OKay, what's the rules in regards to using an Action Replay and/or Gameshark on an orignal unmodded Playstation 1 to play Imports or *ahem* 'backups'? Which versions work and all that? Has this question been asked before here?

Apologies in advance if this is lockbait. I Don't want to screw around with the rules. :embarrassed:

im not 1000% sure as I dont have a GS or AR myself. But if what I remember correctly is that it depends on the model PS that you have. The earliest you can use the lid trick. Somewhat later ones you can use the Parallel I/O port and the mechanism plugged into it, and the later ones needed the cd to do the trick.

Here are some notes I've collected on the subject.

Generally, you're odds are pretty good, but older PS1 models often need some voltage adjustments in order to read CDRs, and that can be a huge pain in the ass without the proper tools.

OKay. My local Gamecrazy's holding both a disc-only Action Replay and a disc-only Gameshark. Looks like it's time to get out the paper clips!

Or you could just buy a PS-X-Change disc. Ver.2 has Gameshark-like feature included, except you have to type in the code everytime you want to use codes. It'll allow you to play imports, works like a boot disc.

how to play backups on your playstation:

what youll need: CD burner, blank CDR, boot disk, flat plastic blockbuster card

burn iso on cdr using cd burner, throw it out, sell boot disk on ebay, use flat plastic blockbuster card to rent game of choice.

I'd say just get a decent Game Shark disc. It's got much more features, and is usually easier to obtain.
