The price of sealed versions of this particular game are becoming ridiculous... The only thing is - Is there a way to tell if the game is originally sealed, or perhaps been resealed by some seedy guy who works at GameStation and wants to sell his Pre-Owned copy off for heaps of cash?

Unlimited Saga came with thick cellopahne with the tear strip and everything, but other games don't tend to come like this... Silent Hill II and Onimusha III Special Edition spring to mind...

Is it just a risk you take with a game like this though? I know people are notorious for resealing games in this manner, and you can often find American GameBoy games or PSone games which have been resealed using shrinkwrap...

Hi,

It should have a vertical seam on the back and if you look at the edges there should be a couple of places where the plastic overlaps slightly, I've never seen re-wrapped games achieve that "wrinkle" look. Also there should be little wholes at regular intervals across the plastic.

Hope that helps...it has been years seen I've seen one so my memory is fuzzy.

What's different about the Ico special edition content wise? Just curious, because I only recently discovered the NTSC version of this game.

Some of the models are redone to look better, some of the puzzles have alternate solutions, the ending is extended, there's a new weapon, two-player mode...

In the UK there are two versions - The standard version and a limited edition version which comes in nice folding out cardboard case and has limited edition postcards in it...

Boy, that special edition sounds MUCH better. Any chance of a release of that version in North America?

Seeing as how the game's three years old and they still haven't said anything about it, I'm guessing no. :P

You're lucky enough to find ANY copy of Ico here in the UK, let alone the special edition version (which I own :D ). It's not an easy one to track down. Least we got it... plenty people here want Katamari and are forced to mod or slide tool their PS2s to play it.

eBay, eBay, eBay...

I'm on about one's I see on eBay all the time - There have been a lot of alledgedly sealed ones recently, but what I wanted to know was how I could be 100% sure that they are still sealed from when they were released...

It wouldn't be too hard for someone to simply shrinkwrap it up again... Normal games it's easy to tell because you have the official tear strip, but these type of games (One's which come in cardboard style box's and are usually shrinkwrapped as opposed to cellophane wrapped) it is harder to tell...

Now if the game had an official sticker on the outside, then that would prove it's authenticity...

I wish I could play it, but I'd have to either get a PAL console or mod one of my own.

eBay yes I know... I meant at a reasonable price most of the time :P

I paid £20 for mine btw... about the most I would. About the most I know a lot of people will for what is now a three year old game.

It's a good game, and i'd probably pay about £50 for a proper sealed one just for collecting purposes.

I bought a sealed PAL Silent Hill II about a month ago, and there's no way I can confirm that the game is actually originally sealed or resealed... I bagged it for a tenner though, so I thought I may as well investigate...

It seems to be very well kept if it is indeed a brand new game - the corners are exceptionally sharp, and there is no visable damage to the box underneath the plastic shrinkwrap...

The guy even told me that he bought it from a wholesaler - So that is what makes me wonder about it's authenticity... Wholesalers are well known for resealing things, so there's no telling whether the plastic is original...

I suppose Konami may know (Perhaps) but would they really care enough to help me confirm it's authenticity? I know Sega have been good to me regarding my DreamCast collecting (I would reccommend their customer service highly!) but other companies tend to niot give a damn if you ask them a serious question (Ie, Capcom don't give you squat; and Nintendo's staff are exceptionally rude - Almost as if they are all 15 year olds!!!)
