i think there is a dragonball z game for SNES that is French only

Well, it probably was released in Japan too... however, the DragonBall fever hit France (and Quebec) a lot earlier than in the US (around 1995), so it's not surprising that the SNES DragonBall game was localized in French.

France also got the Mega Drive game Dragonball Z: L'Appel du Destin, which is a localization of the Japanese Dragonball Z: Buyuu Retsuden.

They also had a few translated and localized version of other Mega Drive games - eg. PSG World Class Soccer, which is the French version of Champions World Class Soccer.

Dragon Ball Z 3
Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension
Illusion of Time
Legend of Zelda
Mystic Quest Legend
Sailor Moon
Secret of Evermore
Secret of Mana

Kirby's Adventure
Maniac Mansion
Saint Seiya
Shadowgate
Swords and Serpents

Gameboy
Zelda and Pokemon Games

Megadrive
Dragon Ball Z

Don't forget 'Qui Veut Gagner Des Millions?' (Dreamcast) - the French version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - it's all new questions rather than a translation.

out of my head:

ms, mega cd, 32x, saturn: none
md: dragon ball z (anagrama already mentioned it)
dreamcast: Taxi 2
psx: taxi 2
gamecube: Taxi 3
nes: pretty sure there are some, don't know them though
snes: some DBZ games, Sailor Moon, don't know any others right now, some others are france+benelux(netherlands, luxemburg, belgium) exclusives, like Aero the Acrobat 2
n64: none i know of

Kirby's Adventure wasn't localized for france, it was localized for quebec.

Taxi 2 Le Jeu would have been my obvious answer!

Qui Veut Gagner Des Millions is one which I do believe may also be a France only game - Also DreamCast - But i'm only going by the name here...

I have no idea what it's translation is, but would guess it could be a French version of Who Want's To Be A Millionaire perhaps?

I have also found that some games get released with French packaging - I bought a Tony Hawk II on DreamCast a while ago, but the packaging and manual were all in French. The game, weirdly, was in English though...

Brandt Electronique/To Tec released the "Jopac" games for the Philips G7000/G7400 in France only. Some of the Jopac games were available in other parts of the world under different names, but these weren't:

Chez Maxime
Des Chiffres et des Lettres
Exojet +
Le Trésor Englouti +
Moto-Crash +
Syracuse

Also, many of the Jopac games were available with enhanced G7400 graphics. While these games were available outside of France, they didn't have the enhanced graphics:

Basket/Bowling +
Billard +
Demon Attack +
Flipper +
Western +

These are all rather rare, especially Des Chiffres et des Lettres and Western +. I've never seen either.

I don't think you'd really want to play Des Chiffres et des lettres, unless you want to test your knowledge of French words. :D

It's based on a long-running TV game show (which was still on the air, last time I checked). 2 players compete for the highest score in a 2-part game: one half is "Des lettres" (a Scrabble-like game in which you draw letters and try to make a longer existing word than your opponent; the longer the word, the more points you get) and the second part is "Des chiffres", a mathematical game in which different numbers are drawn as well as a total. You must try to get to the total with the drawn numbers (using additions, substractions, divisions and multiplications as needed) by the end of the timer.

It's a highly intellectual game that's considered highbrow by many, but it can be a lot of fun if you like Scrabble and math. I personally like it, even though I don't watch it very often.

Very interesting! Have you actually seen the Jopac game? I've never seen even a screenshot of it. I'm curious if you "know" it's based on the game show or if you're making an educated guess. (But even if you are, you're probably right... there's a rare European Atari XE cart with the same name, and a popular game show would explain the similarity.)

I've long been looking for more info on the Jopac game, but it's so rare that I'm not entirely convinced it's not vaporware. AFAIK, none of the hardcore European Videopac collectors even own a copy.

I know that there were supposed to be 7800 games released in Europe that weren't really released here. But after the early 1990s, my interest in the system largely faded, and I went back, if you will, to the ColecoVision.

Was there ever a completed 7800 KLAX? I've heard about such a thing for years, like the complete CV Victory (CBS).

No, I haven't seen the Jopac game, but it would be a very easy guess to make, considering how well known that game show is (and it's been on the air since 1972...). And I just found a screenshot of the Amstrad version (which dates from the same time, 1984).

I found a site that has the Jopac ROM. I could check it out tonight and let you know whether that's what it is.

Spirou was also released on the Mega Drive, and while it's most often found in France, it's not a French-exclusive - in Holland it was also released as Robbidoes. Same story with most Smurfs games - easier to find in France than elsewhere, but not France-only.

Nope. It's got a French title (Les Schtroumpfs Autour du Monde) but all copies found so far have been in the Czech Republic.
Chances are, they were dumped there since there wasn't really a European SMS market by 1996.

It's the rarest European SMS game, and there hasn't been one on eBay in around 2 years. I know of 3 other copies sold privately in the last year or so for £135, £100 (now mine ! :D) and an amazing $550.

And as I said earlier - you won't find it in France, all known copies were unearthed in the Czech Republic.

Good luck! ;) Most circulating copies seem to have been found between about 1999-2002, but I've heard of a couple of people looking there since and coming up enpty handed.
There's got to be more of them somewhere though - knowing my luck someone will uncover a warehouse full now that I've paid £100 for one :)

Thanks :) I'm not holding out great hopes. I had my little sister looking out for Nightmare Circus for the whole year that she was in Brazil. Nada.

But it's gotta be worth a try at least! And I expect that I will be visiting Czech Republic again at least once before she leaves .. too good an opportunity to miss, to be able to have a holiday in Prague and pay no accomodation .. it's an amazing city.

There are likely to be very few in Czech, too. A legend tells about a collector (not me) who bought and carried a couple to a cold northern country.

Mr Heinonen, per chance? ;)
Most of the circulating ones stem from him (something like 15-20 copies), but there's at least 2 or 3 other collectors who have found small stashes of them.

I just got Tecmo Cup Football Game PAL copy. It's Spanish. I've not tested it yet, but looking in the manual it seems the in-game text is Spanish.

Not French though. Most have been mentioned I think (well if there's a NES cart with HOL as the country code, then a French version exists)

There was some odd fantasy Napoleon RTS released for the GBA that only came out in France, it seems. A translation project is ongoing.

Yes, I have that one too. It´s one of only three games with Spanish text (on Nes) without counting Smurfs and Asterix, along with Robin Hood and Maniac Mansion
