View Full Version : do you keep "video game secrets"?

The kind of secret I'm referring to is the kind where you keep an obscure or lesser known game on the down low, until you get it, and THEN you can openly share the game with others?

I always do. Never saw the point in saying "My most wanted game right now is so and so" and possibly have new potential competitors.

Games you really want, that aren't so popular or mainstream -- do you keep a sealed lip, or whatever?

And if you wish to talk about any other "video game secrets" then well, be my guest 8-)

I keep my mouth shut about games I don't have not because I want to cut out the competition, but because I don't want to blather on when I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I secretly enjoyed the game True Crime : Streets of LA.

and it really wasn't a GTA III rip-off..... Just an Open Sourced Game....with what I thought was a better storyline. Glitchy? Yes. Short? Yes? Snoop Dogg? Hell Yesh.

But that's what I thought you meant by Video Game secret ;)

It all depends on what it is. If its something thats on the total downlow and like mislabeled on eBay, then I dont mention it. But if its something big and I have an idea as to whom else is interested in it, I make my desires known, and work something out over it with them, as we dont need to bid ourselves up.

I normally don't say anything about potential games. Not so much to keep a secret from compition, but rather to hide the fact that I'm 'buying more games' from my wife. :embarrassed:

Other secrets.. Hmm. Well I have some illegal 'rares' on Ultima Online. :) I have to keep them hidden from the GM's less they get deleted. (Third Chest from the top on the second floor of my house Shhhh!) Further more when it was possible to spawn stretched hides in a 'certain' location by placing chests and coming back 20 minutes later (They spawned in the chest.) I used to sell them as rares for 150k+. But I really thought they where rare, and thought I was the only one who knew about it. I was SOOOO wrong. :eek 2: I still have some, along with a few NO USE tiles..

i have to say, that i usually dont say much until after i get said item.

on a kind of related note; Back before everyone around here had internet access, Nintendo power was our main source of information. One of my buddies and I were subscribed to NP, while another buddy was not. I remember greatly pissing him off, because myself and the other subscribed buddy would never tell him any good cheats. i specifically remember doing this for both turok 1 and 2, we made him turn his head when we put the cheats in, and let him see what they did, but we never did tell him. I'll never forget those moments :P

I don't usually hide anything - I just don't announce it either. Though if I do mention something that I've found, I almost never mention the price I paid, especially if it's something I intend to resell. I like to maximize my profits! ;)

Agreed with all of you. Yeah, it stuns me when people go around asking "anyone have any Turbo Grax magazines they'd like to sell me?"

Geez, I didn't even knew they existed! But yeah, he probably got no help... and how many new potential competitors did he have? Best thing to do is keep shut and keep an eye on eBay.

I would gladly tell people about games that I think are great. What's the point of playing and beating games, if you can't tell people all about it.
I must admit though, that I do keep items I find on ebay (that seem like a great deal) a secret, although I also show other people great auctions that I either don't want because I already have them, or because I'm broke. LOL

Well. You could use reverse psychology.

Me: "Boy, I sure am looking forward to picking up that E.T. for the 2600."
Everybody else: "..."

Or you could take an interest in imports in obscure genres for obscure consoles. While using reverse psychology.

Me: "Boy, I sure wouldn't want to pick up that crappy Batsugun. Yuck."
Everybody else: "Batsuwhat?"

well once ;) when I was playing Tecmo Super Bowl with a friend I failed to mention that if you pick your opponets play you get a super D rush. So I kept picking his play since he didn't know that and had his controller in plain view. I told him eventually. :)

i secretly like halo.

God that was worse than the time that i heard the 'i believe i am pregnant from an ex'.

Is this an offtopic-material thread? i believe it would be better over there.

If I discover a great game I share info with others. "Hey everybody....go and buy The Bard's Tale"!!

Codes? Turok? I must admit that I DID keep the NTHGHTDGDCRTDTRK to myself for quite awhile. I just think that it's such a brilliant code. I'll never forget it. It's ingrained into my memory forever.

I have a beta that I'm not telling anyone about because I don't want it publicised. I know for a fact that there are people looking for the beta that I have. That's probably my only gaming secret.

I keep the fact that I collect colecovison carts under wraps, mostly.

It's a secret to everyone.

"Well. You could use reverse psychology. "

Great Idea, I'll give it a try.

Me: "oh yeah , you GOTTA try Action 52! This game is awesome, it has better graphics than Halo and has the best gameplay EVER !"

Friend (after he went out and bought Action 52 for 50 bucks "WHAT THE HELL DUDE? This the worst F*CKING game every!"

LOL LOL

I don't bother keeping secrets as I am the only person I know who actually collects with any sort of seriousness. Most of my friends play a lot and have ended up with lots of games but nothing that isn't current at the time - and always on 'mainstream' consoles. They are usually happy for me when I get my hands on something I really want - which is cool!

No.

Since the games I want are for the old systems (esp. the ColecoVision), there aren't any games, old or new, that I want that everyone else here doesn't already know about.

And if there ever IS an exception, it would be temporary- it would be some "old dusty unlabeled cartridge or circuit board" from a garage sale that has an unreleased game (such as Spectar or Tunnels and Trolls complete). After trying it out for a few weeks, I'd contact Sean Kelley or newcoleco and ask about if they want it to make copies. There wouldn't be any fun in having such a game "all to myself."
