I swear, SpikeTV makes me wish it was still wallowing in the world of country as TNN.
And if you had told me that I'd be saying that even five years ago, I'd have laughed at you.

I'm hoping the ratings are good in hopes of improved game award shows in the future. It can only get better. Right?

There was an awards show? I just caught the few rap artists (did I just say artist?) and was wondering.. hey, where's the games? I didn't make it past that, I just switched over to G4TechTV.

That's rap artistes to you, mister.
Next year it should be hosted by the Cheat and Burchuss, and feature a demonstration of Katamari Damacy live action role playing. :P

This is horrible. It's like watching a high school production or something. So many missed lines, missed cues, flubbed lines...

Least Katamari Damacy got a few nods...and they did some awful Sean Connery voiceover.
If I wanted to watch something this ghetto, I'd have turned on MTV instead.

I don't understand how this show is for anybody. I watched it for 30 seconds, and it seems worse than any other awards show I've ever watched. I have to ask: is this entirely necessary? I mean, there aren't even any 'stars' from the vidgame industry that could present or anything.... *shurg*

Maybe it'll get good ratings and G4 will decide it would be a good idea to host a Retro Games Awards show. Get a bunch of hosts to dress up in vintage era clothing and talk about how hot the VCS, Intelly, and Coleco are. I'd watch that.

Amazingly, GTA: San Andreas won Game of the Year & Samuel L. Jackson was right there to accept the award & thank everyone for supporting - and I quote - "Grand Theft Auto 2."

I didn't catch him say "Grand Theft Auto 2." He won another award and knew he was accepting for his performance for San Andreas.

Same here. Everytime I switched to it there was another rapper performing...It was so boring.
Someone needs to make a real awards show that the actual game makers get to accept the awards.
This was like watching a high school production of the MTV Music Awards.

Oh, they do-they pulled out the VCS Space Invaders as a sign of early game music on the game music episode of Icons, right before skipping ahead to Earthworm Jim to kiss Tommy Tallarico's ass by hailing the game as the first true example of video game music.
Of course, four words can refute that: Koji Kondo. Hip Tanaka. (And that's just for starters.)

BTW, I watched this thing with a roomfull of gamers more excited to see Motley Crue than anything else. Even that sucked.
I have to say I'm really impressed that no one yet has started cryassing here about such and such game should have won this or whatever. Anyone who watched even five minutes of this sub cable access excuse for an awards show should know damn well not to get worked up at all over anything they saw.
On the plus side, I'm impressed anyone remembered their lines or cues because there had to have been some good wacky tabaccky going around backstage. Shit, I think the only person on the stage that wasn't obviously stoned off their ass was the guy who came up to accept the award for Madden. Oh and Tara Reid managed to keep her Frankenboobies under wraps. That's always a plus.

The results of that show are laughable.
Just, ridiculous.
First of all, Half-Life 2 is GAME of the YEAR. It's absolutely amazing, you can't contest it. And if HL-2 loses, I'm sorry, GTA:SA shouldn't win. But, it is a mainstream show, and a mainstream contest. Therefore, ALL mainstream stuff wins. Fun.
And where the hell is my Metal Gear Solid 3?!

Interesting interview with Marc Edwards from spike. I found this most interesting:
GS: You also wanted to talk about the advisory board, which is very different this year.
ME: Well, we have enlisted an advisory board to help us. First, to determine and identify which categories are the most important categories for our viewers. And second, to help us to identify which games were the games that were most likely to be the games for nomination, and ultimately for voting by the fans as their favorite games, within each category. The nomination board was comprised of industry experts from the development world, from the publishing world, and from all genres of the video game industry, so we wanted to make sure that there was real buy in on the part of the industry overall in terms of what we were doing, and in terms of the categories and the games that were nominated. [Board members include Geoff Keighley of Entertainment Weekly and Business 2.0, freelance writer Noah Robischon, Michel Marriot of the New York Times, and Chris Morris of CNN/Money.]
That advisory board is such shit. Geoff Keighley is such a "safe" watered down videogame journalist. He has no balls whatsoever. If I was on that advisory board I would be so embarrassed. The others listed are marginal at best and have next to no passion for gaming. Fuckin assholes!

Thanks to my DVR I reduced 2 hours of vomit to 15 minutes of nausea. Only time I have ever been tempted to watch the commercials and fast forward through the feature.

Call me nuts, but.....
I did'nt watch the show but after reading the awards.....
I AGREE with most of the choices! :eek 2:
GTA: SA WILL get Best of the Year by most people and sites. Half Life 2 is the best PC game, Madden was the best sports game, and Metroid: Zero Mission is a very good handheld game. And others I agree with also.
I will agree MGS 3 and Star Ocean 3 should be up there somewhere, though.

I disagree. It makes teenagers look like complete idiots, since it's obvious that the target audience was teenagers...
I caught bits of it but spent most of my time watching a South Park episode as soon as I saw two characters who had asses where there heads were supposed to be (and *it* most definitely *didn't* disappoint)...

Having not watched the show at all, and just seeing the results and nominations, the show must have been absolute leagues ahead of lasts years atrocity. The results aren't bad. They really arent, and if they could put together a respectable production and actually attract anyone from the game business to partake it would be far better.
Oh, and the "Best graphics" category is shit. A PC game will always win that, hands down. Especially 4 years into a generation, no way can the consoles compete with current PC technology.
I disagree. It makes teenagers look like complete idiots, since it's obvious that the target audience was teenagers...
According to the article I linked to earlier in this thread the desired target is 12 to 34.

I only "caught" (more like acciddently flip thru and stopped at) the last 10 minutes of the show. Seeing Motley Crew's 10 minute reunion special was actually quite interesting until they kicked into Dr Feelgood (personally, a very good rockin song) Then the lip sync machine went haywire and mic's starting getting randomly shut off. LOL Can't image what happened during the rest of the show. I think I saw more than enough.

They showed it already? Now I'll have to get the torrent, no matter how dumb it was. :/
Where did they get the "best game based on a movie" category? I thought games based on movies were nigh unplayable bugfests that were rushed out the door for the sole purpose of making a quick buck. :hmm:
