It's been a busy day here at DP HQ.
After digging through a pile of old Sega Visions magazines, I've scanned in over a hundred new Sega Genesis advertisements for the advert gallery:
http://www.videogamearchive.com/dpsightz/adverts/index.htm
These join the existing 100+ for nearly 300 pages of ads in all. It's great stuff to skim through and check out the ones you're interested in. There are still more to come, and these images will be linked to the Genesis games in the database as well over the next few days.
What are your favorite Genny ads? If we're missing any and you can help with the project, please PM me here!

Thanks, Joe!
My fave Genny ads were the "Sega does what Nintendon't" campaign.
Upon checking out the ads, one thing's clear (and that may not be solely the case of Genesis ads): the targeted readership for those ads were people who, like me, were teenagers (or young adults) when those games came out. It has a general air of "radness", using design trends of the era.
In any case, I think it's pretty easy to recognize a videogame ad that dates back to the early-to-mid 90s.

Kinda off-topic, but does anyone remember that two-page nintendo ad where they compare the SNES to the genesis and the SNES won in every comparision? There was a Gamepro where they got a lot of hatemail for running that.

I don't recall that but I guess the "hatemail" didn't mean very much to them. To this day Gamepro runs side-by-side reviews for cross-platform games. It's one of the few places you can actually find that kinda stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The whole subject around that ad was about "Blast Processing".
Nintendo had a great deal of propaganda then.

Good God, no. I do fold them as flat as possible, but I don't tear pages out of magazines, ever.

Try it out with an inside cover ad first. If you've got ads we're missing, I'll be your best friend! I do still have a few more Sega Visions and some Euro Mega-Play mags to get through as well.

I like the early ads (probably the very first ones) that were two page spreads of a dark background with a television playing a game and the launch library stacked next to an operating Genesis. VG&CE 1989-1990 had a few of those- for a while after the '84 crash game publishers weren't prone to show giant screenshots of software in publications. The Genesis sort of changed that trend because all of a sudden the home offerings were arcade comparable.

So I've got a question about Star Odyssey.
It doesn't appear in our database at all, not even as a Mega-Drive game. I was thinking maybe the game's title was changed after the ad and before its release but Sage's Creation didn't do anything quite like this on the Genesis.
So what's the deal? Are we just missing the entry? Does anyone own the game?

There's almost certainly no PAL version - no Sage's Creations games were released over here.
Also, I've got a stack of Euro MD mags from '92-'94ish. I should be getting a new scanner shortly after Xmas, so I can try and get a few of those scanned in aswell.

Definitely! I think that would be pretty cool, in fact. PM me when you're ready to send so I get you credited properly (and can present a few different ways of getting big files to me).
Gracias!
@Anagrama: ditto :)

As of last week, make that "over 250 ads".
I have yet to incorporate the ads from Mexico that suppafly sent over, but I did upload the rest of the scans culled from the Sega Visions magazines. There are a few dups in here that need to be removed but there's lots of great new ads "added" to the gallery here:
http://www.videogamearchive.com/dpsightz/adverts/genesis/
... including another unreleased game, Speed Racer (which ultimately appeared only on the SNES).
Lots of Sega CD ads were added as well. You can find ALL of the ads in our gallery here:
