Looking at something like this:

My question is, how do they compare to the official (expensive) vga adaptors?

I've had a 3rd party VGA-DC for almost 3 years now... not the same one as in the auction, but mine works great. Madness Gameware made mine. I also got a universal VGA box. It takes input from RCA (R/Y/W Plugs). It was about $60 they also make one that takes coaxial (RF) and RCA input for around $80. I'm now wishing I had sprung for the more expensive unit to play my O2. Would also give me a way to connect a toploader NES.

I had a naki VGA addapter for a day and it didn't work right, mind you I bout it used. But I have a new one called Blaze and it wrks great! You can switch from PC to TV, has two audio jacks plus its very small.

That's not the same one I've got but I've been using third-party DC VGA box for a couple of years now. It works 100% with games that have the "VGA Supported" on the back of the game. Others, mileage may vary. No complaints!

I've got a Naki - same one in the picture. I've been using it for several years w/no problems. Keep in mind, though, that it doesn't have passthrough, which is certainly a nice feature.
