Yeah, there's a battery in there. There's also a battery in a Sega CD, Saturn, etc.

All the battery does is save your games. If you leave the console unplugged for over a month or so, you will lose all your data (it has happened to me numerous times.) But if you plug it back in, it always recharges and regains function without a problem.

So, it's really no big deal unless you leave it unplugged when you're towards the end of Y's or something. The system won't magically stop working one day. Now, if you hit your TurboDuo with a hammer... LOL

Actually, it will magicaly stop working some day, or at least the CD part will. All CD/DVD drives will eventaully fail, it's just a matter of time/use. Moving parts are bad.

You beat me to it, ddockery. This is a problem that picks at my brain sometimes. I mean, what the hell are we going to do when our Dreamcast GD-Roms are all dead? Stupid systems with moving parts (in Homer voice)!

Well, that's true; hopefully when it happens it will be rapairable. I was just implying that there won't be a situation where it won't turn on anymore or anything like that.

Unfortunately, the manufacturers don't seem to care about these problems with moving parts, so I doubt we'll ever see a serious return to solid state technology. :/
