

With that being said, since I like the book a lot, I want DP to sell as many copies as possible to keep making further and greater books. So why I tell everybody that I like (who in turn likes games) about this site. I even show people who aren't really into games the Game Rooms pics. I say if you think I'm bad (I have maybe 200 games tops) look at these guys!
