Iv'e been in a Kid Icarus mood the last 2 days and have been enjoying it a lot. I never cared about the game as I could never get past the 1st level, but that all changed yesterday 8-) Im actually on the 3rd level atm and can see why this game is highly respected. I wouldnt say the game is the greatest or anything, the games technical limitiatons are obvious, mostly in the graphics department, but I think the game holds up quite well.
I do have a queston though. I have came across several empyty rooms? and some of them have this orange stuff on the ground (sand?) and when you walk on it, some ticking noise happens. Anyone know what thats all about.
Finally what do you rate the game, considering it came out in 1986. I'd rate it about 9.1/10.

Those are supposed to be "hot springs".
I've heard some rumors about the empty rooms being artifacts from the US translation from the Famicom Disk System. That could be wrong, though.
What a lot of those empty rooms are, however, are power-up rooms. When you get enough points you are granted an arrow, which increases your shot power, when you enter these rooms. If you don't have enough points when you reach the room, it will be empty. One of those empty rooms is the very first room in the game; I've never been able to get enough points to make a god appear there. The first one that's occupied I usually see by 1-3.

Congratulations on breaking that baby out! Nothing like enjoying a good old fashioned NES game. My recent Challenge? Q*Bert. I don't know if the game has an ending, but one day I plan to be past the 4rth stage. The annoying part about Q*bert is that it's an arcade game, and I have no way to pop in quarters to continue. So levels 1 and 2 I have completely mastered due to repetitiveness. MWAH!

To actually stay on topic this time around...
Capcom was working on a game called Dead Phoenix for the GameCube, that for some reason or another (Facts are scetchy, and rumours are lies) wont be making it's way to production.
I just mention that because the rumours (ALL LIES I TELL YOU) is that the project was canned in order to justify a name change, and have it released as a Kid Icarus title, Nintendo published. True? Probably not. But the thought leaves me with a tickling in my groin.

Well there was a timne when it was Mario, Kid Icarus, Link, and Metroid.... Even today, when I read your topic on Kid Icarus, My fingers wanted to hols that square controller. It's the memories I suppose. I don't currently have the game, so I can't give a "20 years later" type of review, but the warm memories really do help.

Graham is correct. If you know an "empty room" is comming up you can sit outside and fight for points. Then go in and get your arrow upgrade.
Also you can play the game over again and see a different ending.
So I'm curious, what is everyone elses order of special items. I get them in this order ever time.

Avatard has indeed unlocked the mystery of the empty room. It's been an awful long time, but I believe if you have collected enough hearts a guy will appear and challenge you. Then a bunch of mirrors (at least, I always thought they were mirrors) start falling from the ceiling and thus begins the grueling endurance test. If you live through it, you're giving the choice of weapons.
So I'm curious, what is everyone elses order of special items. I get them in this order ever time.
Wand/fire/bow
Hmm . . what did the three do? Fire would give you fire balls that spun around your arrows. The bow would make your arrows fly across the entire screen, and wand? Man, I can't remember. I think I usually got fire first, tho.[/quote]

The wand has 2 balls that rotate around you and kill stuff. I get it on the first time to stop those falling rock guys from killing me. Then I get the fire so I can hit those stupid frogs that duck arrows. The fire does more damage and rotates around the arrow to hit things that are lower. The bow just kills things across the board so you don't have time to get the hearts =P
