I believe Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater had me at hello. I anticipated the title, I knew going in that it would impress me, but I never expected the story to be so enticing. Hideo Kojima consistently pushes the boundary of game storytelling. Which game title released this year won your heart over?

Edit: There is no need to take in account actual GOTY awards like magazines and televised shows such as Gphoria and Spike TV, this is strictly your own. The game that totally blew you away and left a mark this year.

GTA San Andreas. It was simply the most fun.

Shadow Hearts Covenant, but sadly its not really a contender.

MGS 3 is damn fun briliant game I'll vote for that one.

ah yes, Shadow Hearts: Covenant. The title deserves recognition, but sadly, it will not. Perhaps a Playstation2 game that will be sought after in the future?

Right now I'd have to say Half-Life 2, but Pirates! is great too, even if it has no chance of winning any GOTY awards.

Halo 2 for Best Xbox Game

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

To be fair I haven't played any of the others mentioned so far. And I haven't bought any new release XBox titles this year (though I may get KoToR II). Same for Cube...only Tales of Symphonia.

I'd say Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne could be a contender for GOTY for PS2 tho....

GOTY?

Come on now, too easy of a question. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Followed by HL2.

Feel The Magic: XY/XX. It's so great. I can't wait till the sequel. Midway Arcade Treasures 2 was pretty cool. A 99% perfect port of MKII makes RCM a happy boy.

THE ONE, THE ONLY- RCM

San Andreas and Halo 2 are what will get Game of the Year awards.

MGS3 is what deserves it.

Metal Gear Solid 3 looked amazing and makes me actually want to finally play the metal gear series but I never will....just not enough time.

Pinball Hall Of Fame (Xbox)

Hey, it was my favorite game of the year. GTA and Halo 2 really didn't do anything for me. I'll give Katamara an honorable mention though.

GTA: San Andreas

Close runner-up: Sid Meier's Pirates!

Shouldn't there be a topic to vote for games shortly here at Dp?

I'm impressed. If this question were posed on any other forum the answers would be Halo2 Halo2 Halo2 Halo2 ad nauseum. LOL

GOTY....hmmm. So many good games, so many that won't be nominated. Sometimes GOTY is based on which title was the most "buttoned up" or revolutionary. Unfortunately in this day and age GOTY is usually based on sales figures.

The most revolutionary game would be Katamari Damacy....for bringing simplicity back to the table.

As far as sheer scope, Final Fantasy XI was a huge undertaking for a console game. It was hard to keep playing after 4 or 5 months....but it WAS cool at first.

One game that hooked me this year was The Lord Of The Rings The Third Age. It may not have had super high graphic polish, but it was fun to play and one that I played straight through without playing anything else inbetween. It had an unusually high immersion factor to it. I felt as if I was there, travelling this great distance to get to the Eye.

As far as what will most likely happen outside of DP? GTA San Andreas will get GOTY. Halo2 will get 1st runner up. Any other XboX game will get 2nd runner up, since the XboX seems to be on a sales tear with the general public these days.

I am delighted that most chose games that truly deserve recognition, whereas, games like Madden 2005 and the new cookie cutter Tom Clancy game would have been chosen in any other game forum.

PlayStation 2: MGS 3, GTA San Andreas, Star Ocean 3
XBox: Halo 2, Fable, KOTOR II
GameCube: Metroid Prime 2, Baten Kaitos, Paper Mario 2
Game Boy Advance: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Metroid Zero
PC: Half Life 2, Pirates, Doom 3
Nintendo DS: Feel the Magic

I refuse to name a single GOTY, thus the games I enjoyed the most this year are:

Burnout 3, GTA: SA, Katamari Damacy, Crimson Skies and Sacred.

Pedro Lambrini

I'm going for Bruce Lee on the GBA followed by Metroid Prime 2 on the 'Cube.

Biggest disappointment goes to Halo 2 (what a shite ending!)

I think GTA San Andreas although i liked Vice City more, but overall it was a great game.

I must say that i still have to play Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, but i don't think those two can pass GTA.

Of the new games I've played it's a toss up between Katamari and San Andreas for me.

I'm gonna have to throw in another vote for Snake Eater. Damn I loves me some Metal Gear. A very close second would be Metroid: Zero Mission though. If the game would have been harder, I think it would have been hands-down the best Metroid game ever. The great graphics, sound and control of Metroid 3 and up, combined with the open-endedness of M1 taken to the Nth degree, plus some of the most intricate, flat-out fantastic level design I've ever seen = joygasm. :-P

San andreas even though I hated it for the first hour being forced to get used to the analog I always used the D-pad now playing Gta 3 yesterday I find myself not using the D-pad.

Didn't even play san andreas till a week or so after Halo 2 came out.

Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots. A great expansion to my second favourite RTS of all time. Or Thief 3. That game's EXCELLENT.

Ooh, tough call on this one... I may have to elect Gradius V as #1, with Katamari Damacy and Halo 2 as respective runners-up. There are still quite a few games in 2004 that I have to play, though...

Another vote for san andreas! I don't have it but what can be better then it? (sorry but I just do not find halo fun at all, I like goldeneye and perfect dark for n64 but halo is just so boring)

Tales of Symphonia.
I haven't bought too many games this year though.
