Here is the same article - but from espn.com - slightly different point of view :)

I don't buy regular sports titles, sometimes I get friends hand-me-downs from people who get the latest madden or ncaa title each year. But I will not be doing any buisness with EA - again - ever...... Between this, and the recent stories about how poorly they treat thier programmers...... EA Sports blows billy goat gruff.

Zach, please don't do this to yet another thread. I am not "eager to argue" with you. I just stated my reasons for my belief that this isn't yet over.
Dude, you win. NASCAR set the precedent. This will fly. Let's all go buy Madden 2005 to celebrate.
Jaysen, when you enter a thread in which I'm participating, you're always eager to argue with me. The mods have long since recognized this behavior, and even called you on it in the past.
And if, by "doing this," you mean pointing out the flaws in your opinions and your lack of industry knowledge (Microsoft's deal with EA, THUG 2's being an Activision franchise, EA's corporate website, et cetera), I'm guilty.

This really sucks. You know someone's gonna sue over this.
"We believe that the decisions of the National Football League and Players Inc. to grant an exclusive license for videogames do a tremendous disservice to the consumers and sports fans whose funds ultimately support the NFL, by limiting their choices, curbing creativity and almost certainly leading to higher game prices," Nebb said.
Best line ever.

btw, all the games currently in production based on the nfl license will still be released,if the license was already acquired, for instance, if sega already bought the license to make nfl 2k6, itll still come out.

I'm in complete agreement with what kevin just said in his thread. :D
I never said the companies would be SUCCESFULL with a lawsuit. I said they would TRY a lawsuit. And they WILL. I'll happily enter a bet.....oh wait, I'm not working right now. Well, I WOULD bet on that. ;)

Who's gonna sue? Did you read all the earlier posts? :) EA can't realistically sue Sega because it has exclusive rights to the ESPN brand. Sega can't realistically sue EA because it has exclusive rights to the NFL brand. EA hasn't taken away Sega's right to make football games. It just can't make the NFL brand of football.

Which you argue is the same thing as not being able to make a football game. LOL
Not sure I totally agree with you, but it's a good point.

If you ever get a job, I'll take you up on that bet. :) No lawsuits are gonna come of this. Sega has done many stupid things in the past, but suing EA and the NFL would top them all.

Zach, you're a class act, my man. But you already knew that. You should school me on "video game industry knowledge." I'm not in the video game industry. I'm a CPA...
By the way, why don't you go re-read the thread and see who asked me to elaborate on my opinion.
Don't worry guys, I won't let Meston bring yet another thread down. I know he'll reply to this, and that will be that. I won't reply to him again.

Microsoft was already out of the NFL biz, in exchange for EA's support of support Xbox Live.
Midway was pretty much out of the NFL biz after the disaster of NFL Blitz Pro, embarked upon because the NFL was frowning upon Blitz's violent gameplay.
989 was out of the NFL biz because it totally botched GameDay's move from the PS1 to the PS2. it never recovered from the first PS2 version.
So, really, this deal only screwed Sega, which was the only company making a Madden-beater.
So, none of these companies were thinking ahead to another generation? Who's to say what will....err.... could have happened if this hadn't played out this way?

Microsoft wasn't going to relaunch Fever. It was a blood sacrifice in exchange for EA's Live support.
Midway wasn't going to relaunch Blitz. The NFL was uncomfortable with it, and EA's NFL Street had usurped it. Midway is focusing on SlugFest, which forced EA to reboot its baseball franchise.
Sony might have tried to reboot GameDay on the PS3, but it probably would've let EA ship a mind-blowing launch Madden instead.

No.
Zach, Jaysen, Postulio... take your private battles elsewhere and please don't ruin any more of this forum's threads. There are people who actually want to discuss the issue without the catfighting that seems to go on when particular individuals get involved.
