1) Name an uncommon NES game that you really enjoy
2) State what you like about it
I guess I will go first....

I think we've about worn poor Metal Storm right out! :P
Can you do that for Samus? I tried but failed (and I can practically hear the song in my head, something's terribly wrong here! LOL )
Well.
My vote goes to Fire 'n Ice.
The Japanese version is better than the U.S. one, as it lets you "rewind" one move at a time. Awesome. Much slower paced than the original Solomon no Kagi, and to my way of thinking more strategic, too.

Nightshade......Funny game
Damn right that game IS hilarious. My friend and I used to get a kick out of seeing the face on the picture frame in the second room changing expressions when we go in and out.

Pinball Quest
how many pinball RPGs are there?

Gemfire
I liked it because it was similar to the usual Koei games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Gengis Khan, but it had more clear and simplified gameplay. I could actually finish a campaign in a day. I would play it for like 10 hours straight.

Ultimate Stuntman
Multi-genre game that gets in some driving, platforming, puzzle solving, and shooting action. There’s even a segment reminiscent of Crazy Climber! To top it off, the graphics could pass on a 16-bit system.

Palamedes
Fun puzzler that's sort of like Tetris meets Puzzle Bobble, but with dice.
Ruudos

Rad Gravity
A fun and unique action game with the greatest video game character in history. Cool boss fights, and quite challenging
Sotenga

Journey to Silius
Great graphics, even greater music, very challenging, and if Sunsoft had their way, it would have been a kickass licensed title based off of The Terminator.
Crush Crawfish

Monster Party
Awesome platformer with insanely unique bosses, including a giant fried shrimp and a legless punk rocker.

My moms All Time Favorite NES game. When she was a stay-at-home Mom, we kids would sit and watch her play for hours and hours :D She could get much further than I can...
One of my all time favorite games is Bee 52!! Camarica games are great :-P Its just such a quirky little SHMUP that plays much differently than traditional games within the Genre+ Bee 52 is the cutest little death machine :D

going the camerica route eh Joe?
me too :)
Stunt Kids. BMX racing was never so much fun, esp. on the NES.
It appears that Camerica had their head screwed on right. The majority of their games are actually quite fun. Ultimate Stuntman is # 2 on my list.

Speaking of Camerica, they always made terrible game music with a terrible PCM, that shit will have your ears ringing.

Thanks guys! I've downloaded most of your suggestions, and will try them out soon. Ill add a few more I just thought of, there not too uncommon but what the hell.
- Batman (Dark and moody platformer, really tough as well)
- Tom and Jerry (Really fun platformer where you play as Tom)
- Felix the Cat (Fairly easy but a very fun game)
- Digger T Rock (Unique Puzzle game)
- Star Tropics
Dr. Morbis

Thunder & Lightning
A Breakout clone akin to Arkanoid, but slower paced and much more fun. Great powerups, awesome play control (hold A or B to go faster so you don't need a vaus-type controller), and it even has 2 player simultaneous co-op play.

The Battle of Olympus is a great one that I never hear anyone talking about. The game itself is a lot like the side-scrolling sequences of Zelda II, and it's an action-RPG in the same vein as Zelda II. However, it's set in Greece, and has plenty of originality packed into some remarkably solid gameplay.
This is actually a Broderbund release in the US, developed by Imagineer. Broderbund brought over a lot of interesting titles from Japan that many people overlooked, but most of them were really interesting, like the Guardian Legend (Compile classic) and Legacy of the Wizard (the first game in Falcom's Dragonslayer series). I feel like they were kind of the Working Designs of the NES-era, so really any Broderbund game is an obscure one that's probably worth checking out! ;)

Totally Rad - fun side scroller with good graphics and awesome boss battles.
Crystalis - my all time favorite game. Think of Zelda, with RPG elements and way more weapons, and a way more in depth game.

Built to Win, The Gran Turismo of the NES. You travel around a city and race to earn money and upgrade your ride, several different parts and different types of cars.
A Boy and his Blob, kinda surprised no one metioned this one. One of the greatest Games of all time.
Fester's Quest, one of the best action adventure games on the NES.

Galaxy 5000
Once you set the controls to your liking a very fun space racing game. In this game you can upgrade your ship as you go, reminds me of RC PRO-AM in space but i like this one better. :rocker:

Ehm, you play as Jerry. That's the mouse yes.
I think you play as Tom in the SMS Tom & Jerry game?

You'll never guess this this one.
Super Donkey Kong 2. Yes, it's a pirate, but it's one of the best around. The graphics are suprisingly accurate and some of the best I've seen on an NES. I also heard of the NES version of Super Mario World being a great game (for a pirate. That's not saying much, but you don't know bad games until you've played Street Fighter 12 Peoples or any variation of it) but I can't find anywhere to download it.

Mr. Gimmick: One of the best side scrollers/platformers available for any system. Extremely rare, but emulate it.

I've actually seen pictures of the Super Mario World pirate cart for Famicom. Supposedly it's the entire SNES version, and the game definately has really nice graphics for an NES game. I remember someone selling they on ebay around 2 years ago for $60 buy it now.

Super Mario World (NES) was going to have all the levels, but at some point the development team ran out of time. Incomplete forms of the levels can be played if you hack it. This site can tell you all about it:

This guy also does a lot of really cool stuff. He's porting the entire city of Portland from GTA III to the NES. Link here:
