Yeah, I bought a really nice lot with a bunch of Game Boy and N64 protos. Apparently it's been stolen, which is great because the money I was going to make selling some of those off was going to pay for the plane ticket out there that I couldn't afford in the first place. I'm going to go throw up some more now.
Did anyone here accidentally take home that lot? It was on the third floor, and included a polaroid camera and a vacuum cleaner.

Some nice test / dev units. This is the reason why they make people jump through a lot of hoops to become developers and get this stuff - they don't want to see it end up on eBay and help the h4><0rz.

I spent someone else's money to get out there and grab it. Even if they give me a refund, I'm still completely fucked, as I have no funds to pay him back for the airfare/cab rides/hotel.
This is assuming it really is gone, that's just what someone who was there last week told me.

Geez, easy there, Ed.
I thought it was a valid question. I mean, even on a plane you should get a carry-on and two suitcases worth of "goods" out. I'm thinking you could pack away hundreds of proto carts that way alone.
TheRedEye
12-13-2004, 10:21 AM
Because they wouldn't let me. Some unwritten rule that isn't on any of their web pages or documents or on anything I signed apparently stipulates that yes, while I am completely responsible for my items after they're paid for, I'm also not allowed anywhere near them until the day after the auction. Which would be...when I'm back home.

^^I kind of doubt that, they don't know what this crap is. The lot I bought was titled "GAME ACCESSORIES" and included a bunch of proto carts, a vacuum cleaner, a polaroid camera, some headphones, a box of audio cables...
Something really special could easily be missing, and I wouldn't know. Only ONE of the proto cartridges (out of like, 40) was actually labeled, and it's an unreleased N64 game.

O.K. here's the rundown. 99% of all their protos and equipment is in my hands, and I plan to preserve it as a whole, selling off misc unrelated items like their collection of 300 genesis games, etc.
Given the dev kits have given my company a lot of capacity to expand dev, am very happy.
Microsoft came and repo'd the xbox stuff
Nintendo took back the NR-writer
Given almost all of acclaim legacy is saved, very happy.
Theyhave pushed the clear out date to the 22nd, so everything must go, but there isn't much left. I am asking for the lobby sign.
As to stolen items, I found lots of tampering after hammerfall.
1. His lot entirely gone
2. Them swapping my dev lots for broken dev equipment.
3. Lots tampered and stuff moved, like the now gone NR burner.
4. Pullling my lots and demanding three times more money , after hammerfall.
All within their rights in the disclaimer.
Some of the last to leave with me today (all sold licensed developer only, and not even in auction or part of)

That is ultra cool. I would love to own at least a piece of Acclaim. I'm keeping an eye on your auctions. I'd at lease love one of those Genesis Dev things. Just to put on a shelf with my SNES Deck Tester and Pokémon Snap Printer.
I had a watch on the Dolphin dev kit, but knew I'd never get it. It's already up to $100, so I suspect it'll be way high by the end of the week. I'll start small.
What's the least valuable thing you have? I'll buy it..

Well I have a lot of keepsakes I am bundling with copies of the auction catalog for provenance.
I have over 3000 pieces of game art and focus group art, so if you want apiece of acclaim, and only want to spend $5 I can do that.
A lot of items I am selling are going to charity: children's aids, and a defense fund for soldiers fighting stop-loss and involuntary re-deployment.
Here's the link, please donated if you can.

kidding, I'm still waiting on my total from Assembler, I couldn't get paypal to calculate shipping for me (I expect it to be less than 10.00) and than I will calculate 2.5% of the total including shipping because that's probably what assembler wants....then the mandatory insurance which isn't much. Hopefully I can get out of this spending no more than 50.00

The two univeral rules of auctions are, the minute they say sold the item is yours, and nothing leaves the grounds until its paid for. Every auction I've ever attended has enforced these rules. Auctions that last a while usually run the sold list over to the cashier every 10-20 items, so that you don't have to wait until the end of the auction to pay.
Normally, the auction house is not responsible for watching your items once they're paid for. I watch my stuff like a hawk. I have seen some shitty stuff happen at auctions. I saw a guy buy a working game, and at the end of the auction he went to pick it up and the board was missing. I personally almost had a bad deal because I saw a little kid trying to pull himself up on to a game I had bought by using the joysticks, and when he did the entire control panel flipped forward and it pretty much disconnected every wire inside there. Fortunately a guy helped me reconnect all the wires before I took it home.
But essentially, the auction house is not liable at all for the stuff once it was sold. Although someone did take it, basically it was stolen from TheRedEye, not from the auction company.

Sorry for the late reply. Actually, I was smart about this whole thing, so they are refunding me. Basically, I gave them more than enough in deposits, and I was the winning bidder for the lot, but I never "checked out" and got the remainder of my deposit back. Meaning I never officially purchased the lot, meaning they're refunding me the $400 I spent.

Some racing game, had "America" in the title. I have a picture of the cartridge somewhere. The cartridge was Japanese, and the game was released in Japan, so it might have been an uninteresting proto anyway.
I...might have a lead, actually. My stuff might be headed to Honduras on accident. I have some detective work to do. If I manage to track these things down, I demand to officially be proclaimed Forums Batman.
